I certainly don't recall Liverpool players ganging up and bellowing in referees' faces on the rare occasion a decision went against them, or the likes of Bob Paisley bullying referees and members of the media.

Mind you, in the 1970s and 1980s, I don't remember anyone doing that.

Leeds?

I think they were more likely to kick the referee than insult him

Both Leeds and Liverpool were considered pioneers of rotated referee arguers which meant that there was always someone in the referee's face but few got booked. Leeds in particular pulled all kinds of other cheap tricks too. All pretty tame compared to the ruthless referee seeding Ferguson and Wenger practiced and the concerted aggression their players used, not through anger but as applied conditioning.

Have just read this thread with glee over the week and all of you have just echoed my thoughts, nothing I can really add except THANK YOU to the team, manager, staff and fellow Villains for restoring us to where we belong. It was so good to share it with my eldest before he heads to Cambridge Uni and the land of Brian Green.

Once Premier League safety is hopefully secured I will be able to enjoy May 30th again with my lad.

and me Walmley_Villa......hope he enjoys it down here..

Thanks Doc. He should be going to St Johns to study Economics. Time allowing he may also be working for Mr Green!

Anyone notice for the second goal when Jack picks the ball up after the back heel, the crowd all yell "shoot" - glad he didn't listen to you!!

Going back to that goal is it my imagination or is Delph's one touch drag back a thing of beauty not seen since Dragan Stokkovic v Spain in 1990 World Cup

The drag back and the stroking of the ball past Mignolet is sheer poetry. Instinctive.
...and fu**in' brilliant!

Not sure if this has been mentioned but for the equaliser , CNZ does so well to move out the way. An assist almost.

It reminded me of the chance he missed late on at Spurs the previous weekend.

He also did well to win the header to start the move for the winner.

Yep, you wouldn't put heading on his cv but he's done well. Big game player ?

Thought the same Chris.
In fact he challenges for two headers...probably with no chance of winning either but he puts the challenges in...
basic stuff but not the sort of thing we'd normally have expected Zog to do.
He did, we win the ball, we score.
Perfect example of how we won it and 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' lost it.

And obviously WE - the Villa fans - were more than just a 12th man!
