One of the very few times we’ve had a genuinely world class player in our side. Worth 5-8 points a season imo.

Keep if at all possible.

Some degree of ITK. Take it for what it's worth, if you want to, I can't give any more detail about "how".

From multiple family members - Emi and family had zero wish to move last summer initially, but the club made it clear that there was a certain level of bid that they would accept. This was more than the numbers we heard but less than most of us would have valued him at. This applied to "multiple"  players, with PSR being the presumed driver for this. It was made clear to me that Champions League and "trophies" in the near future was what he expects to be involved in and if Villa aren't going to deliver that then he would have to move but that was fine because we are there or thereabouts - I took that to mean that one season out of the Champs League was acceptable.  There was an acceptance that moving clubs is part of football and that sometimes it is clubs that move players around and everyone within the game accepts that - it is "normal". Once the discussions with Man U were happening it looked like he was going and the family started to plan accordingly, until the deal stalled.

Impression I got was that it was in the club's hands, assuming that we are playing at the highest level.

Winning something and finishing top 4 maybe that's the time for him to go, out on a high?
I think another year at Villa would be best

I don’t have any ITK but have long thought that was the situation and helps explain our form until after the window shut.

That everyone has a price thing is what we know the club do. (For the players we're prepared to let leave at any rate).I think it was probably a surprise (to him as well as us) that he was on that list. Whether that's a general club approach, a Monchi thing, or what I don't know.

Liverpool now linked. Question is, do we now feel different about him staying?

I always fully believed we seriously messed up last season with it either being said either indirectly, or players told, or something was leaked that certain players days were numbered.

In Martinez case I think he then took the initiative to orchestrate it himself. Which I couldn’t blame him.

As to the last paragraph , I think the approach to Villa was made , vibes were given that it was being negotiated and he would likely be leaving , with all the disruption started to family etc , then it stalled . I suspect that was when he tried to engineer some clarity/certainty.

My recollection is that D Viddy is responsible for sitting all players down and telling them their ‘value’.  The reasoning being that agents can act off the back of the information.

So I suspect it will still happen.

There was a player with confidence to go and tell Forest team to fuck off with their huddle to the end they have chosen, right in front of their fans. That's priceless.

He’s the best we’ve ever had in goal, he still is, he’s world class. He’s a leader, he’s a shitehouse and he’s ours. I for one will be completely gutted if he goes this summer.
If, if we can win the Europa, if we can keep Emery, why not a crack at the league and or CL. Having Emi in goals is integral in my view.
Him and McGinn are the ones that will leave the biggest holes when they are gone.

Absolutely this. Similarly, Watkins.

Don’t know how reliable this source is.
To be expected I suppose

Liverpool are interested in Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez, 33, should Brazil international Allison depart. (Tuttojuve - in Italian)

I also agree, and would question the validity of TuttiFrutti's information in Italy.

Totally agree and it’s those moments that matter.
His save from Woods on Thursday when we were 2-0 was massively important but has gone pretty much unnoticed.
