I got to witness a striker score 80 league goals for us in 5 and a half seasons and yet he gets slated regularly.

I know xG is hated by some on here but the chance that he had early on was 0.34 so about 1 in 3. That's a good chance but not a 'he had to score and by missing he's responsible for us losing the game' one.

That said if he was more confident with his left foot I think it was easier on that side but if we're going to criticise players for having a weaker foot he's nowhere near the top of the list for that.

True. Apart from missing two sitters and getting an assist for Arsenal's second, he was okay. Came close with the header hitting the post and the was there for the tap in after Malen went all Messi for a few seconds. He wasn't alone in having a mixed game, Emi and Sanchos the obvious pair.

I guess he's always been a mixed bag, scores a great goal one minute, the next he looks like he's trying to control a rugby ball. He does have that wonderful knack of scoring though. The problem or mystery is you never quite know which chance he will bury or fluff.

Or put more bluntly, Monty is right. Watkins is a true hero and villain.

Not sure how he managed to do that when he was 30 yards up the pitch from where the ball was lost. And SJM showed how hard it is to score a tap-in when a previous player has done all the hard work.

Not sure how he managed to do that when he was 30 yards up the pitch from where the ball was lost. And SJM showed how hard it is to score a tap-in when a previous player has done all the hard work.

He set the move up allowing the ball to bounce off him 10 yards.

SJM should be shot for the miss but he aimed it straight at the keeper (sound familiar) whereas Watkins had a 10cm tap in to an empty net, keeper already beaten.

The way we played second half those two missed chances
would have been a consolation, not that I’m defending him, but we were so bad and totally unrecognisable.

When we beat them at home, with a full squad when they rallied for a short time after the break we managed to take control. Having no Kamara, Onana, Torres and Cash was too much.

I reckon if we had Guessand available he’d have been at right back and done far better than Garcia and we would have had another option as soon as Onana wasn’t able to come back out.

Agree Ian. We had our big chances in the first half and fluffed our lines. So annoying even today.

Yep, it’s gutting to have to go there last night and lose the way we did after our amazing run. When you saw them celebrating at the end though, we know we’ve rattled them, so we just have to get back to our game and keep on their heels.

There’s no shame in the result in the circumstances, but still it’s annoying.
