I don't think Mings was great Captain material, not vocal enough and too accepting of referees going against us.

First time I've seen Mings labelled as not being vocal enough. When there were no crowds, all I could hear was him shouting at players.

Not vocal enough…without him we’re virtually a team of mutes.

I can see Gerard's reasoning but still a bit of a surprise, hopefully being captain will improve SJM's game.

I would say Mings never hide, I think we lack leaders and he was one of the few that never gave up (though not saying he always concentrated).

I was expecting us to get in another player who would become captain.

I think its a decent decision and it will allow Mings to focus on his game instead of all the extra curriculars that come with being captain

Having Kamara behind will improve SJM's game.

Not vocal enough, really?

Arguably McGinn's best game last season was away at Palace when he had Nakamba doing the defensive work and was allowed to get forward.

Yeah, bit odd really. He's very vocal.

Feel a bit for Mings, but I remember saying on here around the time he first got the captaincy that I thought it might hinder his game slightly. Club Captain would have been a better call instead of Young. Pleased for McGinn though.

Or maybe Gerrard doesn’t think he should be a regular starter?

Apparently being captain has the opposite effect.

Apologies in advance for my ignorance, but what does the Club Captain role filled by Young do exactly?
