Martinez, McGinn and Watkins are our three key players. They have been with us on this journey and are still producing the goods. Youri, Konsa, Pau and Kamara have class but the above three also have that massive club influence that isn't really quanitifable.

If we can keep them I think we can 'go again' in terms of big achievements next year.

Rogers is obviously a class player but if there must be a sacrifice I would choose Rogers over those three as I feel the £80m-£100m could be reinvested to freshen the team around those three players.

You’ve picked a great 7 there. Ideally I’d like to keep Rogers, little Emi (who I’ve always been a fan of) and Cash (who I haven’t always been a fan of). Onana & Kamara are great if they can stay fit. This is why I disagree with the view that we need a massive overhaul of the squad, with one caveat - we need good wingers.

Massively agree. We have Buendia wide left and McGinn wide right. We need an alternative on each side, preferably actual wingers for when the system looks flat, and I think we're there. We may even already have one in Alysson. Then it's work on the next player in each position, probably using squad age to lead on priority, but that can be done over the next three years.

A young right back to develop under Cash too. I doubt we're upgrading there and we certainly don't need to.

^^ I’d add Mingueza and Wilson to start with, mainly for depth and economic reasons.

Is Mingueza a right back? I don't know a lot about him. If so and if he's any good, job done. Have seen Wilson a couple of times since January and he has not actually done anything. Appreciate he did a lot before January, but a bit concerned about that. Does have a high bar technically though. On the fence.

Agreed, Percy. I also reckon we need a bit more depth to the squad with players offering real competition for places.

One winger would probably do given our usual tactics (or at least we are adept at playing without one).

A Madueke that can play both wings would fit the bill.

His save from Woods on Thursday when we were 2-0 was massively important but has gone pretty much unnoticed.

I expect it has gone "unnoticed" because the on-field call was offside. (And whilst it was close I think it would have been the right call with Woods leaning far forward compared to Cash having his hand forward.) However it has been noted how good it was in the post match and this one as Emi wouldn't have known. However the big one was the other week which like the save of the season 24/25, was also forgotten because it was in a losing match. I know goals change games but we could have been 2-0 down going into Thursday without it.

Great thinking with the assist but the first Burnley goal... he's been doing that parrying back to the opposition caper for an easy tap-in since at least Monaco away last season.

I can only think it's ego - "look at me with an acrobatic save, I'm the best keeper in the world". Who's our goalie coach? Neil Cutler, whom Martínez respected hugely, would have cut this shit out months ago.

It's a bit of a goalkeeping trend. I hate it and you're right, Cutler would have put him straight.

I get that you can't always hold it, but just concede a corner if you don't think a parry will find a team-mate.

My exact thought earlier today. It is rocket science though.
