There's far more examples of it going tits up after selling our best players for big money than there are of it working out well.

Although then we had Ellis just seeing the pounds, or Lerner just not being bothered. And mostly against the managers wishes.

However the last example of selling off big was Grealish who we used the funds to get Emi2 and Bailey (as well as Ings but we didn't lose out too much on that). But the player didn't want to stay and the manager was ok letting him go. Under Emery/Monchi, I don't have any problem with his decisions to let a player go.

We sold Platt years ago and used the proceeds to win a couple of trophies.  Whilst we'd like to keep the likes of Ollie and Luiz, and of course many others in the squad, if selling them leads to glory days, so be it.  Unai will have carefully considered who can go and who he is capable of bringing in.  I trust Unai and Monchi.
For me Ollie must stay at all costs, Luiz not so much.

For me both are vital players and part of our spine that we have to keep at all costs

I'd have fairly major concerns about letting Emi or Douglas Luiz go.

Less about most of the others.

Carlos would be one I'd be relaxed about leaving, assuming we get a decent fee for him.

If Mings is back next season, him, Pau and Konsa is a pretty good trio - and we can then look for a promising young defender or a Bosman as backup.

Players such as Emi, Watkins, McGinn are essential to the way we play and hard to improve on, most others maybe.

They are pretty unique in the way they play as well, so we wouldn't really be able to replace them easily.

I believe that ambition going to be high calibre signings so do need to be bringing in Champions League level players . We are now operating within the highest level so we require much strength in a competitive squad.
However, if Chambers sold and Lenglet leaving then perhaps a  promising young player such as Ronnie Edwards 20 could be brought in his contract expires 2025 so could buy him then loan him back or maybe get him free end of next season.

But all the talk is about Athletico Madrid's Mario Hermoso, who has Champions League experience and is expected to join on a free transfer. That makes sense regards no transfer fee.
It may even see Digne leave due to Hermoso being adapt at left back. Seems he'll fit straight into Emery system

So selling a Champions League-experienced centre back like Carlos would have to be replaced by someone of that calibre.
I believe the club gave Carlos a season to recover from his injuries and then planned to sell him. Furthermore, his contract expires in 2026, so this summer may be an ideal moment to sell.

I wonder whether we'll sell Carlos and bring Hermoso in on a Bosman to replace him. Then we'd have 4 quality CB's and some money to spend elsewhere.
