I assume the data Emery has is that conceding a goal is more likely than scoring one when the keeper goes up. I reckon Emi went up as he's the win at all costs type. What we don't know is if he's been told by Emery to stay back. If he has, then as much as I'd prefer Emi up there last minute when losing, he should stay back.

He’s the best keeper we’ve had in years but his time wasting is just too blatant. There’s a time and a place for it but he does it too often recently. That said his distribution today was awful.

He’s a decent keeper but I’m not sure he’s quite as good as a lot of people (himself included?) seem to think. It’s not that difficult to recruit a good goalkeeper compared to how rare top strikers are, for example. If he goes it’ll be a bit sad but not the end of the world.

Well between them Nyland and Olsen are experienced big league keepers with 105 internationals caps combined yet we all see the gulf when those two played for us in last few years.

I'm not convinced replacing a keeper with Emi's match winning quality (people will say he hasn't played that well recently but that close range save v Leeds is not a save many in this league could do and it helped us win a tight game) will be as easy as people say.

Reeks a bit of "let's just replace Grealish with 3-4 players over the pitch" and 18 months on Ings has already been and gone and Bailey and Buendia are still incredibly hit and miss.

I’m not saying it’ll be easy but it’s different compared to replacing a prolific striker or fulcrum of the side. He’s not infallible and does make mistakes and you mentioned some who have gone before him in the not too distant past and that highlights Martinez’ talents even more. We see him week in week out but we don’t view other keepers in the same way.

He’s a bit of a pantomime villain, someone who other teams focus on and it’s been a while since we’ve had a player like that and that’s part of his attraction.

I’m sick of players not wanting to be part of our club and I don’t care where they’ve come from and what they’ve won elsewhere, they’ve signed a deal so they leave on our terms.

It’s taken us years to finally appoint a manager with real pedigree and I’m all in on Unai, I’d be sorry to see Martinez go but if it comes to that I’d back the manager and it does feel as though something is brewing.

Well listening to the interview it sounds like he hadn’t told him not to go forward, just it’s not what he expects him to do.

It’s interesting to hear Emery be as honest as he has been so will be interesting to see how Martinez responds. I’d say the time wasting grates on Emery as he clear wants to play front foot football and we revert to underdogs when we have something to defend. Kicking it out of play three times also won’t help.

I personally wasn’t fussed that he came up for the corner but successful football managers will want players to play as they want so if Emery is against it then he knows more than me.

We’ll see how Emi reacts and adapts to it. The potential value in selling him and his struggles with the ball at his feet could lead to an amicable divorce this summer. We probably won’t end up with a better keeper but we would have one that fits the philosophy

Did they have a fallout at Arsenal?

It reminds me of when Houllier came in years back. Him and Friedel didn't see eye to eye at Liverpool but Brad still played every week although wasn't quite as solid. We didn't offer him a new deal and he went to Spurs and had a very good season while we were lumbered with Given on a 5 year deal.

That's a classic example of where casually letting a perfectly capable keeper just leave can destabilise things especially if you need to improve 2-3 other positions urgently as we need to.

Both Martinez and Emery need to sort out any issues they have. We can’t get world class players through the door easily so we need to keep hold of those that do. Having the money isn’t worth it.
