In all the interviews about the record yesterday I didn’t spot any sort of ‘and hopefully many more to come’ comments. Either from Ollie or Unai. I really hope he doesn’t leave in the summer.

Think that video of Vidagany and Emery giving him that shirt, Emery finishes of by saying something like "...and more, and more, and more".

Oh nice, thank you I’d missed that one but just found it on X. I’m sure Emery knows it will be very very difficult to find anyone who fits our ‘structure’ as well as Ollie.

I’ve not been his biggest fan over the years so I cant pretend otherwise
But this is a fantastic achievement for him, he’s scored some very crucial and important goals for us yesterdays included

it’s also nice that the one that broke the record is a proper strikers goal and in my opinion one of his best

Dwight wasn’t available to share a message seeing as he’s in 3rd? Is he still mad at the club for not making him manager?

Interesting words from him yesterday about how playing for England in the summer really impacted his season. He said he was tired mentally and physically, and it disrupted him more than he thought it would.

I rest my case.

Players with 50+ goals and 25+ assists since 2022/23 in Europe’s top 5 leagues:

— Ollie Watkins
— Mo Salah

Carefully selected stat to make his output look better than it is.

Strikers with 50+ goals on that period:

Guirassy
Haaland
Salah
Gyokeres
Isak
Kane
Mbappe
Lewandowski
L. Martínez
Sorloth
J. David

There are also going to be players who will average that number over three seasons but have only just broken into their teams.

This idea that we can't do better is crazy.

The stat isn’t carefully selected at all. It intentionally includes assists which means we still scored from his contribution. What a bizarre position to take.

Assists are a flawed stat. You dribble past two players and play a through ball to someone who squares it and the player who squared it gets the assist. Yet the player who created the goal was the one who dribbled past and played the through ball.

Also why not include chances created, pre-assists or key passes?

People intentionally include assists with Ollie because they know his goal record isn't good. So you have to pad it out with other shit to make it look better.

Averaging 15 goals a season for 5 seasons in the PL isn't good?

People intentionally include assists with Ollie because they know his goal record isn't good.

He's scored 17 goals so far this season with two matches to play, after scoring 27 last season.

"Not good" indeed.

No. It's about par for a decent PL striker.

Above that and you'd be approaching top striker level, which he isn't, but people argue that he is.

Across all competitions he's 1 in 3, which also isn't good.

He's scored 17 goals in 52 games. Do you think that's a good strike rate?
