If his terms were pre-agreed, it sounds like he doesn't have to consent. So I hope he is excited about coming back and not just feeling like he's being forced.

It's not Ross Barkley but it's not very exciting either. This is like opening your Christmas presents and they're all things that you gave away the year before.

Fingers crossed. A more manageable talent than Duran (I know they play a different position), Unai clearly rates him. We need a proper right-footed option on the right wing, not just Diaby or Bailey playing there and coming in on their left.

I am loving all this. It’s like Monchi is playing 4D chess while all our rivals are playing tic-tac-toe and losing.

Tommi O’Reilly is set to join Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan.

O’Reilly is expected to move on loan in the next 24 hours. 20yo signed a long term contract with Villa earlier this year

I'm happy with this, I didn't want him to go so I'm happy to see him back. The only question mark is how we're going to fit in al lthe wide players we now have.

Me too. Hopefully the signing all goes through...

He’s a 22 year old player who was superb in our last pre season. He left to get more playing time and made the absolute most of it. He could have just languished on the bench or ended up on loan but he gambled on himself. Archie Gray just joined Spurs for the better part of £40m. We are seemingly bringing back a very exciting player for a fraction of that. This is super business. And if he works out we can still sell him on again for a significantly higher value in the future.

Agreed. 100%.

If his terms were pre-agreed, it sounds like he doesn't have to consent. So I hope he is excited about coming back and not just feeling like he's being forced.

I think he still has to put the final stamp on it.

All the figures are agreed, but he can still say "no, I want to go to Ipswich".

Yeah, it's not getting my juices flowing either.

Adding the rumours together, is this the thinking:

Duran + Archer = Joao Felix

He’s not a pure striker but could fill in and offers a genuine alternative to Diaby.  Fees wise it might balance off, but I’d guess an increase in wages.

Same thought went through my mind
That thought that went through my mind is Joao Felix = No thank you.

Yup, another name ticked off for four Champions League squad players.

Seems a bit of a shame if a rule intended to encourage teams to give more match time to homegrown players actually has the effect of making them spend more time on the bench!

Villa have chosen to do this and the figure will be reduced by 30 per cent because of a sell-on clause that was also placed in the terms that took Philogene to Hull.

So we match the £18m fee but this clause then reduces it to £12.6m...clever.
