Feel a bit for Mings, but I remember saying on here around the time he first got the captaincy that I thought it might hinder his game slightly. Club Captain would have been a better call instead of Young.

Club captain tends to be the older, wiser professional though. It would also have probably been seen as a bit of a token effort to give him that after taking the captaincy off him, like being made hall monitor after being head boy.

It does look that way possibly but we'll see. If it improves his game then fair enough.

It appears to be pretty much a ceremonial role given to the most experienced bloke who isn't rocking the boat.

I suppose and it's a role he could always move into once Young retires, if he's still here that is.

That’s the thing, he is captain now so will start every game if available.

Seems a pointless and unnecessary snub to Mings for me.

Or it shows that this is Gerrard's team and nobody's place is guaranteed.

Unless you are named John McGinn.  I really think this is a terrible decision and could have team repercussions as it firmly endorses his role as being undroppable

It is baffling, not sure about VERY worrying.

Logically, if he had already made his mind up about Mings, who else was he going to pick?  Neither Ings or Watkins, as both will be interchangeable/droppable.  Coutinho - not the right character.  Buendia - still establishing himself.  Ramsay - too young.  Kamara - too new.  Digne - too French (joke).  Cash - about the only other person I could think of, but doesn't seem vocal enough. 

I can only think McGinn was his only choice and that he won't be afraid to drop him, much in the same way he wasn't afraid to take the captaincy from Mings.

Yes, team captain is a role for during a game but club captain has a responsibility across the whole squad.

I'm not baffled by it,  I can see why he's done it. Maybe he sees a bit of McGinn in himself and having been a midfield playing captain for Liverpool, maybe he thinks it's what works best. Having said that, I haven't got a clue who his captain was at Rangers.
