Absolutely superb. Great game. We fully deserved it. Gerrard was awful. Sterling didn't do anything. We ran the midfield for the majority of the game. Delph and TC tied for man of the match for me.
Benteke was excellent. Westwood came back and had a very good game indeed.
Richardson played well. He bombed forward all game and look fitter than he has done in years. Bacuna was also good. He kept Raheem quiet.
Zogbia was lively.
Grealish played like he thought he was Zenedine Zidane. Lots of poise, composure and quality.
Okore was horrendous for 10 minutes when he first came on, but was excellent after that.
Vlaar was concrete.
Shay was solid all game.
As for Sherwood. The manager no one believes has a tactical thought in his body, out-thought Mr sophisticated, Brendan Rodgers. He got the better of him big time. Top notch from Sherwood. If Timmy's proved anything in the last two games, it's that he can do gameplans. He can do tactics when required. There is a method there.

The way we've played in the last two games suggest to me that a 2-3 good signings in the summer and we should be competing the likes of Spurs and Liverpool and not scrapping it out in the bottom 6 all year.

Grealish impressed the hell out of me today. There were times it looked like he was running into trouble or out of room, but he still managed to keep the ball, or give it off to a team mate.

We came back from a goal down to win today. Fan-bloody-tastic. That took some balls.
Also massive credit to Richardson. He took some stick in (I think) the QPR game where he was stationary while their player scored. He cleared on from Gerrard off the line today. Fair play to you mate, well bloody done.

I hope so. We've gone into the last two games as underdogs but ended up deservedly beating Spurs and Liverpool, despite the media seemingly willing us to get beaten.
We've got the talent to compete much higher up the league than we are. We're a few signings away from being back where we belong I think. I would hope TC sees that, and more so that Benteke can see we've got potential to have a good season next year.

Same bunch of players. It's an amazing case study in football / sports management. The team are totally unrecognisable from the Lambert era. The view from the sofa was hard work I can tell you.
After a great start I thought the wind went out of our sails when Baker was injured and the goal seemed to confirm that but credit to the players, they had other ideas.
Some of the football played was the best I have seen since the Big Ron days, Jack was tremendous and while Richardson looked shaky occasionally, he played a vital part. How wonderful to see a team without fear, playing with invention and delight, pleased to be there rather than cowed by the occasion.
I missed being there but am hopeful of a ticket for the Final.
And to Football Focus and BT Sport, a bit of editorial balance wouldn't go amiss over the next 6 weeks. Now you have no Stevie G to train the camera on constantly, you have little excuse.

The thing that fills me up right now is not just that we have got through to the FA Cup Final, but that we have got through to the FA Cup final against the odds, and in games against the Albion (in the second half, anyway) and against Liverpool in which we have shown the finest traditions of our wonderful club.

Sherwood is proving more every day that his achievements to date are more by design than luck. Everyone needs a bit of the latter but you don't just fluke it at the top level. You need to be smart and he outsmarted Rodgers, a supposed thinker at every turn today. Rodgers must have switched things up 3 or 4 times and it led pretty much nothing in return. We were very impressive everywhere today.

N'Zogbia won two key headers in the middle of the park against Gerrard to help set up the winner for Delph. Small things sometimes get missed. Richardson's header off the line too. Both magic!!

Sherwood at the moment is exactly what I thought Lambert was going to be when he turned up from Norwich as there he regularly changed the first 11 and formations with great success yet as soon as he turned up here he quickly morphed into another McLeish in terms of style and team line ups.
I think it's safe to say no chance will Sherwood go that way, it will be win or bust for all his time here.

I've let it sink in now, we were absolutely great. Back four were in complete control, Cleverley had his best game, Delph was outstanding, Nzogbia played with purpose, Grealish played like an old veteran, had all the time in the world on the ball, they were running scared of Benteke. Reminded me of the 94 league cup final, played with a game plan, and completely out played the so called superior team.

Just got back to my hotel. Quite simply, that was an amazing day out, from start to finish. What a superb weekend from start to finish as well. We were the better side for most of the game today, and deservedly won. The mosaic looked amazing, I'll try to post a picture in a second.

in all this shame about Nathan Baker. Gets his chance and falls victim to yet another injury. Looks like he is out for the season now, so Okore and Vlaar (hopefully) the rest of the way. Also hoping Senderos is close to returning.

So proud of the team today. I watched the game in a pub in Moseley with some friends who live there- I expected the crowd to be even between us and Brummie reds, with a few noses looking for trouble. Not a bit of it- a few cheers when they took the lead, pandemonium when we equalised and hugs and handshakes all round at the final whistle. We cheered their skied shots and Richardson's clearance like they were goals for us, and even a nose I know who I bumped into said it was fair play, the better team won.
So pleased for Grealish, I'd have given him the MotM award if it were down to me, but we were immense today, especially in the middle of the park. I was worried when all their early attacks came on the left as I thought they were trying to exploit Bacuna at the back, but we stood firm and battled to a deserved win.
Glad to have rained on the Gerrard parade, delighted that we've exorcised the ghost of 1996, ecstatic that we ended a dismal run of cup results against Liverpool (I think this is the first time we've knocked them out of a cup in the 22 years I've supported Villa, correct me if I'm wrong) and thrilled to bits at a sensational performance that has seen us earn our shot at the FA Cup.
Well done Villa, let's go one better and bring home the Cup!

Watched the game in The Horse & Farrier, Norden, Rochdale with my son and his girlfriend along with a roomful of Scouser fans. After the City v West Ham game finished being shown on another screen, we were joined by various fans of the Manchester blue & red persuasion. It's fair to say that by the end, mates of mine of the Manchester teams joined us to cheer us to the end. The Scousers were very complimentary at the end. BUT - We did it, best performance at Wembley since 1957, and yes I can remember that game, I have seen. Okore settled down after a very shaky start. I cannot fault one player, they all gave their utmost but Delph was a colossus. The passing game that we are playing now suits the players we have. Without any doubt, this was Cleverley's best game for us. Wembley here we come !!
P.S We have 2 bottles of red wine to enjoy with our dinner. Safe journey to all the great Villa supporters there today.

Just watched the BBC highlights back. Jonathon Pearce, on the final whistle said as Westwood won the ball, it is fitting the game ends with the exceptional Westwood winning it again. He was right. Cleverley and Westwood with their continuous work allowed the ones in front to play. Thought as a midfield unit it was one of the best I have seen from Villa in a long time.

I didn have a great feeling about today going into it, but we dominated them. The response after conceding against the run of play was excellent, with a very well worked goal.
Grealish looked mature beyond his years, Delph and Cleverley excellent, while Benteke bullied them.
Great noise from our lot too.

Just watched the BBC highlights back. Jonathon Pearce, on the final whistle said as Westwood won the ball, it is fitting the game ends with the exceptional Westwood winning it again. He was right. Cleverley and Westwood with their continuous work allowed the ones in front to play. Thought as a midfield unit it was one of the best I have seen from Villa in a long time.
Unusual from Pearce.
I would have expected him to refer to Ash as Tim Westwood.

Indeed. For all the praise being piled on Delph, he didn't get into the match for the first 35 minutes but when he did, what a player! All three of our midfield played well today. All deserve massive praise.

Just got home. What a day. Reports from relatives - BT Sport pundits said we were the better team, mom, in her 90s, said Radio WM said the same. Anyone listen on R5? Assuming Alan Green commentated, did he acknowledge we were the better team? I thought Gerrard was pretty anonymous on the whole, and while I'd struggle to explain the offside rule, Liverpool didn't look remotely special to me.

I must say Rodgers has had 3-4 big chances to win big games and Liverpool have fluffed the lot, and bought some really shit players last summer for a hell of a lot of money. Then to bring Glen Johnson on to save the game was bizarre!

I watched the game at home on the tv and half the village must have heard me shouting when both goals went in. What a fantastic performance from the Villa, bloody proud of them.
Grealish has the makings of one hell of a player. I work with several 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' fans and a few Everton fans so this week will be fun. I think I will plaster their lockers with the sports back pages.

I'm on holiday in Seahouses, Northumberland at the moment. I did my best to watch the game on a succession of dodgy, choppy streams with an iffy wifi connection. Missed the first two goals completely. At half time, in desperation I went up to a local pub to see if they were showing the game, only to be told, "oh, no, we're watching the Newcastle game, pet" (good for you, hope you enjoyed that one, you bastards!).
But this was a great day. Heroes all over the pitch, and I think we may have finally found ourselves a manager. I had a feeling all along we could pull it off, Liverpool are no great shakes at all. Arsenal will be tougher proposition in the final, but on our day we don't need to be scared of anyone any more.
One more thing. I watched part of the pre match coverage on BT Sport, and it was a fucking disgrace. As a professional broadcasting organisation they should be ashamed of themselves. It was so biased it was embarrassing, you'd have thought there was only one team playing today, and only one player worth mentioning in that team. Well, they had egg on their faces by the end, and it fucking well serves them right.

When I put my head on my pillow tonight each and every image will pass through my head but for the moment daft stuff rules because I am so happy.
We met up in a poncey pub in Hampstead because my son had work to do with some television glitterati who wanted to see a footie game. That worked out well except I disgraced myself on leaving the barman shouted at me "I hope you lose and have a thoroughly miserable afternoon" to which I replied "then you will know who came back and torched your fucking pub won't you" Cue "your dad really is passionate about footie isn't he?" and such cute observations. My son said "you should see him on a bad day."
Great to see ALL the lads do so well without exception and to see what is now blindingly obvious, Jack Grealish is a big game player.

Cleverley. Best impersonation of Des Brenner since the man himself. Always available for a pass and the defensive foundation for all the good stuff in their half. Probably unnoticed by most of the media.
Westwood. Typically understated performance.Intelligent use of the ball, always available for a pass and another that worked his 'nads off defensively.
Delph. Captains performance. Drive, determination and no little skill.
Grealish. That was only his 3rd start? The Danish commentators went from "risk playing such an inexperienced player" to "he'll be on his way to a bigger club this summer or next" in the space of 45 minutes. They shag themselves every time he got the ball. The sort of player you'll never get tired of watching if he can keep that level up.
Disciplined performance from N'Zogbia, lacked a final ball, but did his defensive work well.
Benteke. He was Benteke. Nothing else to say.

Around us in the CW seats I'd say it was 60% Liverpool, 30% us and the rest neutrals.
We got chatting to a couple of 50 something scouse blokes behind us before the match. After the match as they left, they made a point of wishing us the best in the final and saying that the best team had won. A gracious pair.
Unlike the surly faced dick in front, who, whilst our fans were drowning out YNWA, got really pissed off and shouted "show some fucking respect".

There was a group of 3 lads in front of us, must have been somewhere between 10-13, all singing their hearts out for 'Villa till I die', me and my Dad acknowledged them together and smiled. I said to him, "They're the future".

I've got an extremely busy schedule tomorrow (up at dawn to travel to Berlin with a tour group; still haven't packed) but the first thing I'll do when I get home in about an hour will be to replay the last 10 minutes to experience again that fantastic atmosphere behind the goal.

We had to attend a funeral removal this afternoon and knew nothing of the events unfolding which, is the way I prefer it. I was sitting in the back of my sister-in-law's car with Mrs S approaching the town where the removal was taking place when Mrs S received a text from our son wanting to know where we were as our ten-year-old grandson was trying to ring Grandad to talk about Villa's great win. I let out a roar which almost made sister-in-law's husband crash the car! not that he needs encouragement, he's a terrible driver.
We got to the funeral home I offered my condolences, and went outside to wait for the cortege to move off to the church and decided to sneak up the road to the pub that I knew would have the match on hoping to cop the highlights and, the first thing I saw was two Villa shirts sitting on the bar stools. They gave me a run down on what had happened and was unsurprisingly gushing about Grealish.
I finally got home in time to ring my grandson before he went to bed. He told me that one of his teachers was a Villa fan and, that if the Villa won today then he could wear his Villa shirt over his uniform to school Monday. That's a big thing for a kid who lives and goes to school in Wolverhampton.
I found it hard to keep the smile of my mug in the funeral home but, I haven't stopped grinning since Mrs S got the text. I told Mrs S that I had this feeling that we would do it today and, from reading all this thread we did it in style. These are the days we live for, as Villa supporters. I sincerely hope that the corner has been well and truly turned and that we get the necessary points required for safety and then next season show we can compete with the best of them.

What a fabulous day at Wembley, to a man they were superb. The villa fans were equal. It was a privilege to be in amongst that today.
A brilliant team performance and to have come from behind with two technically brilliant goals is just superb.
Most things have been said already so a few others from me, not witnessed an ounce of trouble all day, both sets of fans were great and commend Liverpool fans too who took defeat in good spirit.
The yellow car park worked superbly, Roger thank you.
Inside wembley - hot dog £5.30, 330ml Bud £4.95. Still it matters not.
The loaded nachos with chillie at £5.50 were better value.

I love how we have transformed into a team that is confortable playing in a number of different ways. Both goals were fast counter but great passing. What a fabulous day at Wembley, to a man they were superb. The villa fans were equal. It was a privilege to be in amongst that today.

I have certain pre-match rituals. Today, and no idea why, I polished my shoes, which is certainly not a usual event or pre-match ritual. Normally, gross exaggeration alert, there's more chance of me buying a new pair of shoes than polishing a pair. I'll get the polish out again on 30 May.

Lizz, I have got so many rituals I am amazed that I actually ever get to see the games. Starts with putting my feet straight in my Villa slippers before I get out of bed and ends with not parking my car until I see another car with a V in its number plate.

I always felt under Lambert that we had a far better set of players than performances and results suggested. We weren't just better today, we were good. Some of the passing in tight areas was in the 'you can't compete with that' class. Top drawer from a set of players who looked like they were tapping a live hand grenade to one another a few months back.
Not quite in the nation's eye, shamefully, with the game tucked away on BT and Sky screening a meaningless league match at the same time, but even more so than against Smethwick, we took the chance to show a wider audience what Aston Villa is about. Not just the team, who were brilliant, but also the fans, who were brilliant too. Liverpool were a clear second best throughout the stadium.
The lead up to the final will no doubt see Steven Gerard's name in every match article replaced with that of Alexis Sanchez. That's OK. He's going to have to go some to better Delph's athleticism in producing the two footed dribble that sliced open Liverpool in the build up to the first goal. Or the pass, run, jink and finish for the second.
We really are at the wrong end of the table and I am drunk.

What a day - for many reasons - but the main one being I managed to get a ticket for my Mom - who loved every minute of the day.
And it kept her mind off her chemotherapy which starts tomorrow.
She is positive and she will beat it - but whatever happens , 5 members and 3 generations of my family have had a day together than no one can ever take away from us .

Until February this was probably the most godawful season I've experienced in 25 years as a Villa fan. Since Sherwood arrived it's been a turnaround which could culminate in it being the most fantastic in these 25 years. Certainly winning the FA Cup (as long as we stay up with it) would probably nudge the 94 Cup final into second place for me.

Fantastic day out - well done and thanks to everyone representing our club today and well done to the Liverpool fans too, they were different class compared to the opposing fans on our last few visits to Wembley.

What an amazing day. To a man the Villa were excellent. Went with my Dad and Brother, pints before, the atmosphere, the game,, pints after, loads of gracious Liverpool fans, fa cup final to come. Today is what football and family is about.
On that note thoughts and best wishes to FFD's mum, glad you had that amazing day together, hope you have many more the same.

Have to agree with the comments about Liverpool fans, they were fantastic. We had some great banter with them outside the pub on Baker Street before decanting to the throngs of Villa fans in Wetherspoons opposite. Lots of hugs and shaking of hands with them and even some joint singing of our and their songs. Every one I met on the train and tube back said we deserved it, both for our performance and the fans' support. One Pool fan said he had never seen anything like it.

Hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
The fans were truly brilliant today, just brilliant. Things like that make you think of the potential at this club.
The neutral lady I sat next to who was a CW member and down with her husband and daughter for both semi finals was telling me how the atmosphere was infinitely better than that for the Arsenal - Reading semi final, and how our fans and team had basically "run things" from the start.
One other thing, I amazed myself at how incredibly calm I felt today. I never felt we were struggling, never felt like we were going to throw it away once we'd got ourselves back into it. To a degree, I usually find being at the match less stressful than watching on the television, but even taking that into account, it was really only the last 10 minutes - when i started looking at the clock - that I felt even remotely less than totally calm.

That video exemplifies how far we have come in so short a time. Players who didn't play, even those on the fringes of the side joined in and celebrated like they played today. I loved how Sherwood when he hugged Sanchez who missed today's game through suspension and just said "you're in the final". That there's no guarantee he'll play but just that he would have been gutted to miss out and now he has a chance again.
And a word for the skipper. Not Delph, but Ron Vlaar who almost unnoticed as given way to Delph graciously and yet you saw how much it meant to him too to get to the final. He's been superb on his return and having a winners medal in his back pocket when he leaves in the summer will be a much nicer memory than the majority of those he's had while at the club. A real model pro.

In the lead-up, I kept saying, "we'll lose anyway, so what the hell," but I never believed it. I felt we were more than good enough to win, and win well. So it was kind of a surprise to go behind. We scored the second, and I said I wouldn't start to think we were there until about the 85th minute...then it came, and the nerves arrived.
I didn't know what to do at the final whistle. I bellowed, like a moose, then I shed a tear or two. I'll be a wreck if the final performance is anything like the dress rehearsal.

Great performance and great day. We took the game to one of the 'big' teams for a change. The movement and attacking intent Sherwood has instilled in the team is so good to see and just shows up the paucity of ideas and tactics of the last few seasons. Not been back long after nearly an hour train delay just outside Solihull on the way home. What a day though and a terrific performance. Fans and players alike, I just think we wanted it more than them today and it showed. There were some very good performances, but I thought the midfield of Westwood, Cleverley, Delph and Grealish were superb and were the real driving force behind the win.

The substitutions didn't work out at the end but when you think of our injury problems, players playing out of position and where we were as a club just a few weeks ago this must be one of the greatest turn arounds in football history.
Grealish will be an England player, never seen a player of his age have such close control and vision but what struck me most of all wasn't any individual player it was how close as a team they are, the looks on their faces was something to behold, i don't know what Sherwood has said to the players or how they are coached but that was the most complete performance by a Villa side i have seen in years, lets make ourelves safe, look forward to the final and dream about what next season may bring.

Just got back (we celebrated with a few ales after the game). Fantastic result, we really played fucking well. Benteke is going to a massive loss when he goes, he was absolutely immense today. Grealish, Delph and Cleverley were other stand outs.

My boys 6, 9, 10 had a day today they will never ever forget. They didn't fight, they were congratulated by 20+ scousers on the tube / services and they now for the the 1st time in their lives will have their backs patted on the school playground in the morning (with just slightly baggy eyes). I feel proud cause all born in Lancashire these boys are all villa till they die ;D

Wow! What a truly amazing and memorable day for Villa and everyone associated with the club! :)
I never felt nervous in the days prior to the game and there was an air of reassuring confidence from walking up Wembley Way at 10:30am this morning to the atmosphere in the Green Man and as the game panned out with Villa dominating play...not overly confident, just an overwhelming feeling that we are Villa and it felt "right".
The defending for their goal was very sloppy but I'm going to have to take part of the blame for going to the toilet during the game...I've never done that before and I promise not to do it again! Special thanks to Benteke for quickly correcting my mistake of having a toilet break!
We were great and unified both on and off pitch...from the banter and vocal support to the dominating display on the pitch. Apart from one stroppy stuck up bitch with her head up her own arse, the Liverpool fans were gracious and sporting in defeat after the game, but I barely heard a peep from the Liverpool fans during the game and can't even remember them singing YNWA...did they even sing it or did we just drown them out?
I don't have BT Sport, but would love to see the game in full and hear the biblical moment of support in the last few minutes. Any idea if the game will be shown again or available online anywhere?

A cracking day out - took my lad for his "birthday treat" [11 today] and was dreading the drive back with long faces. How could I doubt the Villa ... they provided us with a fantastic day, a great atmosphere, a brilliant performance, a tremendous result and three scousers who on the tube back treated him like royalty after spotting his shirt. That's the best 2nd halves performance I've seen from a Villa team in ages. We just poured through the middle of the park, Grealish, N'Zog, Delph, Cleverly, Benteke all superb.
I thought 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' really suffered having Gerrard in the midfield. His legs have gone and literally every time they gave the ball away in the middle of the park we were on to them. Thought 2-1 flattered 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' a little tbh.

Still walking on air. That is how to cheer on a team. The whole game was a wall of sound from the Villa end but the recollection of the last five minutes was such an outpouring of raw emotion it still makes the hairs on my neck stand up fourteen hours later.
brian I couldn't go, being in Aus, but the noise the Villa supporters made was incredible. Had a few doubts before the match, but the noise of the fans had me in no doubt after it started. not the biggest fan of Liverpool, but from all accounts they deserve a shout out! Up the Villa!!

Voice totally gone this morning from all the singing in the pub and at the ground. Such a brilliant atmosphere coming out of the ground down the stairways, the noise and songs were deafening. Great to see so many young kids finally getting the chance to see just how magnificent this club can be, they are our future and need something to believe in. I was in tears at the final whistle.

Read somewhere that Benteke's goal was our first in a semi final for 60 years. Jesus that is as old as i am !
Until yesterday Small Heath had more living FA Cup semi-final goalscorers than we had.

At 1pm I was having a meal in a restaurant in a village not far from home. I was planning to get the owner of one of the village bars to put the game on but when I enquired, he said he would be full of egg-chasers watching their semi-final. So, in desperation I phoned the owner of the bar in the village where I live. He is usually closed on Sunday afternoons but he opened the bar for me so we could see the game on his big screen. I am so glad he was willing to do that. What a game!
Little things stick in the mind like the French commentators having a joint wankathon when Liverpool got a corner whereas we had already had three. Also Baker, what a fucking hipster beard! I'd fine him for that. Oh, and at 0-1 down the telly went into "Eco sleep mode" and by the time the bar-owner got it to "wake up", all our players were hugging Benteke which was a "fuck-me, we've equalised" moment. Anyway, the replay of the goal was delicious. She-who-must-be-obeyed even came up for the second half (although it was probably to drag me out of the bar before I spent the housekeeping on organic, unpasteurised, unfiltered locally-brewed Catalan beer ;-)
Can anyone get me a ticket for the final then ;-)

Good morning boys and girls! To quote Tony The Tiger I feel greeeeeaaaaaat. I have to admit I shed a tear when Benteke equalised. I didnt expect that to happen. When Baker went off I feared the worst. Intitally Jores was not at the races, wasn't even in the locality!. I thought we might collapse, I really should have more faith! Right, my man of the match. Not the usual suspects Benteke,Delph, Cleverley or Vlaar who of course
played to the upmost heights of their form. Not even Jack who was sensational. But someone who gets critisism aplenty Ashley Westwood.
Westwood hardly made a mistake in the 90mins. His performance was a model of the complete midfielder. His pass rate was excellent, he won tackles, he linked well. He was a credit to Aston Villa FC. Liverpool supporters we spoke to in a pub in Kentish Town afterwards were highly critical of Sterling who gave the impression he was not over interested but thought we have a very good chance of 'doin Arsenal over' judging
by their abject performance against Reading. You know what,I think they are right as well!

All three of our players stopped playing by the time he put it in. I would have liked to see him score like that with Okore crowding him out of Given spreading himself more.
Also point out their goal was very fluckey otherwise it might have been 2-0.

I find it even more satisfying that some Liverpool fans might feel hard done by. This is what most teams have to put up with, so deal with it. Having said that, most of their fans and management have been magnanimous in defeat. Let's se how the Tarquins deal with it at the final.

Watched the game in the local surrounded by Liverpool supporters. Felt nervous before the game, and when Gerrard stepped up to take that free kick i thought "here we go again", but no we were magnificent. I overheard one liverpool fan say to his mate, "we are gouing to lose this aren't we" his mate said "no, we will beat these, they are rubbish", i knew then the win was ours. When the final whistle went i couldn't help myself and jumped up and punched the air, and turned to look at the Liverpool fans.
Great result, my 2 kids will be in school today telling everyone how great it is to be a Villa fan.

I was listening to WM (I know, sorry) on the way to work this morning and when the sports bulletin came on they played back the end of the game yesterday. I nearly had to pull over to the side of the road because I was welling up so much.

All week my son has been saying we would win 2-1 after going a goal behind, most of his mates are Liverpool 'fans' and he said he couldn't face going to school if Villa lost. Yesterday was one of the greatest days of my 40+ years of Villa supporting and to be able to share it with Billy made it even more special, he was singing and joining in with the songs (he thought he was allergic to YNWA as he had a sneezing fit when it was sung!)and at full time the emotional (pissed!) lads who were stood next to him hugged him and gave him high fives, it was that sort of day, so proud of the team and the support, every single player was immense.
One thing I will say is that every single Liverpool supporter we encountered was gracious in defeat, the guys on our train back north were all saying how well Villa played and deserved the win and it would have been a travesty if they had equalised. The only negative of the day was the loud mouthed crushing bore in a Villa shirt on the train down. The entire carriage knows he was also a Mansfield season ticket holder and also a fan of Derby, had been to Peterborough and Stevenage several times, enjoys pub quizzes, has a son called Logan and a baby daughter, is looking for a new cleaning job and is planning a weekend in Plymouth next season. Do us a favour mate, lose some weight, keep your voice down, try giving personal hygiene and grooming a go and just go and watch Mansfield.
It was hard work getting my son up for school this morning but the words "Do you want to watch Match of the Day before you go?" did the trick! What a day, didn't get much sleep last night,still running on adrenalyn.

I know I'm biased (as we all are) but it wasn't just on the pitch that we outshone them yesterday. From the moment they dragged-out their moth-eaten banner to our claret & blue mosaic. Even when we went 1-0 down we were the ones creating the atmosphere. I was sat in Block 127, on the very last row before the Liverpool Supporters, so was well-placed to hear a balance of both fans too. I appreciate that a Wembley trip is probably more of an 'occasion' to us that to them, but even still, it just felt like we were the bigger club from the moment I set foot on Wembley way. A day I'll never forget, regardless of what happens in the final.

Outstanding day and outstanding performance. It makes it even great that we fought back from a goal down. Our reponse was a briliant! We totally out played Liverpool, we worked hard all game, showed great character, and was just so positive with pace. I was a bit nervy late in the game as I always felt they would have a chance or two, but we got the luck we deserved, and Richardson might make himself a Villa legend yet with moments like that goal line cleanace ;)
Delph had his best ever Villa game and actally looked like a leader, and Grealish also did himself proud and it must've been a great moment for him when being subbed and getting that standing ovation from the Villa fans! :) But really the whole team were great. Am really happy for Given getting another shot at glory at a later stage in his career. He seemed really emotional in his interview post-game. I've always been a fan and think he is a great a pro! 8) And Sherwood deserves the props too. Regardless of weather he stays long term at Villa or does much else of distinction then there should be a place in Villa Park history for him just for getting us from such a low to a great day at Wembley and then what I hope will be an even greater day on May 30 ;D One thing I like is that with Gabby not fit, he didn't go with a safe option like saying playing Weinmann. He could see that we needed pace in the team and that Liverpool were there to be got at, and he stuck to his guns, and deserves a lot of priase for that :) Man do I love the cup! Its been a great season for the cup, and it just got even better!
As for the final? I can't see Arsenal playing as badly as they did on Saturday and they are much stronger than Liverpool, but then if we can repeat the performance of yesterday and maybe get a bit of luck then I think we have got a good chance. We are the underdogs once again and that is just how I like it. UP THE VILLA!! One last big step and then we Sherwood and lads and become instant club legends! :)

This was bizarre - I found myself chatting to Trevor Francis's son on the Jubilee Line to Kilburn yesterday morning - brilliant atmosphere in the pub, before and after the game. He was going to the match with a scouse fella. Didn't he get done for robbing Lee Hendrie or something? Anyway, he was ok actually, quite funny when he said that every time he tells a villa fan who his dad is, they always start singing about walking a mile and a bit....

Watched the game at home after a 6 hour drive down from Muscat to Duqm, on blood pressure tablets but they had no effect at all yesterday, for the second half I never sat down once and any of the neighbors would have thought WTF.

First of all FFD, I hope your Mum had a great day and the best of luck to her with her treatment.
I watched the game this morning and I just knew it was our day. From when the teams were lining up outside the changing rooms before they came out, the noise you could hear from the Villa fans was amazing. To the mosaic Villa at the start and throughout the game, the fans were tremendous and I will admit, it brought a tear to my eye. The only time I heard the Liverpool fans were when they scored and then they got drowned out by the Villa fans urging the team on. Makes me bloody proud to support this great club.
As for the game itself, every one of them played with the passion we would expect from a Villa player and they all played their part. I hate to single any players out but I have watched the game twice and I thought Delph was magnificent and is maturing into the great player we all thought we would get when we signed him.
Well done Aston Villa, you have given us our pride back. God I love days like this.

That is true. It does depress me the way Football has gone that a lot of big clubs see getting 4th as more important than winning a cup. You would think that yesterday would have a been a big deal for Liverpool with their chances of CL almost gone, but it didn't seem that way based on their performance. Still their loss lol.

I was in row 7 of block 130 (M) just wanted to apologise to the 2 guys in front of me, who I nearly deafened!, and I hope the little lad who was with his Dad behind me had a day he will remember for a long time to come.
Just hope that we get the couple of wins that ensure survival quickly and then we can put on a similar performance in the Final....i just have a feeling that this is our year for Cup glory, seen us win everything else it would be the complete set with us lifting the cup.
But the great thing about all of this is that Slowly but surely - we are getting our VILLA BACK!

Outstanding. Why I love Villa. We've had to put up with some real dross for the last few years and this was a culmination of all that anger and frustration let out on a fantastic day out at Wembley.
Remy Juniors - I , II, III all put on their shirts and supported their Dad. Brought a few tears. My Aston Villa. Our Aston Villa. #Fought Like Lions.
I cant single out any one individual player - they were all magnficent.

The '12th man effect' is often mentioned regarding fans, but for me it's always been a bit of a throw away line to make the supporters feel good and thank them.
Yesterday I honestly saw the '12th man effect' With 10 minutes to go we had players dead on their feet.
At this point there is a moment I will never forget.
Benteke turns to the crowd and urges us on. We were loud all game, but the noise level went up another 500 decibels. I literally saw the players lift. It put a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye.
The game? Feckin' fantastic :)

One was a Bosnian guy who now lives in Boston (USA not Lincs) who paid a fortune for the tickets online and told me proudly that he knew all the words to You'll Never Walk Alone and the other was a buyer for Tesco who's probably been to Anfield 5 times in the last 10 years. Christ knows how he got a ticket.

Agreed. Winning the cup will be down to a bit of luck and lot of application and I don't care if we don't win it however what I do care about is Aston Villa FC competing. I want us to be in the semi or final on a regular basis. Yesterday and Saturday May 30th is going to be great days regardless.

I think you are right. Nearly 10 years since they won something other than the League Cup now, which is poor by their standards. They don't look remotely close to winning the league again in the foreseeable future and they are now struggling to convince their better players to stay or the top drawer players to join them.

The replay of Benteke celebrating the equaliser, with the camera shot from behind the goal was wonderful. The camera pans across a writhing sea of joy.
Also the look on Delph's face is a picture as he appears to be nervously laughing at Benteke screaming, shouting, going completely and utterly mental.

Back home, on Merseyside after a brilliant weekend - I spent a lovely time with my son VCTM jnr - he now has a fantastic positive Villa memory to look back on. The atmosphere created by the Villa fans was electric. My pride in the Villa was restored after a brilliant display of attacking football. The atmosphere at the Clay Oven was fun too.
I look forward to another weekend in North London in May
Jnr is looking forward to school tomorrow when they return after half term - I wished I could be there with him as he just gives that knowing smirk to all those who predicted a Liverpool win.
As for me its Karma - I have held a grudge since we lost at Anfield in the Cup around the late 1960`s (1967?) It was my first visit to Liverpool and it was spoiled by Ian ST John scoring the winner at the Kop end despite being a mile off side - up yours Ballotelli and the mighty Kop - thats how it feels to get robbed by the effin linesman!!!!

Were you above Block 128 Paulie? There were a couple of them in there who were giving it the big one to the Villa fans below from the safety of their Club Wembley seats.
Full on w*nker and c*cks*cker signs, whilst their female partners were with them, and were clearly winding up some our supporters. I was surprised there weren't any stewards there to have a word with them. Considering you are told not to wear colours up there, I'd have thought screaming verbal abuse wouldn't have been tolerated. I did though have a feeling then that it would be our day and had a big smile to myself at the end and looked up to see if they were there. Unfortunately they'd obviously left in a hurry but I'm so glad their day was ruined.
Contrast that with the couple we met on the tube on the way in who were very nice and wished us good luck, although not too much. However their pre match worries about Benteke and Delph proved to be right.
As for the roar, I've been a bit subdued in my vocal support over the last few years, I think the previous two managers drained most of my passion but I let out an almighty "Come Onnnnnn" at that point and surprised myself as I'd had no alcohol due to last minute travel plans changing. The look on my 11 year old son's face was a picture and I think I went up slightly in his estimations as he was having his best Villa supporting day of his life. He couldn't believe how much I was joining in with the singing.
I was so happy for him to be in a Villa crowd where everyone was happy and he was being hugged and high five'd by everyone. Outside, to see people singing, dancing, crying, laughing and hugging was brilliant and I think this will go down as one of the great Villa days out. Hopefully to be bettered on the 30th May.

We managed too blag ourselves two tickets in the club Wembley part directly on the half way line were the players come out so was bang inbetween the two sets of fans and the noise from our lot was spine tingling, Maybe its because Liverpool have won a fair bit recently and we haven't but you could just tell that the whole thing meant so much more too us than what it did too them.
Grealish grew of age yesterday, he's shown moments here and there during the season but that was the complete performance from him, the ball just seemed glued too his feet, We have a gem on our hands there! he was head and shoulders the best midfielder on the pitch in a game that included Coutinho and Gerrard (Yep, I know he's an over-rated shit house). Delph was just behind him performance wise while Cleverly and Westwood had great games too.
The most pleasing aspect of the performance though for me, and this goes for the Spurs game too, was that we never looked in any danger of conceeding once we went ahead, there was a calmness about the team that we just don't relate with Villa, In years gone by I'd have been shitting myself as soon as we'd scored the 2nd and waiting for the inevitable but we seemed totally in control of the situation and Sherwood (I thought he was a terrible appointment, happily i was wrong) has too take a huge amount of credit for that.
I've gone from being bored shitless with football too getting the tingles back, its a remarkable turn around, I'm known for being dead inside but I'm not ashamed too say that I had tears in my eyes at the end yesterday, we need too win the damn thing now!

Liverpool with Gerrard have maneouvred into that tricky area where you've got a player of immense emotional stature at the club, and you know he's leaving soon, so you get big matches like this and the heart starts to battle with the head over whether he should play or not.
He's clearly finished at this level, it was pretty pitiful to watch yesterday.
The one time in the last two seasons I've seen him look anything like the player he was was against Wimbledon in the earlier rounds, which probably tells you everything.
I was pleased he was playing as well as despite the off chance he'll pull out a stunning long range goal his general performance was always going to hinder them. To be fair they acknowledge he's finished on RAWK as well.
Just taken our aging dog for a walk - she is getting very slow so at one point I said to her "Come on you're slower than Gerrard" at which point she stopped and produced another item which best describes his performance yesterday.

There was one of our breakaways when we were 2-1 up where Nzogbia got totally broadsided off the ball and taken out. Not that it matters now but we were definitely on for a 3rd goal there if he'd not been poll axed.

Just finally found the strength to post from a amazing day. Didn't leave hilton Wembley till 10 last night got into bed at 12 then up for work at 5 but our performance on and off the pitch got me through the day.
We played our part off the pitch with our support as the players did ther bit on the pitch with an amazing top drawer performance.
It really was written in the stars tried to get in green man at 11 ish but told was full so went into St Joseph's down the road, went there in 94 and 96 and we won but never went there in 2010.
Then 3rd floor bar of the hilton which was brilliant to and back again after the match

We were in block 227, six rows from the front, and I couldn't see any of that going on.
Mind you, just had a look and we were a fair way along from you - on the halfway line, pretty much.
There wasn't any badness in our section. There were three Villa fans just to the right of us who were clearly very pissed and getting pretty overexcited, and got asked to calm down a bit four or five times by stewards. Nothing malicious at all, and they weren't rude or owt (they were pretty polite with the stewards). They'd then calm down for about five minutes and start again.
We were wished all the best and told the best team won by some of the Liverpool fans by us. The only obnoxious one was some twat in front of me who, when we were booing out YNWA, shouted "show some respect", and seemed to actually mean it.
That was about it, though.
I didn't see any aggressive or obnoxious behaviour at all day, in or around the ground.

One of my personal highlights yesterday, driving back after cutting through to Northolt, we had the scarves etc out the car window, a large Asian family all stopped and applauded as went past , we gave them the massive celebratory fist punch in the air and carried on. Superb.

I got home from work at around 3 ish and it's now 10.15. Since I got in I've read every newspaper report, watched highlights, interviews, read facebook messages and liked some photos, read every word on this site and the time has just flown by. I was at Anfield for that cup game too VCTM, you are the only person since that has mentioned the fact that we were robbed by that St. John goal. I've never stopped banging on about it, at least a yard offside when the ball was played. We were a shit side then but, that day we really put it up to them and, Willie Anderson hit the bar at the Kop end in the first half and, the way we were playing had it gone in, we would have definitely won. Another example of the top sides benefiting from 'home' decisions. I'm still steaming about it.

I was at that game VCTM and remember St John scoring that goal which looked yards offside .It was hard to take as we had lost to them the week before in a league match ,also at Anfield in which we had played well and deserved a least a draw.

Was sat in Club Wembley seats in block 234 but in the West End of the ground. Was a good crack with plenty of Villa there. Loads of 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' day-trippers tbh who all evaporated from the 80th minute. As soon as I found my seat I saw the guys next to us had Villa scarves on I shook their hands and said 'thank God we're next to Villa fans.'
Green Man was a good laugh before the game as well. Took my brother as a boys day out before he moves to LA in the summer and he enjoyed it nearly as a much as me!

Just remembered my dad driving us from Wembley to Euston after the match and as we drove past Madame Tussauds there was a group of 10/15 Villa fans, we put our heads out the window and started the wooooooah Christian Benteke song, too which the lads on the street started a Villa conga while belting out the anthem, cue the car stopping at the red lights and said group all gathering around the car in the road while jumping up and sown as we all leaned out the windows in and belted out the Benteke song in unison too the bewilderment of the Cockneys :D

Well, what a day.
I watched in a bar in Krakow with an Arsenal fan, a Man City fan and a load of English & Polish Liverpool fans. All of them were full of praise for Benteke and Grealish, especially Grealish. The Arsenal fan summed it up well when Grealish went off saying he was gutted he was going off as he'd enjoyed watching him so much.
To top things off, about a minute after the final whistle, I was sitting beaming from ear to ear when a bloke strolled in and in a broad Black Country accent said "how many did the Villa lose by then? I hate the Villa more than I love the Albion." Could the day have got any better? Was this not a sign that events were being directed from on high?
I gave him a full run down of proceedings and thanked him for his club's part in getting us there. To be fair, he was a good bloke and we exchanged a bit of banter. I offered him the use of my Villa hat in the cold Krakow air but he didn't seem interested.

My missus is from an Asian background and with one exception (Chelsea and hes old enough to have followed them before they got the money) all the male relatives I know in London (brother, sisters husbands, cousins etc) support Liverpool or United. Anyway at least one of the guys you saw is a distant relative but its probably the first time hes seen them this season.

I was in the upper tier to the right of the goal, block 536. Apologies to the young lad Sam to my left who was brilliant and very knowledgeable but had to put up with my creative swearing for a couple of hours.
I got 2 tickets on the half way line for a couple of mates ( who come to games with us but are more well wishers than Villa fans) and they said the Villa fans absolutely won the supporters war. Funny as from the first row of the upper tier it didn't feel that our support was crazily loud, but that was probably because of my own nervousness and shouting.
As well as the goals there was that strange roar that started in the 85th minute that seemed to. One from the bowels of the stadium. I have no idea what prompted it - any ideas?
I have now changed my will and want Hi ho Silver Lining played at my funeral.

Been congratulated by lots of people today. I went for a workout and they congratulated me in reception; I was chatting to a Big Issue seller outside Liverpool street and some random guy noticed my Villa jacket and told me he was happy for me. Crazy times, but very nice!

That 85 minute roar was great. It was a combination of first Benteke throwing his arms up to get the crowd going again and then Tim following him. Loved it. From where I was it sounded amazing. Great day, great game, great goals, great performance and fantastic support.

We were right at the back of the lower tier - banging on the walls and the ceiling like our lives depended on it. It made a fantastic noise!
I know that there is no way our tickets for the final will land there again, I will miss being able to do that - it was a great feeling being able to make such a big contribution to the roar!
When 4 minutes went up, my watch was on exactly ten to 5. I kept looking at it and it seemed stuck on ten to 5 for ages, then suddenly it just went. The celebrations were brilliant, and I love that Ashley Wrstwood just seemed to not want to leave. He kept walking towards the tunnel, then coming back. My bottle completely went at 89 minutes, I said to those around me I can't stand this no more and went underneath the stadium to pace out the last 4 mins
I could see through the entrance opening the Scouse fans and just kept looking at them hoping I wouldn't be seeing them jumping up and down
About 30 seconds to go I made my way back in to celebrate the final whistle with my eldest lad
Probably the greatest moment we have ever had at a Villa match together, he's 26 and has seen his fair share of disappointments

I got 2 tickets on the half way line for a couple of mates ( who come to games with us but are more well wishers than Villa fans) and they said the Villa fans absolutely won the supporters war. Funny as from the first row of the upper tier it didn't feel that our support was crazily loud, but that was probably because of my own nervousness and shouting.
Were they a very pleasant middle-aged couple per chance? I was in the very last row before the stewards and sat next to 2 such people who didn't flicker at either team scoring or join in with any singing or show sway towards either team. They also left in about the 82nd minute, which was very odd, given the excitement. I definitely don;t think they were Liverpool, but they also didn;t seem to be Villa fans!

Watched the full build up and game last night. What stood out was how utterly fucking brilliant Grealish really was. Totally unphased. In fact, the whole midfield were brilliant with Delph the pick of the bunch if you had to pick one.
Two months ago that lot looked disorganized, disinterested and lacked motivation or appeared to do so, Now just look at them. We look like a side, a proper side with direction and a plan. Dare I say it, we have the makings of a very decent outfit. What Sherwood has done in such a short time is remarkable and he should get every bit of praise as he deserves all of it.

After a bit of stick backwards and forth, he decided to block us all. I think that what's called 'losing the arguement and going off in a huff'.

Headache, achey, tired, unfocused, not really fancying much to eat.
It must be an emotional release sort of thing.
Basically it was as if, after four years of watching us and fearing my eye balls were about to start gushing blood, or that my broken spirit was going to rebel and smash my heart into pieces, finally something had gone well, and I was being swamped by endorphins.
Or serotonin, or whatever that "you're happy" brain shit is called.

Completely agree with all of the above. The thing that excites me, is that we know we're going to go and have a go at beating Arsenal. We're not going to sit-back and try to hit them on the break, or try to keep bodies behind the ball in the hope that we'll nick a lucky goal and stay tight. We'll go and try to bully and dominate them, as we did to Liverpool, and it's a fucking beautiful thing to watch. As Duncan says, whatever happens in the final, I really feel like we've got our club back and the next few years are going to be enjoyable again.

I was at Hull and that really was 1986-87 all over again in terms of the sheer shiteness of what was going on on the pitch. To beat Spurs away and Liverpool at Wembley quite comfortably would have seemed impossible then. Let's keep it going, take Citeh as another free hit but don't get too despondent if we lose, get safe and enjoy the final.

Got the day at home today so I think I'm gonna put the game on again.
I counted that I have now watched it about 6 times, the goals many more times. Even as just background noise while I'm doing other things lifting my head at key moments. It's fantastic to watch, and I'm hugely jealous of as much as I am delighted for those who experienced it. The closest I can recall to this level of emotion was Tranmere at VP. The feeling I had after that game is still crystal clear to this day.
God this thread is fantastic reading. I really do hope we can finish the job now.

The great big cherry on the top is Jack Grealish. For a player like him to blossom he needs the opposition to fear him, not just do what Stoke did and kick him up in the air. The Arsenal will have seen what he did last Sunday and they will not know whether to stick or twist. It will be Stan Matthews and Bolton take 2.

The thing with Arsenal is they have lots of players like Grealish. Ok not exactly like him, but have incredible technical ability. We have to get right into Arsenal and really get into them and not let them have the ball. They have such fantastic movement off the ball that they are quite capable of slicing through a team. And they will be massively confident right now as they are on a superb run of form. It will be a very tough game.

If Arsenal and Villa both repeat their performances from the weekend, we'll win. I barely missed a home game from 1988 til 2010. Gave up my season ticket and apart from a handful of games i've not set foot inside Villa Park since. On Sunday i watched from the pub a Villa side that excited me again. A side that I know will lose games but a side which won't roll over and gets their bellies tickled. That's good enough for me, and my seven year old daughter who sat quietly watching the game alongside me asked me straight after if she could go and watch the Villa. So my exile is ended, tickets purchased this morning for the Everton game in the family area of the Trinity. One returning fan, and one brand new one. Well done boys, the pride was restored on Sunday.

They clearly played pretty badly on Saturday but they've generally been a hell of a lot better this season, and Alexis is terrifying at his best. It'll take a performance of the same level as Sunday's to beat them, and a bit more luck.

I have two sons one is 26 the other just 7, they probably get sick and tired of me banging on about Andy Gray, Withe, Shaw, Cowans etc, and how great they all were
In 40 years time will they be telling there kids about Benteke, Delph and Grealish

what a birthday treat for me on Sunday.....we played the whole game in their half and pressed them high up the pitch when we lost possession, the noise was amazing and I'd be lying if I didn't have a tear in my eye for my dear Dad at the final whistle.
got the train at 09.30am to London and got home at midnight and luckily I had Monday off to recover as I was high on emotion and beer :)

I was saying that to someone this morning. I had my first "dry" Wembley day out, did all the photos up Wembley Way etc, yet felt hungover and knackered all day. I was lying in bed at 8;30 last night.
There is though, a strange contented feeling when you haven't had too much to drink and believe me I've watched many a game with one eye shut.
Still buzzin' today, as Gary Gardner might say.

But Arsenal beat us comfortably at their place minus Sanchez. They can lose a few key players and it doesn't seem to disrupt them.

When the draw was made and we found we'd realistically be playing Liverpool, may son said they were the best team in the country on current form. I think they'd won their last 8 games.
I replied the semi final is 5/6 weeks away yet, a lot can happen in that time, it'll be hard for them to maintain this form for that long. By the time we play them they may be having a bit of a wobble. That's what happened.
It's exactly the same with Arsenal now, wishful thinking perhaps, but let's see what their form is like come late May.

We have been a club in what seems a coma for best part of 5 years. Trying different tracts every few months with little continuity or planning - strategic or tactical. A drifting listless shell of a football club. The lights were on, Just, but there was nobody home.
We'd become a footballing non entity. I though TSM season was the Nadir yet it turned out to not be the case as we had 2.5 more years+ of utter shite, honorable, usually fortunate, exception aside.
We are back. No longer should teams see us as a soft touch. We may lose against a club which probably cost 20 times more than ours on Saturday but we will lose with dignity. We may even win and iIt would be nice to exercise another ghost this week - a win against the team of the Houllier FA Cup capitulation.

Both would take Skrtl and Can but due to their own limitations at the back/ holding midfield areas. Coutinho, Sturridge and Sterling they would take. And probably Henderson as a squad player. The rest most likely not.

Two days on and a little less light headed. What that whole day did for me was to enable me to rid myself if all the pent up anger and pain of the recent past. When the lions began that awesome, terrifying roar at the end, it all came pouring out. Right back to the Stoke 2-2, the MON premeditated strike, Houllier's Liverpool love in, TSM1, TSM2, Chelsea 0-8, Bradford, Millwall, Orient, the (alleged) bullying, the treatment of Marc Albrighton, Collins and Dunne fighting with Sid, the bomb squad - the whole lot came pouring out of me. Minutes later I was being hugged and kissed by total strangers with tears rolling down their faces and my rehabilitation was complete.

Yes we may lose the final. Still likely. But what our nearest and dearest are more upset about is that we're in the Final. They're unlikely to win anything for a very very long time, if again. They know we, however, will always end up in a final sooner or later and if not this year then sooner or later we'll be adding more silverware. if only for a few weeks the Villa are back and we're being talked about again.
I also think the Man City game is perfect for us. Lose and we're right back amongst it and it will stop the players thinking about Wembley but concentrate their minds on the immediate importance. Hopefully anyway. Draw or win and its just an added bonus.

Going to watch the game tonight for the first time since seeing (most of) it live on Sunday. (Thank you London Transport for closing the Central line at Acton North and then closing the feckin Jubilee line before we got to Bond street. We had to walk from there and missed the first 20 minutes you bunch of inbred cocksockets!) Looking forward to seeing it while not wound up tighter than a two-bob watch spring. I thought my days of singing at a match were long gone but there was me belting out "Villa 'til I die" and "ooooh Christian Benteke" at the top of my lungs. That "roar", instigated by the beast himself waving us on sent shivers down my spine. I'm still hoarse now two days on and my face still aches from the grinning but I care not!

The thing with Arsenal is they have lots of players like Grealish. Ok not exactly like him, but have incredible technical ability. We have to get right into Arsenal and really get into them and not let them have the ball. They have such fantastic movement off the ball that they are quite capable of slicing through a team. And they will be massively confident right now as they are on a superb run of form. It will be a very tough game.

I'm jealous of all the lucky buggers that managed to either be there, watch it on telly or get constant updates throughout. On Saturday I joined a ship in Colombo, sailed to Panama and got ashore Monday night, as soon as I got to the immigration desk I asked them what was the Villa/Liverpool score and they had the good grace to look it up on their computer for me - cue an outburst of loud cheers and jumping around like a loon and I truly believe that if I wasn't flying today they would have deported me anyway.
A wonderful result, still have tears in my eyes reading through all the posts.

I had a wonderful, wonderful day and I am so proud of Aston Villa: players, manager, staff and our fans - unfu**ingbelieveable! My face aches from smiling; throat still sore; keep getting a bit of grit in my eyes.

I got 2 tickets on the half way line for a couple of mates ( who come to games with us but are more well wishers than Villa fans) and they said the Villa fans absolutely won the supporters war. Funny as from the first row of the upper tier it didn't feel that our support was crazily loud, but that was probably because of my own nervousness and shouting.
Were they a very pleasant middle-aged couple per chance? I was in the very last row before the stewards and sat next to 2 such people who didn't flicker at either team scoring or join in with any singing or show sway towards either team. They also left in about the 82nd minute, which was very odd, given the excitement. I definitely don;t think they were Liverpool, but they also didn;t seem to be Villa fans!
RussellC, they were in the very first row ( first 2 seats on the Liverpool side by their bench) and got 3 stewards assigned to them when they leaped up when we equalised. They were told they would be thrown out if they jumped up again and kept calm for our winner.
The mate who got me the tickets said they were in a neutral zone but was patently wrong as it said FA - Liverpool on the tickets. I willingly gave up the half line "neutral" view ( in reality I could only do this if I had no alternative) for the top tier seat by the corner flag with full on Villa support.
And what an effing good decision that was!

Haven't got that but saw him in a pub near Euston with, I take it, his Dad and a few others at 10 ish in the morning. He was keeping his head down a bit so good to hear he got into the swing of things later.

This must be the longest post match thread ever! I too lifted my son up in the air for both goals and the final whistle Brian. Thankfully he's only 11, I'm still aching all over though. At the end of the game I looked around and two young kids were crying. I then realised the one in front of us had his iPhone knocked out of his hand while he was trying to take pics of the celebration and it was smashed and the one behind us had raked his shins down the seat in front of him, ouch! The 3 lads on the end of the row,who'd had more than a few sherberts, were all lying on the floor on top of each other.

Liverpool are miles from that. They are 4th in a League that didn't provide a ~Chumps League Quarter Finalists.

I used to will any European club to beat them just to shut them up. I used to find them the most boring of sides to watch, pass pass pass back to goalie....... and repeat......
Sunday was pay back for years of all that crap. It was lovely.
But I will also add that the scousers who attended the game and spoke to me after the match were nothing but gracious in defeat.

Same here. I was at Highbury and Rotterdam and Sunday was right up there, at the risk of sounding a soft git I think seeing my 12 year old son singing and dancing and looking so bloody happy and being able tospend a fantastic day with him contributed, I was choked up at the final whistle.

I also have two at work - one spent an hour yesterday looking for final tickets on the web and came up with prices of around £600 from various dodgy sites - he's such a twat that he actually thought that this was the face value price of a ticket. This is the worst thing about cup finals - ticket availability to the genuine fans.

I caught the train at Milton Keynes which had come directly from Liverpool, I was wearing colours and there was standing room only, I got chatting to a fair few of the little Scalies and they were great to be fair, but obviously that was before the game, they all expected to win no probs, and didn't rate sherwood tactically,
Amazingly they even kept me going with free beer all the way down, yep that's right free beer from a scouser
Before and after the match and I did frequent a load of pubs all over the capital I only had good responses, some Even congratulating us on winning and wishing us luck in the final,
I'm sure there are others who will have bad stories but I have to say I was very surprised
I always respect VCTM on here who very often fights a lone battle sticking up for the city he lives in, but he's never convinced me anything good ever comes out of the place,
so credit to them on Saturday for proving my bigoted opinions a bit wrong

I cringe now thinking about it, but just before Fergie got Man Utd winning they played Liverpool at Anfield and got dicked 3 or 4 - 0 without playing particularly badly. I remember feeling almost sorry for Fergie as no matter what he tried, he just could not get a result at Anfield. That's how insignificant Man Utd were in the late 80's.

I never disliked Liverpool growing up. they were just better by far and ruled Europe. It took Man U getting the breaks with that youth team and the Sky money to try and achieve what Liverpool did. I've only started really disliking them since their fans became utter gobshites over the past 10-15 years or so.

To my recollection it became full-on after the 1964/65 season. They won the FA Cup that year and it was only one-way after that. With the rise of the Beatles around the same time, everything that came out of Liverpool was the best ever seen according to the media when they quickly made Liverpool the centre of the universe.

Wasnt my experience. Liverpool were my second team in the mid to late 70's. Keegan was probably something to do with it. I dont remember the media love in at the time but it wasnt 24 hour coverage in those days.
During that time, if a British club played in europe I supported them albeit there was little live footy to watch. Now I've changed, the biggest laugh I've had this season is seeing Paris beat chelsea. Golden

Got to say every single Liverpool supporter we encountered on the journey down and back and at the ground before and after were great, very magnaminous and gracious in defeat and quick to say howwe deserved the win as we by far the better team.

Agree all but one knob head on a coach were very gracious. Even when the knob head put his finger at my 10 yr old, his mate said "give it him back laa". He did but 2 fingers and 1 :-). A few I spoke too were genuinely please due to the young fan base we took.

I agree with everything Dave says above. They were consistent trophy winners when I was a Villa mad nipper watching us around 1970-75 ( in divisions 2&3) and weren't even close to being rivals or a source of jealousy. They had some great players, but consistently had incredible teams.
Shankly was an amazing catalyst but I think Bob Paisley often gets overlooked when great British managers are discussed.

We were at the red end and the Reds I chatted to after were generally pretty gracious and generous in defeat, but seemed almost to have half expected it.
Marvellous to feel joy watching Villa again, thank you Mr Sherwood. And the nice thing is we've shown we are capable of doing a hell of a lot more than just making up the numbers in the final.

I recall reading a chapter in a book ( Saturday's Boys, I think it was called - must be 25 years old) where our very own Simon Inglis described how, in one of his first games as a journo, he asked Paisley a question which Paisley clearly didn't like and he tried to humiliate Inglis in front of the other, more sycophantic, journalists in the room. I hate Liverpool, I hate the myth that follows them, I hate a good proportion of their supporters and Sunday reinforced that feeling.

The only Liverpool supporters I saw on Saturday that were anything but decent were a small group of scallies on Wembley Way waving 'Don't Buy The Sun' posters in front of coppers faces and chanting 'murderers' at them. The police were remarkably tolerant, they were spoiling for a fight and it took a couple of Liverpool supporters to point out to them that it was South Yorkshire police who were the problem and not the Met.

Both Leeds and Liverpool were considered pioneers of rotated referee arguers which meant that there was always someone in the referee's face but few got booked. Leeds in particular pulled all kinds of other cheap tricks too. All pretty tame compared to the ruthless referee seeding Ferguson and Wenger practiced and the concerted aggression their players used, not through anger but as applied conditioning.

We had left my mother in the city centre and arranged to meet her at 6pm.Was around 7.30pm when finally got to meet her. I watched the highlights again on iplayer last night. I don't think I could tire from watching the second goal. Was it Benteke that did the backheel at Anfield a couple of seasons back too?
yes sir. To to an onrushing Weimann who belted it into the bottom corner. And that goal was as much about the total number of passes and movement as it was about the finish

Not sure if this has been mentioned but for the equaliser , CNZ does so well to move out the way. An assist almost.
He also did well to win the header to start the move for the winner.

He worked very hard in the SF last week. We now have the versatility to rotate between 3 genuine wide options and I can see us getting another winger in too in the summer. I think Sherwood likes to mix it up a bit and keep things fresh. It won't shock me at all to see Sinclair back in this weekend against Man City and N'Zog rested. And I purposely didn't mention Gil because he seems to be the odd man out here at the moment, which I hope corrects itself and he starts playing a role this season and into next.

Have just read this thread with glee over the week and all of you have just echoed my thoughts, nothing I can really add except THANK YOU to the team, manager, staff and fellow Villains for restoring us to where we belong. It was so good to share it with my eldest before he heads to Cambridge Uni and the land of Brian Green.
Once Premier League safety is hopefully secured I will be able to enjoy May 30th again with my lad.

Was at that 77 game where as a crew we held our own.
Do not want to turn this into a memories thread, I posted on that about my experience at the youth cup final a few years earlier.
I have always been, from my own experience totally oposed to what was the view that the spirit of shankly, were a bunch of lovely scalywags imboded by the Beatles, Jimmy Tarbuck and Cilla Black who never walked alone.
Anyone who went to Klanfield in the 70,s knows the reality.
Sorry about the rant, ignore as one who has had a couple of Friday night beers.

On the way out after the match, the Villa fans were waiting on the exit steps on the inside of the stand (Annie rd end) and a copper on a horse read us the riot act, he said if there was any singing, chanting, messing about on the way back to the coaches 'we were on our own'
I was in the group but needed to get back to Lime Street, that journey with about 20/30 other villa fans was like the Warriors film

They're ace!! And I reckon Coutinho's shot was heading in my direction, bloody miles wide. And I fancy Okore would've got the block in on Balotelli if he'd not spotted the flag. Weren't we good?!! Loved the way that Benteke, Delph and Grealish worked so closely together. Keep that up, and there's not a right back on the planet that'd stand a chance. If Cleverley or Westwood owned a pair of shooting boots, we'd terrify any defence. As I thought at the time, Charlie took the game to them. Bacuna and Richardson never looked like getting skinned, which is what I want from a full back. Job done, and we're ninety minutes from our Holy Grail.
Don't know if it's been discussed, but, in hindsight, would anybody have played Gabby? I liked our width on the day, and can't help but think we'd have been very narrow if he'd started. Think he'd have been a good option off the bench once Grealish or N'Zogbia tired.
