Not one of us sees him on the training pitch day in day out. Not one of us watches him engaging with his teammates one-on-one when things are going well or badly. It might turn out to be a terrible appointment, but there is little reason to believe it was done for any other reason other than "he was the best candidate for the job" based on the above observations of the management team.People were slamming Mings last season, insisting we needed an upgrade in defence, or that he had to improve. So if he's NOT the captain, who realistically could it otherwise be? Assuming you don't want a keeper as your on-field captain.First and foremost he has to put in better performances for the team, because if he doesn't, he'll get dropped. We know he's capable of better. We've seen it. Yes, he was great in the championship. How often in the PL? People were pointing out his bad form in our first season up, then he got injured and became the messiah.

It’s a tough one. What is captain material? What a fan wants may be way different to what a team wants.
He's not played well since January in the Cup at Man United. He gives the ball away so easily.
Let’s not rewrite things here. John McGinn has paid for himself many, many times over. He’s played some superb games for us. But as we aimed higher he has shown that he’s not at the level we need. A brilliant squad player to have but he should not be starting and not captain. I thought it might elevate him but he just doesn’t have the quality.

Type of player other fans love as only see snippets
