Villa have chosen to do this and the figure will be reduced by 30 per cent because of a sell-on clause that was also placed in the terms that took Philogene to Hull.

So we match the £18m fee but this clause then reduces it to £12.6m...clever.

Agreed. I don't know how anyone can watch his highlights from last season and think that £12.6m isn't a deal for a player of his quality that is able to play on the left. There will be no bedding-in period as he knows his way around BH. Should be an easy transition and good for all parties.

Yes but it's our money in any case. If AN Other club buy him for £18M we get 30% of that.

Aston Villa can confirm that Philippe Coutinho has joined Vasco da Gama on a season-long loan.

Well, either that or we buy him for £18m (actually £12.6m) from Hull and then sell him to Ipswich for £18m. Nice bit of 'fucking over' PSR.

I’m really trying to ignore the obvious trolling, but I want to call them a knob. I won’t though, because that’s against the site rules, regardless of how much of a knob someone is being.

Why does it mess with PSR?
We buy for £18m (amortise over life of contract)
Book £6m of revenue instantly
Sell for £18m to Ipswich, recognise £18m of cost and £18m of revenue. Upside £6m ie exactly the same as if Ipswich just buy him for £18m now and we book £6m of revenue.

We only need to pay £12.6m because of the 30% sell-on clause, so in theory, we could turn round and sell him for £18m and make £5.4m profit for nothing.

The problem is that there's the lad to think about it and we would have to string him along in order for that to happen and rightly, our ethics and integrity would be questioned.

Emery said openly he didn't want him to go. If he plays well this season, and makes some champions league appearances etc, he's worth 3 times that next summer. No brainier to have him back when you really think it through.

If he suddenly get sold to Spurs for £30-40 plus Lo Celso, you have to think he is. That foot injury sounded horrible.

From our other Percy:

Quote
Aston Villa have moved to re-sign winger Jaden Philogene as they finalise the exit of £17 million star Philippe Coutinho.

Villa are making a move to bring Philogene back to the club after activating a ‘matching rights’ option agreed in the contract signed when he moved to Hull City last summer.

Ipswich, the Championship runners-up, have made an £18 million bid to sign Philogene and Villa have now triggered the option to sign him back.
Philogene is understood to have already agreed salary terms and contract length with Villa in the deal when he departed.

The 22-year-old was one of the stars of the Championship last season, scoring 12 goals in 32 games for Hull as the club fell just short of the play-off places.

Ipswich, Everton and Crystal Palace have all targeted the former Villa academy player but he looks destined to rejoin Unai Emery’s squad unless either of the three clubs make a higher offer.
Villa also agreed a 30 per cent sell-on clause during negotiations with Hull, so their deal – if all goes through – will be worth just under £13.5 million.

Coutinho, meanwhile, is heading for the exit with a loan move to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama.
The former Barcelona and Liverpool midfielder has been determined to leave Villa this summer but his huge wages of around £125,000-a-week have complicated negotiations.

Coutinho began his career with Vasco’s academy and they are putting the finishing touches to a transfer which will be for the remainder of their current season.
Signed from Barcelona permanently by former Villa manager Steven Gerrard in May 2022, after an initial six-month loan, Coutinho spent last season at Qatari club Al-Duhail.
