This seems to be as much as we know, thanks Chelts.

And the first thing the Evening Mail jump on: is the fucking buy back clause!  Can’t you just be happy you fucking morons!

Welcome Douglas.  This is the most excited I’ve been over a player since I last shit my pants.

The buy back clause doesn’t worry me. He is just the player we need at the moment and if Citeh do want him back hopefully we will make them pay top dollar. I trust this current set up to have a decent clause inserted.
I dunno.  If it's a work permit fudge then I doubt City will have been prepared to build in a big uplift.  It won't be less than £15m.  I suspect it won't be a huge amount more either.  If it goes well it will have been a cheap loan of what could be a very important player for us.  If he plays well and helps us stay up, it will have been well worth it.

Yep. It is double money and a few more for good luck.
I don't know, but If a player has a WP for the uk then that's it. He has a WP. Is there any case where has one for one club, but couldn't sign for another one in the same league?
I dont understand the work permit machinations but there is a huge uplift on the buy back for us regardless.

Ok for the terminally thick -  namely me

We have bought him off man city (so we own him) for £15m directly. If he turns out to be brilliant Man city can

A/ just say we want him now and pay the £15m we paid and he goes
B/ As A but with an alternate higher fee already agreed
C/ Other teams can try to buy him but Man city have first refusal.
D/ If he is not what we expect he is ours and Man city can refuse to take him.

Any of that right?

I think B comes in a year Bob, and the fee will rise again after 2 years. Do I win £5?

Yes - it will be B.

We would never accept scenario A as we would take 100% of the risk for no benefit...

What type of player is he?

Defensive midfielder, very comfortable on the ball, likes to find space and pick out a pass.
Exactly what we need!!!

Er - we don't 'own' him...!

I thought we paid a transfer fee, no mention of loan fee, so surely he is our player?

"Owning" him is a bit of a weird way to put it though? Do you regard your employers as "owning" you?

Is "Have we bought him" wrong as well.

It's not that. The general consensus is this is more a deal for a few seasons to help him get a work permit for City when they buy him back...which if he does as well as they think, they will.

It's different for footballers, though, talking about a club 'owning' a player is standard footballspeak.

Is it that common? I think the idea is implied but actually outright stating ownership isn't something I can recall seeing all that often. I think phrases like "we've got him" and "he's one of us" are common, along with various deviations around those ideas but "we own him" doesn't come up all that often (in my opinion).

Villa own part of your soul, why can't we own one of Doug Louie's dreadlocks?
