Well if we assume it's the two or three yellow accumulation rule and he did reach that limit by the end if the tie then he is banned.
But did he actually get the second booking because I didn't see the ref actually raise the card at him.

But again we are the same Aston Villa who had a penalty given against us after the half time whistle had been blown, then saved that pen which should have been the end of it only for an incompetent ref to allow a rebound to be scored and then blew for half time a second time.

They make this shit up as they go along

I doubt they are trying to, he's either banned or he isn't. I'm not sure this scenario has happened before so no one seems sure. That possibly includes UEFA as well.

The rules state that any cards don't transfer over to the semi, so if they do actually ban him for the first leg, they are setting a new precedent & they will owe Villa an explanation.

It is three yellow cards from the start of the knock-out stages to the end of the QF stage. They then reset at the SF stage so no one misses the final unless they pick up a red card. However three cards before the reset is still a one match ban. So it depends on UEFA to decide if the third card is within that period which isn't covered in the rules specifically. For example, Olympiacos miss one player because he picked up three cards in the knockout stages I believe, and another for the sending off last night.

Suspended for the first leg according to Sky.

And the BBC on the live blog.

Quote
News coming in concerning Emiliano Martinez, who had quite the night in Aston Villa's penalty shootout win over Lille in the Europa Conference League.

He received two yellow cards on the night, the second coming in the middle of the shootout which, in the Laws of the Game, meant he was allowed to stay on the pitch.

But despite saving the crucial penalty that saw Villa reach the semi-finals, he will now be suspended for the first leg against Olympiacos on 2 May.

It's for picking up three cautions during the quarter-finals, having also been booked in the first leg.

So cards get neutralised but the suspension doesn’t? Fucking hell they make this up as they go along.

Doesn't matter anyway, Robin's redemption arc is going to kick in now.

The cards being neutralised just means no one misses the final because of yellow card count and only if they pick up a red. If you pick up too many cards in the knockout stages and that would be a ban, it gets applied still. Demetri mentioned one of the Olympiacos players is also banned for three yellows since the group stages.

By his actions in booking Martinez the ref facilitated the Lille fans attempts to put Oli off his penalty.  His reasons for engaging with Luiz at precisely the time he was trying to prepare to take the crucial final penalty were also questionable.

Olsen looked fairly solid again Man City so I'm not overly worried.  I don't think he'll have a lot to do anyway...

Yeah, we'll have Emi back for the Semi-Final pens. It did state in what was used yesterday to suggest he wouldn't be banned that yellows and suspensions were wiped after the groups but when referring to the semi they leave out the suspension part, so I wasn't surprised by this. What a wank ref though, it might mean that we lose out on a goal advantage.

The fact that neither of those yellows handed out yesterday were anything other than that referee being an incompetent c**t, is part of the reason that this decision pisses me off so much.

He is so shit, his decisions are affecting a game he wont be anywhere near.
