🚨 NEW: Man United have kept in touch with the people who represent Emi Martínez, with dialogue since the start of the year. Martínez is of the understanding that any pursuit depends on André Onana’s future. He does not want to go to Saudi Arabia, & would prefer to join Man United or another big European club.
@TheAthleticFC

Praying Onana is as stubborn as Harry Maguire and they can't shift him.

Maybe it's the new 8 second rule which is driving this sale.
Martinez will be the one keeper in the PL that refs will be looking at the most.

Yeah and if he ends up there, the rule won't apply to him anyway. Maybe that's why he wants to go (if indeed he does). It's all sounding a bit desperate on his entourage's part though, 'ManU or anyone, just anyone big please....'

I'd love to see him with us next season, but if we get Chevalier to replace him (and he goes for a big fee), I'll be feeling quite pleased I think.

Martinez and Digne leaving could be the most solid part of Emery's defence (given he picks Torres ahead of Digne) going but also saving us a fortune in wages.

I strongly suspect the club is happy enough to move him on due to PSR.

Wanker.

To be fair he did usually stay after 70 minutes.

Regardless of what’s going on we don’t need someone here who isn’t committed. As I’ve said it’s a calculated gamble from the club, but if he’s looking elsewhere then we should be actively looking to move on.

I sometimes think we should all be committed.

Or maybe if we are actively looking to move on, then he should be looking elsewhere?

Not if it means waiting until the transfer deadline while Man U try to find a sucker for Onana. We should only be selling players on our terms.

Horrible to think of him engineering a move away (IF this is true) while we were still in the FA Cup & CL with a chance of success and lapping up the adoration of the Villa fans : like your other half carrying on behind your back!  Especially going to that circus who aren't even in Europe next season as opposed to other "big clubs"! Guess money doesn't just talk, it swears!

Which is fine (I'm happy we sell so long as we get the best from the deal with regards to first team strength next season).  It's the 'keeping tabs since the start of the year' bit that is going to piss people off isn't it, rightly or wrongly.

I think we should all take what we hear with a pinch of salt.

He's been fucking brilliant.  Transformational for us.  I hope fans can give him the benefit of the doubt.

If the club has hinted we'll have PSR issues and he may be one solution, it's natural his agents have cast the net a bit.  It's also a chance for a huge payday for him.

I truly hate Man Utd and would be gutted to see him there.  But players move on or are moved on.  And for me this is a direct result of not qualifying for the CL.

Up until this season, he's been brilliant.  I don't believe him leaving is anything to do with the CL - he was doing the slightly performative crying at VP before we'd (he'd) fucked that up.  He's known he's off ski for ages and it's probably affected his performances too.

See, it's this sort of utter bullshit that pisses me off.  No wonder players sometimes couldn't give a toss when they hear fans' attitudes like this after all he's achieved for us.
