If the team put in as much effort today as Emi has with his match day tweet we'll be fine. https://twitter.com/emimartinezz1/status/1520326912706592769

Am observation I like to put forward in something that happening.
I noticed in matches v Man City and Man Utd and Arsenal at home where we packed the defensive area we conceded to long range goals which could have even been saved as Emi  was unsighted. Dias and Fernandes.and Saka . Have a look at them .
If we haven't learnt then we could be conceding again like this v Liverpool due to their quality in strikes and how our players are positioning themselves when defending

With this problem I've highlighted and with many players behind the ball this causes problems again in goalkeepers vision. The other issue of course is the space the dm and defence occupy without the ball.

Emi Martinez though still perhaps should have done better with them and have the players been made aware so it doesn't happen again today

What's the remedy you suggest? Bigger gloves?

It's a good point to be fair, Brian Clough cottoned onto something similar back in the day (it was probably Peter Taylor given he was a keeper but still).

Clough made a point of leaving players up the pitch, which meant oppo defenders had to stay with them, so the area was less cluttered and Shilton had an easier task to come and collect the cross.

Defensive shield . Players knowing where they need to be.
And Moss living up to his reputation of a third of his matches he officiate the home team wins

Moss hasn't sent off a home player yet but Martinez be warned as Jimenez at wolves sent off for two yellow cards in less than a minute. Wouldn't put past Moss who has temerity to double down on any time wasting our keeper does despite the JM record for home teams winning.
Last thing I want my fears of Martinez antics coming home to roost by needless sending off by Moss.

And that Clough chap was one of the best England managers if history has said. I know Smith didn't mind the whole restricted to long shots thing , sometimes as a focus for a positive.

Now under Gerrard just something that seems to happen and surprised when Martinez has not managed to save them really. This has to be something both Villa and Liverpool would have looked at.

Of course on the other side of things leaving players higher up against the high line gives us good chance on counter attacks from their corners so Emi has to be good with distribution I'd also advise him to get it down the field quickly and directly sometimes rather than a play out from the back what with Liverpool pressing front 3

Don't want to get caught out there either.

This is a bugbear of mine and I've long argued for leaving 2 or 3 players upfield to give the keeper more sight of the ball. It seems bleedin' obvious to me but the professionals don't seem to see it.

I think a lot is down to zonal marking

My guess is that there's no advantage in it because an opponent always steps in to block a quick release by the goalie.

Permission to time waste today Emi!

I won't mind so much today as he'll no doubt be on for that.
