Does the attraction of playing on a squad rotation system with possible Chumps League football outweigh playing every week elsewhere?

Point of order, it's not the 'Chumps League' now that we're in it.

I don't understand our transfer policy with both Archer and Bidace - if we thought that both could be back in our 1st team squad this season, after they had gained some experience in the Championship then why did we not just loan both of them out for a season.

We are spending a potential £18 million to bring Bidace back, if he does not get many games for us next season, then his value will have only gone down? if we try to sell him next summer

I assume some of the deals last summer were a different version of this summer's swapsie merry-go-round. Loans bring in less money up front, I think? And we still have to pay some of their wages.

If we keep both of them for 12-18 months and then do Kellyman type deals for FFS purposes …….

Apparently we have a 15% sell on fee for Philogene.

If Romano is right & we have matched the bids, then hopefully that is a sign that we have spoken to the lad & he likes the sound of rotation with a Champions League club, as opposed to the alternatives.

I am happy that we have matched the bids though. Even if he turns us down, at least we made the effort...

Weren't the sales of Archer, Ramsey and Bidace last summer part of our FFP/PSR manoeuvres?

A bit more on this from The Athletic

Quote
Villa have chosen to do this and the figure will be reduced by 30 per cent because of a sell-on clause that was also placed in the terms that took Philogene to Hull.

Personal terms were pre-agreed when the 22-year-old winger left Villa for the MKM Stadium.

If Hull receive higher bids from other clubs, Villa must choose whether to remain in the process for a player their manager Unai Emery is now prioritising in this market.

And if other clubs do increase their bids, we make more from the sell-on clause.

#AVFC have made a move to re-sign Jaden Philogene by activating a matching rights clause. Unai Emery is prioritising the winger. Personal terms were pre-agreed when 22yo left for Hull City & Villa had 72 hours after Ipswich's bid.

Athletic Article

Aston Villa have made a move to re-sign Jaden Philogene from Hull City by activating a matching rights clause they negotiated in the deal that saw him sold to the Championship club last summer.

After Hull received an offer from Ipswich Town worth £18milllion, the 2023 agreement provided Villa with 72 hours to exercise their option.

Ipswich continue to pursue Philogene — as do Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham United.

Philogene was part of Villa’s academy and broke into the first team in 2021. Loan moves to Stoke City and Cardiff City followed before he joined Hull on a permanent deal last summer.

He earned admirers with 12 goals in 32 games for Hull as they finished seventh in the Championship last season, three points adrift of the play-offs.

Philogene scored three goals in four games for England Under-21s during their qualification campaign for the European Championship in 2025.

I'm happy with this, I didn't want him to go so I'm happy to see him back. The only question mark is how we're going to fit in al lthe wide players we now have.

He’s an option for the right where we’re lighter.

He’s a 22 year old player who was superb in our last pre season. He left to get more playing time and made the absolute most of it. He could have just languished on the bench or ended up on loan but he gambled on himself. Archie Gray just joined Spurs for the better part of £40m. We are seemingly bringing back a very exciting player for a fraction of that. This is super business. And if he works out we can still sell him on again for a significantly higher value in the future.
