Did the young Turk move back home permanently or just on loan?

Loaned out to Anderlecht last autumn, played 6 games before dropping down to their academy side - 4 appearances.

Came back in January, but then went out to Besiktas on loan, but has only played in 2 cup games.

Villa reported that it's a loan with a buy obligation.

Previously highly rated so a pity it’s not worked out on either of his loans and I suppose it was always a big ask for him to make an impression with us, although it seems he was given very little chance.

Like several young 'uns that we've briefly had; a great shame that we haven't worked with more of them to develop their skills. Both Ozcan and the young serb had already played internationally so clearly have something ... Barrenechea is being touted as a possible call-up to the Argentinian WC squad. Both Iling-Junior and Elliott played for the England U21's team which won tournaments ...

Although Woltermade was very good at the U21 tournament in question as well.

If Paus is being saved for the final, then start Lindy instead of Mings on Friday.

Nope, that makes defeat much more likely. We can't have Mings starting Friday.

I think that Pau vs. Mings debate has, sadly, been put to bed.

Yeah but no but but numbers and stuff.

Yeah. Results are irrelevant.

The results were being brought out every couple of days last year.

Is there a reason you randomly stopped the statistical analysis of the Konsa / Pau vs Konsa / Mings thing?

Yes. I thought it had probably stopped starkly disproving accepted “wisdom”.

When the facts change etc.

You still want Ty and Ez at the back "going forward" (well, sideways)?

kv isn't advocating have Mings start on Friday, although Lindy would be missed in front of the back 4 where Wirtz likes to play.

No. They no longer achieve demonstrably better results than the current first-choice pairing, although they used to in Ty’s slightly younger days, even as recently as last season.

I’m not interested in vibes, or individual players. I was being sarcastic about Paulie’s numbers ‘jibe’ because I used to post a lot about goals conceded which, while they are indeed numbers, are quite important in football. Fewer goals conceded tends to lead to more points. But that’s just more bloody numbers I suppose.

Thought Mings was less ponderous than he had been of late, as though someone had given him the memo about passing forward faster and more often, even though the back pass at the end was a bit of a choker.

He looked to be visibly struggling in the final portion of the game (which may explain the back pass at the end, incidentally - he may have just been too knackered to do anything else).

Going forward into the business end of things, what are the options at LCB?

Judging by fitness alone, Mings does not look like he has another 90 minutes in his locker this week.

Equally, Torres hardly (?) ever plays 2 games within the week after more or less November, when niggles creep in.

So something's going to have to give.

Do we have any left-sided defenders coming through of note?

Hopefully of a higher standard than the last few, albeit they were alright at times, but Baker and Clark aren't what we need 😂
