In the Athletics article this morning, it says he is suspended and Villa knew last night;

https://theathletic.com/5426550/2024/04/19/emiliano-martinez-aston-villa-lille-loathed/

"On Thursday night, they knew and are sure Martinez will be suspended for the first leg of the semi-finals against Olympiacos."

You'd think there would be something official confirmed soon.

Look UEFA, do you really weant to ban the absolute star of the relatively new competition you've introduced on the back of a joke refereeing performance?

There's enough confusion there for them to just wave it away, I'm sure the TV companies and advertisers would be keen for the star attraction to be involved.

Paul Dempsey always used to be the presenter back in the studio so I was surprised to see he's gone into commentary.

He needs to go back, he’s an effing useless commentator.

He was absolutely awful. And was I imagining it, or did he start pronouncing Luiz as Douglash Luiz and Santos as Santosh towards the end?

Does the penalty yellow count though. Logic says yes, but logic also says he should have been off for 2 yellows. As yellows in the game were wiped before the pens, where do they fall discipline wise. QF and before. Semi finals. Twilight Zone. Does anyone know.

This is where I am.  I am 90% sure he'll be suspended, but part of my wonders if it's one of those weird things where the end of extra-time is technically the "end of the quarter-final" and the penalties exist outside of that.  But then if he'd gone and headbutted the ref, he would have got a red and definitely been suspended, so hence the 90%.

I think we have to assume Olsen will be playing in the first leg, unfortunately.

Any need? He hasn't done too badly in the last couple of appearances. Obviously he isn't the best goalie on the planet this season, but he should be enough against them at home.

Emi Martinez is the best goalie in the world, on current form.  I don't think it's unreasonable to say it's "unfortunate" that we'll have his deputy in goal for the first leg of a European semi-final?

Have never met anyone from Leicester that wasn't a bit weird.

And before anyone says it, I've never met Axl in person so that doesn't count.

He's done it in all of our games. Douglush, Tielemon..he spends ages trying to show everybody how clever he is by pronouncing everybody's names "properly". Just get on with the commentating, Alan bloody partridge. TNT as a whole is completely awful, the only decent person there is co-commentator Lucy Ward who's very good.

There was a point in extra time when he was waffling on about something and Ward, seemingly teetering on the verge of losing all patience with this fool gritted her teeth and said "...like I said before", like you do with an idiot that isn't listening to you.

I forget exactly what it was in reference to but it made me smile.

Might it be case that if Martinez had received a yellow in the first game and then two yellows in the 120 minutes of the second game he would be banned but because the penalties are outside that for yellow cards  - as clearly demonstrated last night he isn't banned?

The commentator and the idiot they have doing the post match stuff makes TNT almost unwatchable. I'm glad that whetever happens, we should be allocated people higher up the food chain next season.

If he'd received 2 yellows in the 120 mins he'd have been sent off.

Samir Nasri has now condemned his behaviour’ You stop a shot on goal, you don’t need to attack the opposing fans by telling them “shh”, frankly.’

He’s an animal I tells ya…. Attacking those poor innocent people with his indiscriminate ssh’s.

Prick.

That would be the angel Nasri. That was given a 12 month doping ban.

Yes I am aware of that thank you, but apparently people are quoting 3 yellows in the quarter final is a ban.  So yes two yellows in the 120 minutes would have been a sending off and so a ban, BUT because the card wasn't in the 120 minutes of the tie - the penalties as we know sit outside that.

I guess until UEFA clarify we don't know
