Terrible decision to make him captain.

Should've been sent off today aswell which ironically might've helped as at least could've seen a different midfield structure next week.

This decision might be one that Gerrard regrets over time, especially when he has to drop and and needs a towel to wipe the egg off his face.  Rubbish decision, very average player.

Unfortunately, if he wanted to take it from Mings there wasn’t an alternative. This says a lot about the squad and the lack of real leaders. Now Carlos has an injury and he’s got to play Mings so that’s backfired massively. Like a lot of us when it was announced, I just couldn’t see the logic to it.

Can't play in a midfield 2 or 3 at this level. Doesn't have the technical skills or athletic ability. I must say though it really boils my piss when he is selected on the right of the three as he has to turn inside every time.

Watch him for Palaces disallowed goal, zero awareness of were Schlupp was.

Buendía for all his promise in previous matches was probably the most poor though I thought

We outbid Celtic to buy him for next to fuck all when we were in the second division. He has been good for us, but for the life of me I can't see what other people apparently can, that he's being played out of position and if we sold him he'd be going to a 'next level' club. He's a busy midfielder that should be nowhere near being a guaranteed starter for a club aiming to finish higher than 15th.

He had a couple of good games in 2019.

Let’s not rewrite things here. John McGinn has paid for himself many, many times over. He’s played some superb games for us. But as we aimed higher he has shown that he’s not at the level we need. A brilliant squad player to have but he should not be starting and not captain. I thought it might elevate him but he just doesn’t have the quality.

I'd have given it to Martinez personally. A winner with Arsenal and Argentina when he broke into their teams and likes of Lloris and Schmeichel in recent seasons have captained top 6 teams. Pretty sure Casillas and Neurer were captains when their respective countries won the world cup aswell.

I know it's all about opinions but he's not 'fucking terrible' at all. Good enough for where we want to be? Debatable. Fucking terrible? Nah.

Yes I touted for Martinez and said that on his thread pre season.
Lloris is spurs captain. Pickford Everton captain
Kasper Schmeichel was Leicester captain.

Thing is he's not played or given enough licence  in his best position enough here
McGinn needs to be played further up the pitch.
Like he does for his national team

He's been very poor for a long time, but is the first name on the team sheet and, somehow, the new captain.
