Quote from: Flin5tone on July 27, 2022, 06:51:30 PMAbsolutely baffled by this decision? Was expecting him to be a substitute next season to be honest.....VERY worryingIt is baffling, not sure about VERY worrying.Logically, if he had already made his mind up about Mings, who else was he going to pick? Neither Ings or Watkins, as both will be interchangeable/droppable. Coutinho - not the right character. Buendia - still establishing himself. Ramsay - too young. Kamara - too new. Digne - too French (joke). Cash - about the only other person I could think of, but doesn't seem vocal enough. I can only think McGinn was his only choice and that he won't be afraid to drop him, much in the same way he wasn't afraid to take the captaincy from Mings.

Quote from: Paul.S on July 27, 2022, 05:19:42 PMJust because someone’s captain, it doesn’t mean they are guaranteed a game if they aren’t performing. Personally, I couldn’t care who it is and it’s not as big a deal as it used to be.This is true. I’ll add, Mings will behave like a captain in any case just like when Grealish was captain.

I'm fuming
Martinez is vice captain, Ashley Young is club captain.Wonder what this means for Mings?

I think he likes having an outfield player as his captain, but we literally have no one who you could say is a guaranteed starter who is also captain material. I would imagine we’ll see Martinez as the on field captain a reasonable amount this season… it takes away all the uncertainty when meatball isn’t on the pitch, because barring injury, Emi definitely will be…

I would have just given Martinez the captaincy, if vice needed then choose on the day with A.Young given the Club Captain roleI'm fuming
Mings was one our best players last season, he wasn’t shit?
Quote from: ChicagoLion on July 27, 2022, 05:44:36 PMMy worry is that signals that we are going to set up as last season with SJM in no mans land and Mings and Watkins up front.Or worse, Ings and WatkinsThis is whats giving me the sinking feeling - that this season will just be a re-run of last oneMcGinn is a good player - if used right - I dont think that the way that SG wants his team to play suits his strengths. Having Kamara may help, but to me he is SGM is worse than Luiz and Ramsey
