No, fuck that, if he's pushed to leave us at our best in decades to go there, when they're utter shit, he's sub Bozzie and Yorke. At least they were stepping up.

But that's the rub Lee.  You don't know if he's pushed to leave us or if the club have gently steered him in that direction.  Maybe we want the money but would prefer him to go to Saudi and he rightly doesn't want to give up his career just yet to make our fans feel happy.

If we want (need) the money and wage savings and he wants to stay in England, then his options are very limited.  Probably down to one, as unpalatable for fans as that may be.

If we truly wanted to keep him, I'm sure we could.

Well no one knows that outside of Martinez and the club.

Is it that unusual that a club that might covet one of our players stayed in touch with the players agent and our club during the season? I imagine it wasn’t just Emi but several other players too. I’m sure we do the same thing. And especially as in our case where we would have come up against PSR and UEFA financial challenges in the summer. That information was hardly a secret. The PSR/FFP rules makes clubs like ours rush for the picking. As much as we would like to protect our best assets it’s impossible to do and other clubs with deeper pockets know that. Whether or not the Emi rumours are actually true doesn’t really matter. One of our best players will leave this summer.

We don't know the ins/out of it. Maybe he's had a falling out with Emery, maybe he has to go for PSR reasons, most likely it's been use as a ruse by his camp to generate interest from CL clubs. I'm not sure why any top player would consider going there currently.

No matter where he goes (I still hope he stays btw), we shouldn't lose sight of what he did for us on the pitch. A WC winner and a crucial part of a team that got to a CL QF.

Supposing the club do have a compelling need to reduce the wage bill, getting rid of a player who is effectively our one and only goalkeeper would seem to me to be a very strange way of going about it. Which makes me think that if the club would be happy for him to move on, then this would be for footballing reasons, ie Emery has it mind that we need a new and better keeper.

Well surely as long as we buy one primary and one back up by the time we kick a ball in pre season isn’t that all that matters?

Who cares whether we know the ins and outs, we back the Villa, every single time.

Do we know that for sure?

Alternatively do we have proof that the club do not want to sell him. Given the wage issues, it’s likely someone must go, so why not Emi?

I’m still convinced that a lot of this chat is fuelling itself and repeating fed by Sky et al because it might get Emi to Them, rather than him actually wanting desperately to go there; why would he? They’re a club in disarray and on the slide.

They're still Man United, though. They won't stay that way for long (enough).

Who do we think will win a trophy next, for example, us or them?

I bet it is them.

We’ve got Emery leading us in the Europa League next season, so, I think there’s a fighting chance it’ll be Villa winning that race - especially as we won’t meet Them in the Final.

Then again, they could still be struggling in the PL next season but they managed to get to a Europa Cup final at the end of a pretty disastrous 24/25 campaign, so if they ( or Villa) make it to either the League Cup or FA Cup finals it could all come down to dates!

In which case, I still say Villa!

Thing is, even in their disastrous period, Man U have accumulated trophies at a rate that we (and most clubs outside the chosen few) would have considered to be a golden period if we had matched it.

When Yorke and Young went Cnut fc were at least in thiier pomp and we were going nowhere fast..

Now there is not a single  career / football reason for going there

Their players are good enough.  It’s the environment that is rotten.

Even this season they’ve sign a good player in Cunha, but the player he should (logically) replace has decided to stay.  Both players are now on ridiculous money with decent excuses on why they fail.

Cunha is so Manure.  He's going to have an appalling disciplinary record, duffing up various non-playing staff / stewards / fans along the way.  The continued downward spiral with the worst businessman at the helm will be a great watch - why Emi wants part of that is - apart from lining his pockets - is beyond me.
