I think we all agree on that.

But citing the late goal in opposition to Smirker’s arguments against Ollie or blaming the defence is a poor line of reasoning.

Is it? It was all about how many goals he scores for months then he gets 5 in 6 and now some of them don't count because he missed chances earlier in the game? Give over, it's once again this thread being all about 1 person who just can't take a fucking break.

I’d be inclined to say ….

He scores in bursts but on average he scores 1 goal every 2.5 games.  Thats better than pretty much everyone but the very best.

Arguably that puts us in contention for Champions league rather than the title.

It is what it is, to cite a cliche, and we have no other options given FFP - so the moaners should shut the F**k up.

but he scored and that was all that mattered to you for months when people were talking about all the other stuff he brings. You can't shift the goalposts to make it just about goals and then immediately shift them again when he starts scoring because all that does is show that all you care about is winning the argument, and it's fucking boring.

I couldn't agree more.  We are 3rd in the league with a squad that is punching well above its wight and talent.  Every single player, however, has made a contribution in that period.  Missed chances, given silly fouls or tackles, made mistakes, it happens.  The only consistent thing is that Smirker is a boring fucker.

People having a hard time understanding why scoring at 0-0 and scoring at 4-0 down are so different.

The game was well over by the time he got his consolation goal, which was partly his fault for his lack of quality in the first half.

Nobody with eyes can disagree with this.

And no he wasn't the only one. Martínez was shit. The Sanch was shit. Rogers was shit.
I have eyes, I disagree with you.
Coming on this thread has become a weird form of smirker sado masochism for me. I think I’ll depart this particular thread even if Ollie goes on a scoring spree now, which seems pretty inevitable to me, given his streakiness. Have fun with the circular debate

"Starts scoring"

He's got 6 in 26.

His goalscoring is still shit.

You didn't answer the question.

He was shit tonight and you know it.

So you think his lack of quality didn't partly affect the outcome of the game and we were still in with a chance at 4-0 down when he scored?

Really?

He had a mixed game.

As I said on the match thread, he was very energetic in the first half and looked up for it but showed no quality and that was what cost us going ahead.

It isn't the reason we lost, but it would have changed the game had he scored.

Second half nowhere to be seen but most of them were the same.

This is not controversial in any way.

Missed the chance that really mattered. He did okay after that. Still looks off the pace at times and feels like the weak link in a side who are all performing very well.

Barring Brighton and Chelsea where he was excellent. Sadly, he’s been carried this season and he knows it.

Glad he's scored tonight and seems to have started to find his scoring boots generally, but my god that chance he missed at nil-nil. Could have made a huge difference.
