Found this online from Nov 2021:

Before taking up the role at the Mestalla Stadium last summer, Emery spoke to Sid Lowe at The Guardian and confirmed his interest in returning back to England, if a ‘good project’ became available:

"If there’s a good project in England, if someone wants me and is prepared to get behind me, I’m available…

"In England that identification with your team brings the game alive. It’s deeper there, like a church.

"I was born in San Sebastián and my team is Real Sociedad. That feeling is in my heart and that’s what you find in England.

"It’s marvellous, the loveliest thing there is.”

"Fans want their emotions to come to the surface and the only to way to make that happen is to give them a team that transmits emotion: intensity, attacking, scoring goals, competing, fighting. That awakens them. The fans want emotions.”

Love him already!
Me too!

Career win percentages:

Lorca Deportivo 48.6
Almeria 46.4
Valencia 48.6
Spartak Moscow 46.2
Sevilla 51.7
PSG 76.3
Arsenal 55.1
Villareal 50.4

Overall :
Managed 926 games 53.2% win ratio.

Europa League: 3 wins at Sevilla, 1 at Villareal, Runner up at Arsenal.
French League (1)
French Cup (2)
French League Cup (1)
French Super Cup (2)

And Villareal beat Juve and Bayern in the knock-out stages of last season's Chumps League before going out to 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' in the semis.

A tad above average?

If he achieved the lowest win percentage level here that would be at least 52 points plus whatever we'd get in draws. If he did his average it would be 60 points plus draws...

A few of us said, the next Managerial appointment would tell us about the owners ambition.

This is great news.

Putting his marvellous record to one side, I like his reputation as a good, decent bloke. I think we need a bit of that again.

Absolutely.

Feels like we've got our Villa back again.

Irrespective of Emery's obvious qualities and previous successes, I think this is a very astute appointment timing wise.

He's got 4 games to look at the squad before the World Cup break and make a general assessment of the squad quality/depth.

Then he can work with those who aren't in Qatar during the World Cup break getting his ideas/formations/tactics across before starting properly against Liverpool.

I guess he might have a few signings in mind by the time the January transfer window comes around?

In any event, post Qatar I expect there to be some real topsy-turvy results as players at clubs come back injured/knackered/jaded/disappointed etc.

Project Restart 2.0. Exciting times ahead.

How is Emery's reputation re: bringing players through the academy and integrating them in the 1st team?

Still suffering with manflu. Have a nap and wake up to this.

A proper appointment. Wishing you every success, Unai.

Great demonstration of leadership from Sawiri.
A big thank you to Danks for showing the world exactly when we needed it most, that we're not as shit as we pretend to be. Quite the opposite in fact. I'm sure Danks will be kept on as I can't see Villareal allowing all the coaching staff to leave.

Onwards and upwards!

"It's not his first language, and it doesn't matter how he pronounces it. Fuck off Lineker and leave our Unai alone!"

As someone who is trying to learn a bit of Spanish I'd just like to mention that in Spanish the letter "V" is pronounced as a "B".   (Hence this tedious reference to Unai erroneously  saying "good ebening"). Gary Lineker, a man who has lived in both Spain and Japan,  knows this only too well and will have encountered the difficulties faced by a non native speaker, especially with pronunciation. Really disappointed that he re-hashed this puerile nonsense.

He lost his first two Arsenal games, then won 11 in a row! And that was in a 22 game unbeaten spell. So hopefully he doesn't take long to get to grips with a team.

Fantastic news. Best of luck Unai.

Not sure why, but think he might be able to get the best out of Coutinho as well.

Not that many of our players will be in Qatar so I see this as a great chance to work with the squad, and integrate the knackered ones when they return.
Hopefully things could work in our favour!
