A fair bit uninformed, but yes at 33, he is nearing a crossroads.

Read the comments - they really kick the shit out of the "journo" who wrote this AND the BBC's anti-Villa, pro Greedy6 bias.

A feeble article. He is rightly taking a pasting

It definitely has the feeling of a what am I going to do for the last hour before I fuck off home about it. He’s not necessarily wrong about Martinez having some ups and downs this season and maybe losing some focus but do your pissing research if you’re going to analyse it. And I’d have a better pundit than that numpty Robinson giving his views. C- see me after class.

Yeah, Paul who doesn't think a bloke voted the best in the world in his position, twice, is world class.

I remember watching Shane Warne bowling in the ashes back in 2005 and saying to my then 16 year old son sit down and watch this because you will never see anything like it again in your lifetime

I have been watching Villa since the mid 70’s and Martinez is the best I’ve ever seen and there’s been some greats, but Martinez is truly world class, he might not be at the hight of his powers of a couple of years ago but he’s still world class

The two saves he made on Sunday were outstanding if any other goalkeeper was playing it’s a good bet they wouldn’t have got to them,
we would have people saying well the goalkeeper wasn’t at fault because no one would have got to them, but he did, that’s what he does and that’s the difference between playing European football every year and not

So here’s a heads up to everyone especially those under the age of 30, and take a bit of advise from an old man like me
enjoy this fella while you can because there’s a very good chance he’ll be the best you ever see in your lifetime

The best thing I can say about Emi Martinez is that he is one of the few - possibly only two - players I have seen for Villa who is the best in the world in their position at the time they played. The only other I can think of is Paul Mcgrath.

Now then John, didn't you say the same about John Burridge?

Great post, John and agree with every word. Since Emi's been here I've always had that okay you've beaten our defence but you still have to beat Emi. The countless number of opposition players who shrink when facing him is a testimony to his ability.

We will have keepers in the future that come in and replace Emi. But none will be Emi Martinez. Don’t let recency bias affect your memory of the greatest goalkeeper we have ever had. And not just that, he is elevated our name at a time we needed it. He has created a massive global brand for himself through his performances for his country, winning the WC and back to back Yashin awards. When he plays for Argentina he is often Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez. It’s very unlikely we will ever see that again for a Villa player or keeper to hit those heights. Yeh he has dropped a couple of clangers and who knows what the truth was behind his wanting to move on in the summer. Maybe it was started by the club due to PSR or by his agents. But that aside he has been an incredible servant to the club on many levels.

The reason you know he’s world class is because all opposition fans absolutely hate him
not very often we’ve had a player universally hated
