So, who do you want, and who do you think we'll get?
Luton at home will do me. We'll get a shit away draw though like Man City or Chelsea.
*Edited as I was stupid and put 3rd round in the title instead of 4th.*
-
I bet we got Ipswich at home.
-
I reckon we will win 2-1 too. Concede early, come back. Maybe even see some of the injured players back.
Changing the title after we have been so clever and witty is just cheating. Although in the subject of our posts your mistake remains lol...;-)
Think I am off to bed too PWS. Long day tomorrow fitting my kitchen.
-
*sigh* I'm going to bed! Gits the pair of ya!
-
They're leaving it late this year.
-

-
It'll be Norwich away, innit?
-

I edited again so as the world can see the glory of my error.
Happy kitchen fitting!
-
Is fourth round, so won't be Man Utd then?
-
Aldershot at home will do nicely
-
By the way it's at 3.30 on ITV.
-
My fingers are crossed for Chelsea away. They would be massively over confident and we would have a chance to regain some pride.
-
Aldershot
Macclesfield
Southend/Brentford
Luton
Oldham
Although a tentative nod in the direction of brian green.
-
Southend away.
A trip to the seaside in winter and revenge for 1971.
-
My fingers are crossed for Chelsea away. They would be massively over confident and we would have a chance to regain some pride.
Please let there be no free coaches if that happens. Anyway, I think it will be Millwall away. 530 kick off Sat or Monday night just to make it more unpleasant.

That game was a big turning point. The arrival of Jim Cumbes and the 6-0 thrashing of Oldham.
-
leeds/small heath at home. big game/bit of aggro either way. Plus if small heath get through if rumours are to be believed they'll probably struggle to field a team by the end of January with the firesale that looks likely.. Could be a record hammering inflicted by us for a change.
-
A double leg break for one of the Small Heathens. Very nasty for the kid.
That aside, SHA away please.
-
Anyone shit at home. Luton Town.
-
Would like - Macclesfield at home. Will get - Manure away.
-
Either a good draw at home or a ground i have'nt been too away. Luton or Macclesfield would be nice. It would'nt shock me if it was Norwich again though.
-
Not chelsea away please.
-
Macc away would be nice for me-just down the road.
-
We haven't played Blackburn in a while - I miss those guys.
Are Rapid Vienna still in?
-
My fingers are crossed for Chelsea away. They would be massively over confident and we would have a chance to regain some pride.
You're mental.
Home to Macclesfield please.
-
Anyone weaker at home, though to be fair, on current form, we would not beat anybody comfortably. I think we'll get Oldham away
-
Sheffield United please.
This time Lowton could be their ex-player that scores.
It's a nice walk from home and gives me chance to enjoy a beer or three.....
-
Luton or Macclesfield at home please.
-
Luton or Wednesday away as they're both grounds I've never been too and are quite easy by train for me.
-
Anyone really. As League cup has proved on the day we can beat anyone providing the attitude is right.
However we must stop going a goal down in cup ties.
-
Home to some shower of complete no hopers who we batter in to oblivion.
Blues it is then.
-
Spurs Away.
-
I think we will get Barnsley away next!
-
My fingers are crossed for Chelsea away. They would be massively over confident and we would have a chance to regain some pride.
You're mental.
Home to Macclesfield please.
I agree - lay off the breakfast Stella. Macclesfield, Aldershot, Luton at home please.
-

Maybe they'd ask for all the gate receipts. That would be hilarious.
-
Somebody crap at home, and for all the teams better than us (a growing number, seemingly) to play each other.
-
Anyone weaker at home, though to be fair, on current form, we would not beat anybody comfortably. I think we'll get Oldham away
Yes please. We owe those bastards one for 1990 and 1993.
Don't want Small Heath (if they beat Leeds), as it's a no-win fixture.
-
I want someone fun and shit away. We'll get Spurs though, who are neither of those things.
-
MK Dons away ..........
-
Anyone but Small Heath
-
Anyone but Small Heath
This.
-
Sheffield Weds away would be nice
-
There are teams we can beat in the FA Cup 4th round home or away and there are teams to play with preference to home or away tie
Mansfield/Liverpool away
Swansea home
Aldershot
Barnsley
Blackburn
Reading home
Leeds United/small heath
Luton
Macclesfield
Man City away - well capable of scoring 4 goals if pushed
Oldham
Sheff Utd
Norwich away
QPR/stripey filth home
Sheff Wed/MK Dons
Southend/Brentford
Derby
Brighton home
Hull/leyton O away
Huderrsfield
i think it ll be a team beginning with L M N or O as we begin with A though i would nt rule out derby or barnsley or a team beginning with H depends when we are drawn and which teams have already been selected as ties.
-
We are ball number 6
-
What channels the draw on??
-
ITV1
-
Home to Luton please. Our record against them isn't great, and i'm still getting over years of being teased in the mid 80s at school.
-
Anyone but Small Heath
I like a good local derby, provided we win.
-
Another lower league team at home please.
-
Anyone but Small Heath
I like a good local derby, provided we win.
Please Small Heath.
-
Anyone but Small Heath
I like a good local derby, provided we win.
Please Small Heath.
No thanks, fuck helping them stay in business by letting them have a cup final against us.
-
Not sure whether I should watch. Missed our last two draws and we got good ones.
-
Hopefull they're just taking our ball out of the oven.
-
Anyone at home - the lower placed team the better!
It will be manu or West Ham away though.
-
The Shit away please.
-
Be amusing to get McLeish in round 4. Oh...........
-
Stop with the adverts for the FA and get on with it.
-
It will be Swansea/Arsenal at home
-
Anyone at home - the lower placed team the better!
It will be manu or West Ham away though.
Hopefull they're just taking our ball out of the oven.
But also taking Man Utd's out the freezer.
-
It will be away at a top flight team. Probably an OK one. I will go for the winner of the Arsenal and Swansea replay.
-
Here we go. Come on bluenose, pull us out.
-
Well it won't be Luton.
-
Scouse with an easy one again.
-
Millwall away.
-
Millwall v Aston villa
-
Millwall away - not too bad!
-
Could be worse I suppose.................
-
I'm missing this, here's hoping for a lower league fixture
-
Millwall away then.
-
That'll do. Can walk there.
-
Winnable.
-
Milwall away. Blues were out next.
-
Milwall
-
Man city tough game at stoke
-
Fine by me.
-
Ooh
-
Great... City v United n
-
Chelsea bastards get some puke club
-
Jammy Chelsea gifts.
-
Millwall away - not too bad!
Not too bad? Could be a battlefield. Not looking forward to this at all.
-
Be interesting taking a couple of thousand down there!
Think we may need a replay to get through this one, they're in good form in the championship.
-
My fingers are crossed for Chelsea away. They would be massively over confident and we would have a chance to regain some pride.
Please let there be no free coaches if that happens. Anyway, I think it will be Millwall away. 530 kick off Sat or Monday night just to make it more unpleasant.

Well done. You have to win there without me as I won't be going to Millwall for all sorts of reasons.

On the pitch vs off the pitch mindsets. I think I will just about be safe here.

Off the pitch. They're not the best behaved supporters. At least it's a ground I haven't been to.
-
DC5 is a bloody soothsayer. BURN HIM!
-
I'm just catching up on Danny Baker's podcasts, Ugo Ehigou was one of yesterday's guests (tenuous Millwall Villa link time).
-
Never been to a game at the New Den with Villa.
-
Fuck off BBC
Millwall v Aston Villa? It's not one of the greats...
-
Be interesting taking a couple of thousand down there!

Lost thier top scorer to Leicester and could lose few more which will help us as they have been going well.Work with Milwall fans so this is one I really wouldn't want to lose
-
Millwall away - not too bad!

I wouldn't worry.
I've been to the New Den and its just full of chavs who think they're hard becuase they're supporting Milwall.
You get "bubbled" by the police if you are on the coach or train and with 4,000 Villa down there it will be alright.
-
I'll be able to get to this one. They'll be up for it and fancy an upset. I don't think we'll lose though. What will our allocation be I wonder?
-
Away fans are located at one end of the ground in the North Stand (usually in the upper tier only). Around 4,000 away fans can be accommodated in this end. Like the general improvement in football, a trip to Millwall is not as threatening as it once was. However, it is hardly a relaxing day out and I found the Den to be quite intimidating. The large police presence at the match I attended did nothing to dampen this feeling. I would advise that you exercise caution around the ground and not to wear club colours. The most popular method of travel for away fans to the Den, is by official club coach, or by train from London Bridge. The Police are well drilled in dealing with the coaches and supporters arriving by train. Once inside the ground you will generally find the stewards helpful & friendly.
-
Normally its upper tier only to stop the away fans being to close to the window lickers in the stand to your left backing up their unending gestures, however, we will likely get the lower tier as well.
-
Well they havent got Chris Wood anymore.....1-1
-
Fakin' Millwall!

This.
I covered Millwall for several years for the local paper.
The standard advice is not to drink in any of the local pubs, but these days there aren't any.
Get the northern line from Euston and change at London Bridge for South Bermondsey, it's one stop.
Afterwards you will get a Met escort back to the station.
-
I think we'll be looking for a pub some distance from the ground

Never been to a game at the New Den with Villa.
Hm. I was at the Old Den when Jimbo Cumbes was felled by a lump of concrete from one of those friendly, loveable East End Cockerney Millwall 'fans'....wasn't not the most welcoming place then. Perhaps they've now changed their ways, who knows....but I'm not holding my breath.
-
It is probably best to go by rail, as South Bermondsey Railway Station is only a few minutes walk from the ground. There is a direct walkway specifically built for away fans which takes you directly to the away end and back to the station afterwards. This has made the Police's job of keeping rival supporters apart so much more manageable. If your team brings a sizeable following, then an 'away fan' football special may be laid on from London Bridge. In these instances the police are well drilled in getting away fans into the ground from the special train and safely away afterwards. Although don't be surprised if you are held in the stadium for sometime after the final whistle, before being allowed back up the walkway to the station.
There are also two London Underground stations in the area, Surrey Quays & New Cross Gate, which are both on the East London Line. They are about 15-20 minutes walk away from the ground.
-
I think we'll be looking for a pub some distance from the ground
Somewhere like Paignton?
-
Can get a bit grim around London Bridge if anyone thinks they can lord it in the pubs. You never know how these games will turn out. A last minute penalty or sending off can turn the mood like the flick of a switch. Not a game to be taken lightly. Not wearing colours doesn't guarantee a safe passage.
-
Maybe the club can pay for coaches. The players could have whip round.
-
Proper naughty

I shall be wearing my Villa top AND jester hat.................
-
Doorstep sausage sandwiches with brown sauce at Damon's then walk to the ground.
-
View from the other side
Very winnable Villa are shit
Best draw in a while, and very winnable.
Winnable & what a shock that was Leeds getting a big team
We should sell out. Villa will take what ever allocation we will be allowed to give em
At this stage of the seasion we're doing okay. Trouble is, if they get the whole end, the resulting mayhem will end up with ground closure for the rest of the season!

You more likely be lanced by a £4 ciabatta around London Bridge nowadays. Borough Market has turned it into an overpriced tourist trap.

I was thinking more like Birmingham.
-
Have we really not played these in any competition since 1990?
link (http://www.11v11.com/teams/aston-villa/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Millwall)
-
Liam Trotter should be off by the time we play them too. Off to Leicester apparently.
-
I remember playing them in the FA Cup in the mid 80's I think. Drew at home in front of about 11,000 and lost the replay IIRC.
-
Doorstep sausage sandwiches with brown sauce at Damon's then walk to the ground.
Thanks for the invite ;)

Haven't we been linked with one of their star players a lot recently?

Well :) its a team beginning with M.
However they are a decent outfit though trotter was left out yester could be on his way. I like their midfield and will be a very touch encounter for the less experienced players. Maybe including Shane Lowry who is part of their defence. Lets see how we deal with bradford and providing we get thru that to final i think we can concentrate on league and wud nt be surprised if we lost this one. I hope we sign a few players so i can revise my opinion
-

Very good.
-
We played them in the league under Sir Graham. What was it like then?
-
I've never been away to Millwall, but I did go to the 1999 Wigan v Millwall Autowindscreens final. They really are a horrible bunch of scrotes.
-
We played them in the league under Sir Graham. What was it like then?
Not pretty
-
I remember that great goal by Rambo Mcinally against them in the 80s in the cup- what a goal!
-
I sat in what was still called the Witton Lane stand at that home Jan 86 cup game. Sunny, cold day. Balti afterwards. I also braved the league ties at the old Den in the late 80s, when I lived near Brixton. Amazed it is all so long ago!
-

Luckily London Bridge station itself has been redeveloped and is not the labyrinthine rat-hole it used to be.
-
Been to Millwall once - when we lost 2-1 under SGT in 1990. Took my now wife. She's told the tale a few times...
-
Looking at the rest of the draw, we could well be on ITV or ESPN. No standout ties and telly twats would love to see South London's most famous thugs giantkill Villa.
-
If anyone is worried about wearing colours, just tell anyone that asks that you're a West Aaaam fan. Then you should be fine.
-
Could be worse i guess. Hopefully in a months time things will have improved league form wise that we can go into it with a bit less pressure on us.
-
Listening to it on the radio in the car and when it was read out I thought that we had the home leg. When I heard Leeds / Birmingham after it I was fistpumping the air.
You could imagine the disappointment when I realized it was Millwall away. :'(
-
Us, Stoke v Man City, Leeds/small heath v Spurs seem the obvious ones, maybe Macclesfield as well. How many live games do they show?
-

Fantastic site!!

2 on each channel i think.
-
I'm in two minds about this. On the one hand it's dead close; on the other it sounds like a throwback nightmare.

Yes, 5 this weekend. Maybe less after 3rd round?
-

Just wear the protective jester hat.
-
I think I'll have to go to this. I've never been before but I'll treat it like a trip to the sty so no colours etc and hopefully that'll be enough.
-
The new Den is safer than the old Den, because it is close to the train station and well patrolled by police. The old Den existed in more thuggish times and inolved nervous walks to and from Queens Road Peckham station.
-
Anybody know when the game is? Quite fancy arranging a trip over and seeing the game, a curry and a pint or two.
I've been to the Old Den in 88 and had no problems. The police had everything in hand. I wouldn't expect any problems down there unless people start acting like dicks but that's pretty much the same everywhere.
I reckon we'll take more than the 167 the knuckledraggers took there last season.
-

And high-visibility Villa shirt? Righto.
-
Rudy, it's the weekend of the 26th.
-
Rudy, it's the weekend of the 26th.
My son's birthday. Oh well, I'll have to wait for our 5th round game.
-
No chance of them showing this on TV IMO. Neither us or Millwall are fashionable enough.
-
They might fancy it for a shock.
-
I have been to the New Den plenty of times with Brighton. There is never any trouble at all, probably the safest away game you could go to.
-
Every tracksuit wearing chav will be going to Millwall for this game to have a pop at the Villa. If they give us the whole end, upper and lower tiers then the police will have to be very alert to prevent trouble.
Bloody horrible bunch of tossers and glad i will not be there.
-
Well it could have been worse, but I think that we will be ok.
-
Every tracksuit wearing chav will be going to Millwall for this game to have a pop at the Villa.
Really?
-
Can't say I am looking forward to it but I'll be there with my bro. As others have said, no colours and keep your voice down and you'll be fine. The coppers down there have it sewn up these days so it should be fine.
-
Villa, dare I say it, are not much of a draw for the Millwall hooligan element.
Having said that, the worst trouble I remember near the New Den was when Forest played there.
-
When i woke up this morning and saw the thread about the draw i wanted any club closest to Kent. Fuck me!!
-
The difference with the old Den was that there was no segregation. That area behind the goal may have got a bit more secure towards the end but anyone thinking they could escape the bedlam in the seats could easily get a rude awakening.
The younger ones amongst us, especially, would be advised to think carefully how they go to this game. Going by car, for example, might be a bit dodgy, especially after the game. Such people will stick out like a sore thumb as they emerge from our end while all the coach / train people are being looked after.
I haven't been to the new ground as the first team haven't played there (unless they sneaked in a friendly sometime) so haven't had first hand experience of the new security measures such as the walkway etc. The very thought of the fixture brings back memories of a particularly horrible place where we had the misfortune to go several times.
-
Tough game this will be!hopefully have enough to at least get a draw and them beat them back at home!

Your correct been to the old Millwall, drink outside the area, keep quiet and you should be fine.
-
DC5, you really are exaggerating this one.
I have been to the New Den by car on more than one occassion. You do have to walk out of a cul-de-sac under the railway bridge, but the police are always over the top out in force etc that you barely see anything but a few chavs doing their best to look moody.
Its a rough area, so your biggest concern by car is where to park without it getting nicked.
If we were West Ham or Leeds, you may have a point.
Football is sanitized everywhere these days and while going to the New Den isn't quite the wet wipe exprience of Stamford Bridge, its still a million miles away from the Old Den.
-
Amusing to see the same people getting themselves in a tizz as they did after the 3rd round draw when Leeds and Small Heath drew each other, despite the fact that they play one another twice a season anyway, Leeds struggle to get 10k through the doors for Cup games against unfashionable opposition, and SHA rarely take more than 1000 fans there every season. Indeed, I believe they took less than 800 yesterday.
Onto Millwall. 4000 Villa fans, a covered and well-policed walkway from the station to the away end, a stand-alone end that doesn't need to be shared with Millwall fans, and the opportunity to drink wherever you like in central London. Much ado about nothing and the collective bed-wetting is just.....bizarre.
-
Link below is from the scum game there last year. Gives a bit of an idea what its like. Once you leave London Bridge on the train, you probably won't even come close to a Millwall fan there and back. Straight off the platform, through the gates, along the covered walkway, straight to the turnstiles. At no time are you out in the streets around the ground. Certainty to be kept in after for a while though.

I am merely passing a recommendation to younger ones to watch what they are doing. Those who were around in earlier days will have a bit more nous.
-
It takes a special kind of hardman to offer somebody out who is standing twenty yards away, thirty foot up in the air with no access and with the added security of the Met too.
What a bunch of morons.

Started early today have we?

When Liverpool played there, those same hardmen gave it the big one, mocked the 96 and proceeded to get battered by some irate Scousers.
-
Link below is from the scum game there last year.
As good a rebuttal of 'intelligent design' as I have ever seen.

It was one of the most gutted I've been at Villa Park, but do they really still sing about an equaliser from Stern John?
-
Could have been worse, no reason why we can't turn them over.
-
There really is no need to shit it about this one. I will be going by train, slurping in Central London and don't expect grief.
-
I can't say it's a ground i've ever really fancied going to but judging by what people are saying, it should be ok. Quite looking forward to it now actually.
-
Wish I could make it :(
-
New ground for me. Saw us play at the old ground 7 times.
Expecting tickets to be issued in a similar manner as for Bradford.
-

Absolutely.
-
The New Den is a doddle, nothing like the days of avoiding speaking to cockney Sergio Tacchini wearing hoodlums who asked the time at every street corner waiting to catch a bit of a Brummie accent & even that was made up nonsense.
Seriously, you'll have more trouble finding a skinny cappuccino than finding bother between the station & the ground in SE16.
-
Although I might nip South of the river early doors to get one of these sausage sarnies at Damon's gaff.
-
Millwall away - not too bad!
Not too bad? Could be a battlefield. Not looking forward to this at all.
I wouldn't worry.
I've been to the New Den and its just full of chavs who think they're hard becuase they're supporting Milwall.
You get "bubbled" by the police if you are on the coach or train and with 4,000 Villa down there it will be alright.
This.
I covered Millwall for several years for the local paper.
The standard advice is not to drink in any of the local pubs, but these days there aren't any.
Get the northern line from Euston and change at London Bridge for South Bermondsey, it's one stop.
Afterwards you will get a Met escort back to the station.
How do the old bill stop you mixing with the home fans at South Bermondsey?
-
That'll do. Can walk there.
Same for me!
-
nah there will be some bother owwight, the most likely ambush London Bridge Station, this is a big opportunity for the old firm
-
I've been to the New Den a few times with Watford. Watford were only given the top tier and the away fans remain quite far away from Millwall fans. Not an ounce of trouble and plenty of police presence.
There are plenty of places to drink centrally in London before training it from London Bridge to the station. Once at South Bermondsey, there is a rat run from the station that takes you (the long way) straight to the away end in about 5 mins.

You dont say they actually got Pubs in that London, well I never :-[
-
We played them in the league under Sir Graham. What was it like then?
Pretty intimidating. We drove to the ground and were allowed to park right outside the away end. This was the old Den which was a horrible place. Didn't see any trouble, may have been a different story if Millwall hadn't won the game .
-
I should have some intel nearer the time if they are planning anything as work brings me into contact with one of the leaders of the Old school Bushwhacker firm. They still turn out for West Ham, Leeds etc but will have to see what they'll do about 4000 Villa on "their manor"
-
If its a night match (including Sat 1730) I imagine we will only take the Upper Tier, in the first instance.
-
Hopefully it will stay as Saturday 3pm. Dave do you think it will be moved for tv ?
Surely they won't want to show us ?
-
I haven't really studied the rest of the draw yet.
-
Quite a few more appealing games for TV I think -
Norwich v Luton
Oldham v Liverpool
Leeds/SHA v Spurs
Brighton v Arsenal
Stoke v Ci£y
Man Ure v Fulham / Blackpool
Brentford v Chelsea
-
I can't see any tv executive desperate to screen Millwall/Villa. Even if Millwall beat us, it will be a bit `so what?' to most armchair footie fans.
-
I read recently that it's 12 years since a Manchester United FA Cup game that wasn't televised.

Don't think it's that many, though I heard it was around 2005 and they've had 39 consecutive tv games in the FA Cup

38 of them against us.
-
I suspect one of our/Man Ure's matches will be moved to the Sunday in case West Ham get through. Police won't want Millwall and West Ham at home on the same day.

-
Will it be 2 televised games on Saturday, 2 on Sunday and 1 on the Monday night again ?
If its just 5 TV games I doubt Millwall v Villa will be one so should be Saturday 3pm unless the Met police decide otherwise ??

Or on saturday week?
Millwall and West Ham aren't even that close together. Best part of an hour's journey by public transport.
-
They don't seem to steamed up about it on Vital Millwall forum. Common opinion is there'd be a 12-14000 crowd, with the Police only letting us have the top tier, around 2000. Also, fairly positive about us, massive club etc.

The vast majority of Millwall supporters are just like the rest of us. There is a hard core of very rough buggers but they are getting on a bit and aren't that interested in the likes of Villa.

Fair enough! Ignore me then. Thought they were pretty close seeing as they hate each other so much. Not overly familiar with that side of Landan.
-
They also have some of the fattest supporters you will see anywhere.
-
Most of the Millwall "boys" are in their late 40's early 50's now. Still a force to be reckoned with mind you.
-
Millwall have a banning order ratio of 9.23 per 1000 fans. They will all be at the Cop Shop at 3pm on a Saturday.
-
1.9 miles from my front door. Excellent draw.
-
Fattest? You haven't been to Smethwick lately then...
-
1.9 miles from my front door. Excellent draw.
How will you get there with the streets teeming with fat, watchless, pyjama-wearing cut-throats on every corner checking for cod Cockerney accents?
-
I can't wait. I've been practising my proper cockney walk (courtesy of Micky Flanaghan) for a while now. So I will be going dressed and rseady like a Peaky Blinder with a proper cockney walk.

Lets hope the game is not on a Sunday!
-
I wonder if Harry the Dog's still giving it large with the F Troop, whilst his crew kick the shit out of rival fans wearing their surgical masks.
-
Are they hard down in Millwall then? :)

It's partly because Millwall play in New Cross but Millwall itself is on the Isle of Dogs north of the river, nearer to West Ham territory.
-
Part 1 of the Panorama documentary about Millwall.
-
My pal drove down to Millwall for the play off game when they played Blues, he was herded onto the train after the game despite his protestations and had to go back for what was left of it the day after.
I'm sure one day I'll stop finding it funny.
-
It's a great way to travel for free on the train, I guess.
-
Not a bad draw. If we go down then these are the games that we have to win week in week out. So, no harm in seeing how we cope now. If we win then we know we're still a level above a decent Championship team.
-

Cup games are meaningless compared to league games. When we lost at Doncaster did it mean we would have struggled in Division 3? Would Arsenal struggle in Division 4? Would Wolves struggle in the Conference as they lost at Luton? Actually, scrub that last one, they might.
-
That video is fcuking brilliant...haven't seen it for years. I wonder how many of those lads will be present on the 26th? Billy Plummer? Harry the Dog? Priceless

It did trigger my memory of that programme, Ken.

Fantastic draw. Can't wait. Another new ground, another great day out! This is what the cups all about!
This season we've certainly had some great away days. And this is between WBA away and Everton away. Very excited!
-
Fascinating viewing that. i recall there was a documentary on them in the 90s/00s which was frightening - 40 yr old skinheads in dungarees threatening the camera crew - but can't seem to find it on YouTube
-
I'm looking forward to the forthcoming Sunday Mercury article predicting a football hooligan apocalypse. They'll probably use those YouTube clips as their research.

Knowing the mercury it'll be the Villa going down to cause trouble.
-
So a barbecue lunch on Damon's lawn pre-match it is then, yeah? He was the first person I started to follow when I signed-up to Twitter yesterday, the least he can do is furnish a few fatted pigs' trotters.
-

Pretty intimidating. We drove to the ground and were allowed to park right outside the away end. This was the old Den which was a horrible place. Didn't see any trouble, may have been a different story if Millwall hadn't won the game .
They lined all the Villa up outside New Cross Gate station complete with riot vans, cavalry and alsations, a coach load of Japanese tourists stopped opposite and they all leapt to the windows to take photos. Theres probably pictures of our away support at Millwall to this day in a photograph album somewhere in Tokyo. Five minutes later kids were chucking milk bottles at us as we waited on the platform.
-
Didn't actually realise The Den is so near to Old Kent Road. That'll do me, 21 goes straight there from my house. I thought it might be like Palace, one of those tricky grounds to get to. As for their lot, they aren't what they were obviously but then all fans have evolved since the 70's/80's. They are still a tough bunch by todays standards though and one of the few sets of fans (perhaps the only set) that can out-do the Sty inbreds in sheer hooliganism and thuggery. Apparentely, if you arrive by tube then you should be fine as you will receive a heavier police escort then the Queen probably would. If you are arriving by alternative means then try to be as modest as possible.
-
Posted previously on Memories thread, First away game back in div 2.
Travelled down on Roscoes coach, driver would note go closer than Marble Arch.
When we got to the ground The Villa special train had been greeted by the locals and most visitors had scattered.
Only ground I have ever seen Knives brandished.
After making various stands around the ground, at half time we jumped onto the pitch from the seats.
All around ground other Villa fans joined us.
The police herded us all together and gave us a mounted escort back to the station, guessing by the number of Millwall fans who joined us for the walk , there could hardly of been anyone left in the ground.
I asked a copper " what would happen if they broke through the cordon " he said " your facked, you shouldnave came" Jolly old Plod he was.
At the station, they went on to the other platform, got off at the end and charged up onto our side, a combination of the train arriving, rearguard action from us and police intervention meant that we escaped unscathed.
Having been to most grounds in the then, 1st, 2nd and 3rd div has to be the scariest.
-
That Special was not only greeted by the locals but some of them were onboard it before it had stopped in the platform. A great deal of those on it decided to catch the first train back into London. An Evening Mail reporter was on the train so it got a good write up on the Monday morning.
-
Looking forward to this - closest ground to my house. Go past it every day on the way to work.
Inside the ground and in the area outside the stadium you're probably a safe as at any ground in the country, according to my Millwall supporting neighbour. You don't want to be drawing too much attention to yourself ("taking liberties", as he describes it) once you're away from the ground though.
They do have more than their fair share of unreconstructed nut-cases still. Wouldn't expect too much "respect" from them for the Stan ovation
Drink anywhere in Central london and then get the Northern Line or Jubilee Line into London Bridge.
-
Best place for a champagne barbecue would be the Aldi car park on the Old Kent Road. It's a lovely spot
-
I prefer the al-fresco dining in the car park of the waste incineration plant next door to the ground.
-
I'll dust off my body armour and make sure my tazer's fully charged. A helmet for the inevitable head kicking might come in handy too.
Still...It's very winnable. We're having a little bit of luck with our draws in the cups so far (aside from Man City).

Do Millwall have many/any black fans? They seem to really struggle getting rid of the racist element judging from the amount of players who complain about being abused there.
-
I am sure i read somewhere once that the first time they played behind closed dorrs due to previous crowd trouble was 1905!!! Is it close proximity to the docks that creates the hooligans or what?
-
This thread is baffling me a little bit. Millwall is a hotbed of cockney rioting in the same way that Carnaby Street is the nexus of Swingin' London.

Does anyone know when ITV will announce their TV games for the 4th Round?
We want to get our train booked while its reasonable but knowing my luck, we'll have the time re-arranged.

Crystal Palace might be playing Man City at home which would put a big strain on London Bridge station so there's a chance one of the games could be changed?

My father in law was hospitalised by Millwall fans in the late 60s.
-
I watched part IV of that Panorama documentary which is hilarious and talks about a visit to Bristol Rovers in which most Millwall fans travelled by train but the 'F-Troop' chartered a coach. Later on it reported that F-Troop hadn't made the game as their coach had broken down. Harry the Dog however hitched a lift and tried a one man suicide attack on the Rovers 'End'. Made me laugh!
-
Go to Millwall, I guarantee you'll either be mugged or not appreciated. Catch the train to London, stopping at Rejection, Disappointment, Backstabbing Central and Shattered Dreams Parkway.

No, not at all. He was just getting a bit "Football Factory" if you get my meaning. Which looks silly from anyone of any age.

There's an apocryphal tale of an Australian student who moved to New Cross and decided to check out his surroundings. He went into a local pub not knowing Millwall's reputation nor that they were at home that day, and walked up to the bar. Unfortunately he bumped into someone and knocked their drink on the floor.
The aggrieved party turned to him and snarled, "Watch yerself, I'm Harry the Dog," to which the Aussie smiled and replied, "And I'm Larry the Lamb. Pleased to meet you."
Harry burst out laughing and the student was on free drinks all day.
-
I was having a pint in the Bunch of Grapes near London Bridge station a few Saturdays back and a bunch of their Neanderthal fans walked in and started harrassing everyone. They were targetting blokes who were obviously in there with just their wives or girlfriends and trying to get a rise out of them.
Fortunately they got bored after about 10 minutes and left without even buying a drink. Last heard walking down St Thomas Street singing "no-one likes us, we don't care".
Made me feel ashamed to be a football fan.

I found the documentary hilarious - especially the bloke working in the nursery and being interviewed on the premises. How did he keep his job?! And the Govn directive that coaches had to leave city centres at midnight! It was lamost like a Reeves and Mortimer spoof.
Wasn't there some trouble at VP a couple of years back when the reserves/academy teams met?

They had a few in the Middle Trinity who had come in a minibus. The same minibus was touring the area quite a while after the game and someone got attacked, I think. In the ground, they were noisy and boorish. Under the stand by the pie counter there were the vilest women you have ever seen with their offspring. I think it only stood out as they were mixed in with the rest of us instead of being stuck in another part of the ground when they would have just looked like normal away fans.

It's a self-feeding frenzy and at times makes us all look silly.

If Millwall is still the same dangerous intimidating place it was, then Villa are still Champions of Europe. Things have moved on for all of us.
A more than winnable game, and progression to the 5th round.

So based on their average attendance, about 9-10,000 their hardcore hooligan element is 92-93 people then with the hangers on a couple of hundred. Still a lot in this day and age.

Could be a bit tight time wise, as game'll finish 2140 ish, and its an absolute certainty that we'll be kept in for quite a while. Can't remember which team it was, but if there's a fair few away fans, it could be 30-45 mins.

45 mins locked in them police shepard you to train station, pretty certain it will be alright. Last train is at 23 30 so have 2 hours after the game
-
Yeh, 2330 should be do-able. There's a 2330 Fridays only from Euston too. Going down on 1433 from New Street and back on 2330 is £15.50 rtn at the mo.

14 54 from New Street to Euston is 6 quid adult. 7.50 for the return journey at 23 30. Just got to buy 2 singles, good price imo

I know we're all a bit down at the moment and money is tight but if can take support there like we had last night we should just go for it and have a good laugh, the chances of getting 4000 are extremely slim but the thought of it make me excited, and anyone that knows me know i don't do excited.

According to a Millwall forum it's been moved by the police to avoid clashing with a march on the Saturday. Not sure what march, EDL twats maybe?
They couldn't move it to the Sunday as we are playing Newcastle on Tuesday after.

70 hours after the second leg of the semi - who's agreed to this ? Surely If it can't be on Sat for whatever reason the Newastle game on 29th could be moved - how many times do we move to accommodate the Europa League
According to a Millwall forum it's been moved by the police to avoid clashing with a march on the Saturday. Not sure what march, EDL twats maybe?
They couldn't move it to the Sunday as we are playing Newcastle on Tuesday after.

Can't you ask them to move it to Friday night at 19:45?

Assuming the club monitors these sites for the sake of supporter relations, then maybe they can provide an answer as to why a midweek league game immediately after an FA Cup round WASN'T originally scheduled for the Wednesday so that whatever happened in the FA Cup, fans would not be messed about.
There was always the chance of either Villa or our opponents being involved in a live TV game on the Sunday. If we've agreed to play Millwall on Friday rather than mess 30,000 or so fans around on the Tuesday then that's the right decision, but what if Newcastle had beaten Brighton and their home tie with Arsenal or Swansea and had been chosen for TV on Sunday? We all know that the league game would have been put back 24 hours and it would have been tough shit for those fans who book nights off work for games way in advance.
A bit of foresight and sensible planning back in June could have accounted for all options by scheduling Newcastle for Wednesday. The most annoying thing is that there are people picking up a salary for making these decisions.
-
Well its probably saved me £100 so I'm fine.
-
The way things are, having the game hidden away on a Friday night is probably a good thing.
-

Paul Lambert prefers Tuesday games.

Will this mean TV might pick it up?
-
Friday night football then we'll have to listen to Danny Baker gloating about their 4-0 win just a few hours later...
-
Will this mean TV might pick it up?
No. They have already sorted their games, it's on the FA website.

The coverage looks really quite shit, the only one that looks promising is Brentford or Southend v Chelsea

If this tie is not on TV then there is absolutely NO justification for it not to be played during the day at the weekend

How can they possibly think that a premier league side playing away at Milwall on friday night could be the safest option?
-
Train booked. £13.50 return. Bargain
-
I wasn't going to bother posting my experience of the New Den as it was 10 years ago, but since our game has been moved to a Friday night it is now a bit more relevant. I went there with Wolves on a Friday night towards the end of the season in 2002. It was a big game as both teams were in or around the play-off places, so tensions were high.
Getting to the ground was OK - train from London Bridge and lots of police all along the short walk to the stadium so not much potential for trouble. Wolves brought a decent following - the upper tier was sold out and they had the middle of the lower tier too. I got the sense that some Millwall fans consider it as some kind of affront or challenge when an away team has fans in the lower tier.
The corner sections of the lower tier had tarpaulins tied across them to prevent fans moving towards the corners, presumably to keep them out of missile range of the Millwall fans. On both sides of the ground the Millwall fans who had chosen to position themselves as close as possible to the away fans were exactly what you'd expect - foul, nose-like urchins who spent the entire 90 minutes baiting the away fans.
Anyway if I remember correctly Millwall won 1-0, which you might expect would lead to a quietish time afterwards ... far from it! The Wolves fans were kept in a pen just behind the away end for what seemed like an eternity. There was a helicopter overhead and you could tell something was going on. A few Wolves fans were giving it the 'let us out' bit to the police but I didn't feel too many were enthusiastic to be let out. Eventually the gates opened and we were walked back towards the station with one of the biggest police escorts I've seen - riot police, mounted police and police vans. Every side street we passed was full of Millwall fans battling with the police trying to get at us. I have to say it was quite intimidating and one of those occasions where I'm not ashamed to admit I was very glad of the police presence.
We did make it back to the station unscathed but I dread to think what would have happened if the Met's finest had not been there in such numbers. It was only a few weeks later that Blues were there in the play-offs and that time the Millwall fans really did go mad after the game.
I've also been to the New Den when they played West Ham but that one didn't seem anywhere near as intimidating, probably as I was in the home end and it was on a Sunday morning rather than a Friday night.
My advice to those travelling to this one would be to take the train from London Bridge and stay with the crowd. I wouldn't fancy making my way back to a car in a small group as they are as bad as the noses for picking on stragglers.
-
How many people do you think will go down on the train?
-
Looks like it could be a grim night on a number of levels. What allocation do we have?
-

Nothing on OS yet, Millwall have announced prices and they have to be agreed with Villa so I'm pretty certain we have details

I've seen a video somewhere of a Portsmouth fan getting the shit kicked out of him by a load of Millwall fans (very brave) as he was walking back to his car, not sure how they knew but sound advice not to park close to the ground.
-
How many people do you think will go down on the train?
Im still considering it, I feel guilty I didn't go last night as my son has a 100% away record with Villa and he probably would've made the difference :)

Does he? He was asked at the forum by Dcf why we played our midweek games on a Tuesday and Lambert had no idea.

That is exactly what I put, particularly in respect of young people. At places like this, you could be outside the ground bedecked top to toe in Millwall colours and they would still know you were Villa. I think the train is safer now from what I have heard but a Friday night makes this one to think about. Me? I am going by coach.
-
I was on my way home from work on the Friday night of the SHA play off game with Millwall. Got to euston about 430pm and there was a big police prescense. Alsatians Etc and OB with sticks and video cameras . It was then I saw a hoard heading up into the station, it was the Zulus arrived into London ready for Millwall .
They were a rather unpretty site, can only imagine the mayhem later that night. I believe it ended up a full scale riot around New Cross area.
-
How can they possibly think that a premier league side playing away at Milwall on friday night could be the safest option?
Coinciding with the London Friday night rush hour.
-
Speaking as a relatively young man I've never had the pleasure of watching us play Millwall so quite fancy going.
-
Friday? For fucks sake. I won't be back from being threatened with being shot at in South Armagh until the Friday evening.
-
I take it that it's been moved to Friday for espn?

Or as several bluenoses have suggested at work today, "to get you ready for championship football next season huh huh huh snigger snigger".
-

Apparently it's because of a demonstration at Lewisham hospital on the Saturday.

Espn have shown Friday night cup ties before so with this being moved I guess there's a chance they may decide to show the game anyway , what is the demonstration in aid of , nurses or hospital cuts?
-
They may well do then, eastie. I've no idea what the demonstration is about.
-
We'll do well to sell 1,000 now it's been moved and after last night
-

I doubt it, they can only show an agreed number of games and they have already identified those.
-
Just googled and its about opposing the closure of the hospital.

I'm assuming the Friday tie is instead of having a Monday tie? I think they had Friday ties last year didn't they?
-
You'd think the selfish bastards could have their protest during the week. We've got a football match to play here.
-
I'll be going and will be meeting up with a few Millwall supporting mates probably only after the game. Should be interesting attempting to meet up with them.
-
There is some pretty severe weather coming at the end of the month so game could be off anyway

Which 3 games have they chosen? Thought this would have been one of the 5 televised ones.

Might have known , just checked man city, man utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, spurs !
-
On the bright side, we don't have to worry about another nationally broadcast embarrassing defeat.
-

It's almost like they aren't even interested in shocks anymore. I thought that was what the cup was all about?

Was planning to do the same but now have an excuse not to go. They were looking into security arrangements - genuinely.

Just depends where we arrange, its pretty likely I'll have no choice but to go back to London Bridge. So either round there or on matchdays and fridays actually they usually drink in a pub in Elephant & Castle, so that will be most likely. I'll be stopping at one of their houses in Rotherhithe so worse case scenario will heading back the other way.

With respect, it's changed a hell of a lot there since then. From the station at South Bermondsy away fans walk through a cage straight into the ground. As a Leeds supporting friend said to me, it's so well policed down there now you won't even see a Millwall fan if you go by train or coach until you're in the ground. If you're seeking the adrenalin rush you used to get by going there he suggests zip-wiring in from the top of The Shard!

Watch Question Time tonight - from Goldsmiths College up the road in New Cross. I expect Lewisham hospital to be mentioned
Anyway, back on topic......

You in Ladywell then? I might get the same train as you.
-
Live about 200 yards from Ladywell Station.
Although I don't go into Charing Cross from Ladywell any more, I get the DLR to Canary Wharf. I used to see a fella on the Ladywell train with a Villa rucksack, going to Cannon Street. That you?
-
Now that it's a Friday night game I won't be walking to the ground. I really hope there isn't any trouble but I wouldn't rule it out now. Frankly a `Night Of Shame At The Den' is the last thing our season needs.

What a sodding joke picking the Man U one is. At home? Against Fulham or Blackpool? Ooh the excitement. If West Ham win at least it might be more competitive but hardly a thrilling prospect either.

I'm sure it was deal done with the FA to stop manu leaving the FA Cup again that all their ties have to be on TV.

Glad it's not you because I did try to strike up a conversation with him once and he was a miserable twat. It was the morning after the Spurs debacle last season. He hadn't been to the game and he hadn't watched it on Sky. Felt like taking his ruck sack off him and telling him he didn't deserve it....

The game being on a Friday has put paid to me going unfortunatley. Whoever dreamt up football on a Friday night ought to be threatened with a dead fish.

Fair enough, a lot can change in ten years. Sounds like more reason than ever to travel by train though.

Yes but they can drone on about the romance of the Cup and how famous Fulham and Blackpool are with Johnny Haynes and Stanley Matthews. Great players, legends no doubt, but Fulham and Blackpool have not won a great deal between them in over 100 years of football.

FYI millwall are charging home fans £20/£25 and a fiver for kids for the cup tie (less than league prices).

The next 3 soton., bradford, milwall say alot about where we are goin

there just isnt one, i thought maybe MU v Norwich or WBA at Old Trafford but you know that they would still have it on because of the massive viewing audience Man Utd get.

I'd argue that at home against Fulham or Blackpool isn't a draw. It's a routine home win. They wouldn't show City or Chelsea or Arsenal at home against those opponents. I'm fully aware of the reasons why they do show it but it's just wrong.

To us yes, but to there big army of armchair fans its the best decision. Plus if its Fulham they average around 22,000 home fans and I'd say roughly 800 away fans per game. There'd likely be a big viewing audiance from them too (should they get through)

That's the problem though, their big army of armchair fans, and shit like this only makes them get bigger. I'm not saying we should be on instead but televising every single FA Cup game Man U play, regardless of any criteria other than loads of c**ts who think they are fans of them want to watch it, perpetuates the myth that English football's about them and that everyone else is just there to play them. ITV, Sky, BBC, whoever it is should be ashamed. We should all try and ignore the odious f**kers as much as possible and hope they go away.

South East London isn't it - at least that is where the Docklands light railway is.
-
Millwall is on the Isle of Dogs in East London, but Millwall FC no longer play there. They play in South Bermondsey in South-East London (according to Wiki).
-
You can see the ground when they play the theme tune to East Enders. Just to the left of the railway junction below the loop in the river at the Isle of Dogs.
-
Bloody hell Jon. I thought I was the only sad git who'd spotted that!. You can see Charlton just below the Thames barrier to the left, Olympic stadium north of the river and West Ham across to the right of that. Haven't been quick enough to spot Orient yet but i'm working on it!
-
Also visible to your left as you pull into London Bridge station from the south. It's less south east London than inner city. A bit like calling Villa north Birmingham.
-
Definite "Zone of transition" territory for the geographers out there.

There may be some on here who remember playing them in the 70's, believe me they will remember us.
For all the tales about visits to Cold Blow Lane (and mostly true) what about when they came up here?
Was it the League Cup Quarter Final we beat then 2-0 and then ran them ragged round Witton and Aston in their stupid white caps...
-
Apparently we've got 2,000 tickets. Police stopped us taking the lower tier. £20 adults.
Don't blame me if this info is wrong, just passing on what I heard.

Correct - League Cup Q/F in December 1976. A few frank exchanges of opinion were made after the final whistle.

Spot on luton. Only problem is some of their older lads still believe it! Same as many I don't think there will be much trouble as the Police down there are used to this - they manage Leeds/Blues etc visiting.
I to have tales of "bumping into" Millwall but it is all myth-mongering and not for this thead.

Its not the older lads its the rowdy kids in the dockers who give it large. Their elders hate the younger lot. The only trouble they have had all season is with Charlton and Leeds and thats because South Bermondsay station was closed

I was told it was going to be closed for us as well, had a quick look but couldn't see anything about it.

Charlton kicking off!?
If ever there was a friendly place that is it.
Just goes to show. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Blimey, how wound up do they get when the opposition get a throw-in?

Actually found that quite funny. Wel

Not the same anymore! On the whole there a nice club but not when it comes to Palace and Millwall

I was 11. My Dad took me and my mate in the enclosure seats. I always wanted to be next to the tunnel back then.
There were, I think, 3, maybe 4 Millwall sat in front of us who would not swearing. My Dad asked them to stop and when they wouldn't he smacked the biggest one. I seem to remember a few other Villa helping my Dad, then the Millwall blokes left.

When/how do we find out about this mystical train that takes us from London Bridge to South Bermondsey?
There are lots of trains that run from London Bridge to Sarf of the River.
Look on the departure boards in the main station concourse for trains to East Croyden, they run pretty regulary but maybe a bit busy as its a Friday around rush hour
And you could take in a ground level view of the shard building as it is right above London Bridge Station

Apparently there's a "special train" for away supporters that the OB put on to get everyone there together. I'm capable of searching for run of the mill trains.

Got our match tickets this morning.
Got mine about 30 mins ago from Goughie. Despite what the OS says there is just one ticket per client reference and the woman was in a right arse about it when she had to ask her someone else.
-
The train from LB to SB is overground so you won't find it on the underground map
-
Do people think we will sell out the 2,000 tickets? I really fancy this one but don't have a season ticket.
-
I'd say we'll take about 15 - 1800
-
If they're putting on a special train for away supporters what about those of us who are London-based?
Must we brave the streets of rage?
-
Just to be clear, is there a special train that the police put on that isn't listed on the national rail website?
I want to go but don't want to risk missing the 22.28 from South Bermondsey if we get kept in afterwards.

I imagine there will be specials to whisk away fans away.
Remember the police are very well drilled down there.
I suspect there will be little trouble now it's moved to a Friday night.

This seems like a good guide...

There are not many pubs located near to the stadium and those should be avoided by away supporters. If travelling by train then it is probably best to grab a beer around London Bridge before moving onto the ground. I would advise keeping any colours covered, even when drinking in the London Bridge area. There are bars at the back of the stands at the stadium, that serve alcohol as well as some decent food such as chicken and chips.
Chris Lynskey a visiting Scunthorpe United fan recommends; 'The Shipwright Arms on Tooley
Street, near London Bridge. Come out of London Bridge tube station, turn right and its only 200yds
down the road on your right hand side. A lovely little pub which also serves food. We left the pub at 2.15pm to go and catch the train to the stadium and made it comfortably for kick off'.
I wouldn't recommend "The Globe" pub to anyone, not sure if its London Bridge but its a pub I've heard mentioned by a few Villa fans
They are about 15-20 minutes walk away from the ground

It's outside Baker Street tube. Nowhere near Millwall

There's a Globe close to Borough Market, but it's nothing special.
-
The Market Porter in Borough Market is good. THere are a few pubs around there and it is pretty touristy and so safe (you would think).

Will be absolutely rammed on a Friday evening though. I'd recommend The Mudlark - just down the steps from London Bridge (the West side of the actual bridge, not the station).

There's the Swan at the Globe (as in Globe Theatre) ? Priciest pub in Christendom, but very pleasant.
-
The Barrow Boy and Banker on London Bridge itself isn't too bad....it is large and easy for the station.

Right, got my ticket. Just need to dig out a football sock and a couple of snooker balls and I'm all set.

Think you will strugle to find a quiet pub around there to be honest.
There was I think a Globe in Borough Market...used to have a bar billiards table if I remember.

You won't have a problem. References will be easy to come by for this.

To be honest if I'm tucked into a decent boozer on a Friday night in London there's no way I'm leaving to watch the game

I would love to go to this game as it's the second nearest league ground to where I live, after Palace. Plus with tickets only being £20 a throw...if anybody who is entitled to a ticket but isn't going wouldn't mind getting it anyway and selling it to me I would be most grateful (I'm not sure we won't sell out the 2000 before we get to the 'any booking history' level where I reside). Message me anyone who would be able to and wouldn't mind doing me that favour, please

Had two text messages from my Milwall supporting mate. Who is actually a lovely bloke!
"Looks like extra policing is being put on for the game according to my mate in the met. Rumors of planned fights are spreading"
"Usually target the standard pub coaches drop off supporters off so if any of your mates are on them you might want to give them the warning".
Just passing the message on guys.

"Planned fights" will be well away from the ground. Other stuff will be kids chucking stones and they will be cleared pretty quickly. As I say watch out of there is a replay ;-)

Unfortunately, this time you don't have the correct privileges on your account to purchase tickets for this match.
Yes I bloody do.

Does anyone know (approx) how many tickets we have sold so far?
What is the chance of the tickets going on general sale next week?
cheers

Got tickets for the train on this one. I dont fancy being put in an escort and on a train when my car is in the other direction.

I imagine they will stop for a couple of hours somewhere that won't be mentioned here so that prying eyes from South London don't clock it. Then the coaches will be escorted from a convenient point and taken into the compound at the ground.
The driver would be wise not to fall for the trap that was set for a coach load of Bristol City supporters. The Millwall put a 'Diversion' sign up as it approached. This took it into a dead end street where it was smashed to bits, with those inside getting battered.

That is potentially worse, If your worried about your safety it's much likely to be safer leaving with Police controls even if it gives time for them to group up. Leave early especially on the very slim chance we are winning and you could be left to fend for yourself.
But echoing Ads Sentiments Don't be a jessy

The OB escort you straight back onto the train. I'm not going anywhere 10 mins from time...you'd walk straight into them on your own. No ta

Watch out for Tommy Hatcher and his crew.

I think Brian was referring to people leaving the ground who are not on the coach or train. It all depends on the circumstances. Last minute penalty, knocking Millwall out, would be a bad time to be on the streets, even for non- Jessies.

I went to The New Den with Palace around 6 or 7 years ago. It was a bit lairey but nothing to worry about. Certainly safer than going to Blues/Villa.
Some great pubs by London Bridge, I would get in early as everyone finishes early for a few beers on a Friday, and as no one drives the pubs can be rammed. The George Inn on Borough High Street is a lovely boozer if you are in town early. Certainly a place for a couple, but maybe not big enough to accommodate hordes of Villa. A good pub to tick off though.

The bit about the Bristol City coach is true. What's your fucking problem?
By the way, don't bother Googling it as that tells a more recent story. What I refer to happened about 30 years ago.

Millwall are fine if you aren't a player. I been to the old Den lots of times with Millwall fans and others knowing I'm Villa but they aren't interested in your normal fan, just a crew. I even used to play football for Pub near the Oval which was all Millwall apart from me and one Chelsea fan.
-
Had two text messages from my Milwall supporting mate.
Yeah hope your right. I just hope our coach doesnt drop us in the middle of nowhere and outside the ground. Going with cheuffers.
Wow.
Millwall fans reading this thread must be pissing themselves.
The bit about the Bristol City coach is true. What's your fucking problem?
By the way, don't bother Googling it as that tells a more recent story. What I refer to happened about 30 years ago.
What don't you understand? they'll be pissing themselves thinking that most of this thread is devoted to people bigging them up as some kind of mass murder hit squad that re-direct fans to dead ends to burn them alive or people stating how worried they are about going.
-
Is South London, not Soweto.
Anybody that has been to the New Den recently knows the score. The only ground where you will feel the squeeze in this day and age is Shite Andrews on derby day when its going off left right and centre.
Overhyping fables and the such like from 30 years ago is not relevant to your match day exprience at the New Den.
Who is the most active "firm" in the country and with more arrests every year than anybody else? Man United.
There is no collective shitting of it or tales of how it wwnt off in some service station in 1980 when we played them.
Stop buying the Millwall myths
-
And it was Millwall fans, yes those super human, SS Death Squad types, who got turned over by Bristol City fans the other year.
They must have had tanks or air support to be able to give Millwall a good hiding.
-
Just when I was looking forward to it. It will be a picnic in the car park now. Anyone care for a cucumber sandwich?
-

Millwall hate Crystal Palace. When Crystal Palace score they play "Glad All Over" by The Dave Clark Five.
Be afraid, be very afraid!

I was going to Man City once when a mini full of Millwall went past and gave me the wanker sign, I gave one of them a withering look and my mate tutted quite audibly.
I should write a book.

I always join in with that when I'm at Selhurst Park. Need a new drum kit after each rendition.
-
Millwall isn't what you remember it, its a bunch of 15 year olds throwing bottles then running from the OB. NOTHING will happen, stop over-hyping it, its tiring.
If anyones afraid, don't go
-
I am Travelling from Basingstoke,I Need to return to Waterloo,Just wondered where the Met will return the train travelling fans to ? London Bridge?
When I saw Aldershot there in a cup match a few years back they held away fans back for about ten minutes, then escorted everyone back South Bermondsey and while there were police on the trains, the people were free to travel wherever they want.
If we do all get escorted back to Brum we'll split a taxi back to Hampshire eh?
-
By all accounts Millwall were poor in defeat yesterday, but I'm certain they'll raise their game when the big boys come to town.

Suitably edited.

Really looking forward to the atmosphere at this game. We will play our part to lift our lads.
-
I'm not sure the atmosphere will be that good, on Friday they had only sold 7,000 tickets. We've passed the 1,000 mark
-
How many did they sell yesterday?
-
I used to play football with a lot of police in South London. Probably about 7/8 years ago I can remember talking to one guy who had been drafted in from another borough to police a night game there. I think it might have been a West Ham or Cardiff game, and it was on the news because they had to put down a couple of police horses that had been targeted by hooligans. He was a bit rattled about the whole thing, and frankly it didn't sound like much fun. He was just a regular guy with a wife and kids, who had to go and get kitted-up to be subjected to some senseless violence on a Wednesday night.
That said, I've got a friend who is an Everton fan, who just happens to live in Bermondsey now. He went regularly when they got promoted from Division 1 a few years ago and really enjoyed the atmosphere - I think especially as someone who is cynical about the commercial circus that is the EPL. There is probably a big difference between the regular supporters, and the trouble makers who come along when there is expectation of an incident.
-
I hate that I'm even thinking it, but if we get through on Tuesday, I'd chuck the stiffs in on Friday.
The Newcastle game is too important, and we seem to lose a player o injury every game.
-
No LeeB it doesn't work like that. Losing is a habit just as winning. To win you have to compete to the best of your ability in every game.
-
It is debatable whether he is already playing the stiffs, bolstered by the return of Vlaar. I think he will have to go full strength, but it is Lambert's call.
-

I agree mate, but an extended run in the FA Cup might not be what we need with our paper thin squad and with a trip to Wembley on the way anyway would soften the blow.
-
Double post
-
Whatever happens, it's going to be a proppa nawty night
-
I have heard that shell suit sales have gone through the roof in the Millwall area ;D

No worries. Our triple signings, waiting in the wings to join if we get to Wembley, will be frothing at the gash to play as soon as possible and earn a Cup Final place in the team.
-
I'd play Dunne, Ireland, Hutton and Warnock in this. The Bradford and Newcastle games are more important. The FA Cup can wait til next year!

We'd probably get fined, as playing the four horesemen together would look like we're blatantly chucking the game.

Apocalypse Now! I love the smell of booze and fags in the morning (on the training ground).
-
4 internationals. Frightening.
-
We are heading for a bumper Den crowd on Friday night when The Lions look to pull off an FA Cup Fourth Round upset against Premier League outfit Aston Villa.
Over 10,500 tickets have already been sold for the game
-

Problem with that is they would be cup tied if anybody would be stupid enough to come in for them.

I think you will find that after the 4th round of the FA cup there will be very few teams affected by that issue.
-
10,500 Millwall tickets sold according to their OS, with us having a 2,000 allocation and the bottom tier not being sold that leaves them with roughly 5,000 tickets remaining

Have we sold our 2k yet?

Not as far as I know. Should do if we stuff Bradford.

Not so much 'cup tied' as 'cup tired'.

I can, it was rubbish, we lost at home to Liverpool and shouldnt have been played because of the weather.

Better get used to friday night games, there are loads in the championship

Wasn't that the game on a rock hard pitch where Ian "it was like a foreign country" Rush scored a hat trick. I thought it ended 4-2?

If it wasn't for tv, that game would never have been played. We have also played against Oxford and Middlesbrough at home on Friday nights if my memory serves correct. I know the Oxford one was in the season that we played Hartlepool in the League Cup as that was staged on an unusual night.
-
1-3
-
Here it is...
-
A bit more info on why the game has been moved to tomorrow
Good on Millwall.
We'll be on the demo on Saturday, me and the kids in our Villa scarves

Did we play Albion at home in division 2, late 80s on a Friday night? Or did I just imagine that?
-
We did. 0-0. The game before Christmas.
Birchy hit the bar and they brought a couple of busloads.
-
We also beat Wolves 2-0 on a Friday night in the late 70s - a very underrated 20 yard own goal by Colin Brazier (I think), which was actually an overhit back pass. A beautiful way of undoing a negative Wolves team.
We have had a few games on the eve of the FA Cup final too. We played QPR before the 1976 or 1977 cup final. And who could forget the 3-0 thumping of Swansea on the Friday night before Rotterdam?
I have a very vague recollection of a Friday game in Division 2 (as was) against Oxford in the late 60s, but I may have dreamt this. For some reason I have convinced myself Geoff Crudgington played in goal.
-
We also played Bristol Rovers at Eastville in the FA Cup on a Friday night. Won 2-1. The season we went to West Ham in the quarter final.
-
Another Friday evening game, which I was at, was the final game of the 1969-70 season at home to Sheff Utd on 10th April. Despite winning 1-0 we were relegated to Division 3 for the first time in our history. This was just 6 days after the infamous match at Leicester, which we lost 1-0, with a 'goal' which we scored being disallowed because the ball hit a stanchion at the back of the goal and rebounded back into play, without either the referee or linesman at that end seeing what had happened.
Also (I was there) Chesterfield at home two seasons later, 1971-72, again last match of season, on 5th May. We won 1-0 in front of a crowd of 45,567 and were promoted back to Division 2, finishing as Champions of Division 3.

Spot on, Jon; Friday 29th November, being four days after we played Hartlepool, and eight days after the Pub Bombings.

Sorry if I've missed it but can anyone advise me about this train from london bridge to south bermondsey? Do the old bill escort us onto it at lb, or is it every man for himself?

normal rush-hour train to illustrious places like kent and croydon. every 10 minutes or so.
old bill usually herds away fans onto a train after the match.

It's a four minute journey. I imagine you stand back and see what sort of arseholes are getting on. Probably full of all sorts of punters anyway. Getting back after the game is more controlled.
-
We played West Ham on Good Friday 2000 I think. Fairly sure it was a scoreless draw.
-
We did. 0-0. The game before Christmas.
Birchy hit the bar and they brought a couple of busloads.
Yes i remember that. I was sitting in the Trinity and if i remember rightly, Birchy's shot kind of swerved in from the right hand side and bounced off the bar. It was the highlight of the game i think.
-

God,just remembered this one.Five of us decided at 4.30 to go last minute.Went in a black cab ,cost £50 -which was a lot then .Proper old ground.Managed to bunk back on the special.
-
Tranmere always used to play Friday night (we played them up there in Division3)
-
Can I just a few words of respect for those fans who are going tonight. Ten years ago I would have been there too but well done to you. With all that's going on, or not, at the moment and with the weather forecast for tonight, I've got a lot of time for you guys.
I just hope the club and players respond tonight. Enjoy the game.
-
Well the leopard hasn't changed its spots. They are still a load of pond life down there.
A handful of Millwall had paid into our end and slapped a couple downstairs before being chased out of there. I don't know the full story but two were behind us and smashed a seat up when we scored. They disappeared to meet up with a few other idiots just before half time.
There were at least half a dozen bottles thrown at the linesman / our players and a hot drink was launched in the direction of our disabled supporters.
The coaches finally got on the move at about 2230. Just ten minutes before we had heard that some of ours were still being prevented from getting onto the railway station due to 'home supporter activity'.
-
I noticed the two behind us. When we scored one of the two had what can only be described as a growling contorted face and he was kicking the back I'd the seat in front of him. Thought it was a bit strange so when they scored I turned round to see him grinning. Soon after he and his mate left (approx 30 minutes into game).
The three chaps (definitely Villa as were on our coach) in front of us went down a few minutes later to get something to eat and then Jon (not sure about him) went down.
All came back reporting that there had been an incident downstairs and a couple of villa fans had taken a bashing.
-
We were told that Millwall had waited in the toilets to catch anyone going down for an early piss. No doubt there will be either confirmation or otherwise but a couple had bloodied faces and a load of Villa went charging off just before half time under the stand.
-
When i heard that they were selling tickets on the door, i thought it sounded a bit iffy and could cause something like this to happen.
Also, there were a lot of people in our crowd tonight who you knew had'nt been to a game for a long time. There were some very dodgy looking fella's lurking around who just did'nt feel like 'Villa' if you know what i mean.
-
I know exactly what you mean, Clampy, but cup games tend to be different, support wise. Still, after the incident I witnessed and the follow up, I was clocking everyone with suspicion.
-
After that incident, I had a look around behind us to see if there were likely to be any more of them around us. Things like that are virtually unheard of in the Premier League but commonplace years ago, especially at shit holes like this. They are that vile down there that you can imagine them descending into the sewers after the game.
-
I was stood downstairs by the food kiosk waiting for my mate to fill his face before the game and some of the lads walking past me just looked very very dodgy. I've never seen so many flat caps in my life at a match before.
-
How did you get to the game, Clampy? Difficult journey as it was, was glad we went on the coach.
-
One of the coaches was stuck in traffic and some Millwall fans opened the door. The little bloke at the front, who would be well known to regular away fans, shot off at the sight of them but they didn't board the coach. Absolutely no Police escort in or out of there with all the Police and stewards doing a wonderful job in the safety of the coach park. Don't get me wrong, there was no threat to our coach but you just got the feeling, especially on the way there that it could easily have kicked off.
-
How did you get to the game, Clampy? Difficult journey as it was, was glad we went on the coach.
Travelled down with Black Country Villains as always. I'm not sure if you noticed a white mini bus parked with the coaches but we were on that.

Yes it is. It's normally a coach but there was only a few of us tonight.

If Millwall is still the same dangerous intimidating place it was, then Villa are still Champions of Europe. Things have moved on for all of us.
A more than winnable game, and progression to the 5th round.
Wrong on all counts.

No unfortunatley. Once we hit London, the traffic was horrendous.

Towards the end of half time out back, I notoced the riot police move in and a few minutes later a lot of Villa emerge from another exit and then started to surge around the back trying to get through the fence at the Millwall asbo lot on the left hand side.
The copper told me that they had been following this particular group around all afternoon and there had been an altercation with a lot of Halesowen Villa and Millwall prior to the game.
There were a lot of blokes amongst our support, about five women and no children. A lot of Stone Island.
It must cost Millwall a fortune to be policed like that a minimum of 24 times a season. They could probably buy some new players with the cash.
I ended up driving and didn't see any Millwall after the game. They were up on the station apparently. Too many trips to the true crime section at Waterstones and Danny Dyer has much to answer for.
The copper was saying that the trouble away from the ground is caused by the kids from the estate who are provided with cheap tickets, while the older lot tend to go looking for Tottenham, Palace, West Ham and Arsenal when Millwall are away.
Its not up there with the Sty on derby day for feeling the squeeze. I would say its more like a zoo.
-

Blimey are they still "active"? Back in the 70's I remember Halesowen and Quinton mobs from mamy skirmishes.

My Nan used to live on Ley Hill so whenever I was there these nice young men would take me along to Villa. Honest!

From Brum or Cannock? No one mentioned anything about a door getting opened.

From Brum. It was the Cannock one that got the door opened on the way to the ground from St Paul's.

I have been told on good authority that, when the one coach missed the turn by the ground, a few got off and a couple got battered straight away. This may explain the bloodied faces in our crowd rather than them getting done in by infiltrators.

I thought there was a sporting chance that I was going to croak it last night when they had us penned into that compound. I was numb from my feet to my belly and numb from the top of my head to my neck. I thought if they do not open that fecking gate in a minute I will go numb all over and Goodbye Mr Quips. The doctors say it is called Reynaud's Disease. If I had snuffed it I wonder if Villa could have claimed compo for me. Loss of future income from season ticket sales and programmes? It is irresponsible to pen people up in sub zero temperatures for more than a miunute or two. If we were sheep or pigs the RSPCA would have Millwall FC in court before you could say Danny Shittu. Luckliy for them I retained the will to live but it was a hard one to call at a quarter past ten last night.

I don't usually feel the cold weather in this country, and would overheat if I wore gloves, for example. (Winter in Kansas, where I lived for a long time, was an entirely different matter).
Last night though, when ruminating in the pen after our latest ritual humiliation, I started shivering and a-shaking like a fucking jelly. Admittedly, I had been on the piss all day, and that was probably a contributing factor. For some reason, I thought of a film by the French film director Alain Resnais whiich featured a theme of rats being locked in a cage and systematically electrocuted.
I know I should be shamed to say this, and it is somewhat selfish, but I pined for the days when they used to let us out to fight.

That 'Let 'em come' song they have is a proper cockney singalong innit? Only they could have a club anthem based around giving visitors a good hiding. All part of the Millwall experience I guess.
That said, any Villa fan pissing up cars outside the ground would be asking for any hiding they got.

You can just imagine all those who write on that website, a row full of hooligan dvd's in the living room and discussing their favourite 'rucks' in the boozer every week. So sad.

Blimey! We 'ad a right fackin' touch. Apparently.

I was thinking the same adrenochrome. I was frozen so solid I would have felt no pain if I had been punched or kicked and there would have been a fair chance of fractured metacarpals for anybody who assaulted me. I would have been like one of those sides of frozen beef Rocky used to punch in the Philly freezer.

I'm not up on hoolie speak but what does 'ad a touch' even mean?

Sounds familiar, I was at Forest away when they kept us locked in a pen by the train station after our football special had broke down and we got delayed. Except of course it was bloody hot rather than cold!

Well they don't have anything else going for them really.

That was our coach that leighlion mentions in his post Jon, as I mentioned to you on FB earlier. Not sure if the lads allegedly pissing on cars were the ones off our coach though.

They would have been a bit off the beaten track to find themselves behind the Dockers Stand, Ken. Not the easiest of manoeuvres to get back to our end either.
