See, it's this sort of utter bullshit that pisses me off.  No wonder players sometimes couldn't give a toss when they hear fans' attitudes like this after all he's achieved for us.

Going to the club that just finished 16th feels a bit like a slap in the face with a big keeper-gloved hand.

Yes, it seems an odd move,  But IF the club are keen to cash in, which I suspect they may be, and the other 'big' English teams don't want / need / can't afford him, then it's more understandable.

Utter bullshit eh?  Nice one, Chrisw1.  Maybe you can clarify what's upsetting you so much?  I think it's likely that his performances have been impacted by unsettling himself (or being unsettled by being contacted by Manchester Utd).  I also don't think him leaving is anything whatsoever to do with us missing out on CL.  I've said he's been brilliant up until this season - not controversial stuff really is it?

Also, I'm fine with him going. I'd lijke Rashford in return though.

Is he our best ever keeper, for me absolutely. I don’t want his to leave.

On the flip side, what’s going on in his head? Last big payday, chance to turn around a shite Man U, feeling too comfortable/bored at Villa?

He didn’t have a great season by his standards and maybe he feels he needs to move to re discover his mojo.

There’s every likelihood they won’t want to pay what we want and he stays.

I think we should all take what we hear with a pinch of salt.

He's been fucking brilliant.  Transformational for us.  I hope fans can give him the benefit of the doubt.

That's why I put a capital IF in my above comment!!

Look, this transfer Silly Season is getting to us all: we'll know what's going on soon enough & who will be going before the 30th!  It's going to be a roller coaster though...

Who had a better season, Onana or Luiz?

The certainty with which he chats shit is laughable. Luiz was replaced by Tielemans for a start. How did that work out?

Diego Carlos number one fan speaks.

Luiz was replaced in the squad by Onana for a conveniently similar reported fee. Onana is sh*te

The widely-regarded worst judge of a footballer on H&V speaks. I’m a Villa fan. I like combinations of players who get better results for Aston Villa when selected. We have established many times that you prefer combinations of players who get worse ones. Weird, but each to their own.

Eh, I'm a Villa fan too, as is everyone posting on this forum. Your echo chamber isn't the only place where weird ideas get debated and challenged.

You have a weird fascination with Carlos and I enjoy repeating calling you out on it.

I merely pointed out that (while Mings was injured) Carlos and Pau with Konsa at RB were a more effective defence than Konsa and Pau with Cash at RB. See, it was nothing personal for me - I just liked the players who got better results. To prefer the selection of players who got worse results (for the team you support) is weird. It’s only a matter of degrees different to wanting Olsen in goal instead of Emi.

We have a big loss dropout next year don’t we?

But that doesn't matter for UEFA rules.

I heard on a pod the other night (can’t mind which one) that UEFA SCR is calculated over calendar years.

Dunno. The UEFA website says this:

Quote
The new rule limits spending on player and coach wages, transfers and agent fees to 70% of club revenue. We will roll out the new threshold progressively: 90% in the 2023/24 season and 80% in 2024/25, before applying the permanent 70% ceiling from 2025/26. Breaches will result in predefined financial penalties as well as sporting measures.

Which suggests it's based on the football season. I can't find anything that says otherwise.

Sorry for the reaction.

My general starting point is I tend to try to see the best in people and, rightly or wrongly, mostly give players the benefit of the doubt.  Particularly when they have been such key contributors like Emi.  I hate seeing him getting slagged off here and elsewhere when we clearly don't know the full story.

I was (and am) the same with Jack, but appreciate that sometimes I'm swimming against the tide.

I do think what is happening now is probably as much push as it is jump.  I will hate seeing him in a Man U shirt and will obviously want him and them to fail.  But I'll never boo him.  He's one of the most important players I've seen at Villa Park since 1982 and I'm more interested in what he has done for us than what he does next.

Fair enough and no harm done mate - seeing the best in people as a principle is a good thing.  I'd keep him in an ideal world, but (and this is against the tide too!) I think he's more replaceable now than he has been previously 0 for me, up to this season he's been genuinely and consistently world class for the Villa .

I won't boo him and don't boo anybody when he's trying to save a last minute Rashford penalty.  I'm generally more of a 'cross arms and keep dignified silence' type :D

No, fuck that, if he's pushed to leave us at our best in decades to go there, when they're utter shit, he's sub Bozzie and Yorke. At least they were stepping up.

I don't think Man U have the money for him and have other priorities plus Onana wants to stay. Emi is happy when we as a club are making progress and I'm not surprised he may have responded back in January with his new agent Jorges Mendes put it to him as to whether he'd maybe be up for a move. Last season was a bit of a slog for various reasons and we rarely saw us play to our real potential, think Newcastle 4-1 at home. Then there's the PSR problem again.

A lot of noise has come from Mendes' team, of course he was on the phone to Amorim back in January and probably every week since as Onana let in another soft goal. Then you have the Man U media effect which we saw first hand with Rashford despite him not giving a single interview to the media since he joined us on loan.

I really hope we don't sell him and more to the point, I really hope we don't want to sell him. There's a whole squad to pick from before we should be looking to sell him, he's that bloody good.

Yeah agreed. I'm not paying too much mither to it at the moment, as it seems all the PSR gobshites are wrong and it's just dull (as every close season is).

But fuck anybody that leaves us for those shit ******.
