I would have hoped they would have acted before we got into this mess.

None of us would have said we were in a mess in the summer so I’m not sure that’s fair.

Tbf Chris  the longer the window was going and all we saw were players leaving and no newbies were coming in, then misisng out certain players and ending up linedlof and sancho the warning signs were there

They reacted too late. When Monch left to save his old team, a clear dereliction of duty, the message should have been dont come back. The window has slammed shut now we're going to have to limp along till Jan. a couple of injuries and the seasons a write off.

That’s not quite true but more importantly those inside the club should have been closer to events.
The problems have been the result of multiple transfer windows not just this summer.

As early as mid June we were talking about how flat it felt, how the messaging was off and I think I even said it felt a bit like the latter Lerner years. The whole summer people thought there was a problem. The only issue there is that by the summer it's far, far too late. Making the decision now, quickly, gives a chance to replace and rebuild.

If we'd sacked him in June I'm pretty certain things would've been a lot worse. If the noise of this being amicable is true I suspect that's when planning for his successor started but him going during the window was never an option.

Yeah, i’d think it would cause even more chaos if you sacked the transfer guy immediately before (or during) a transfer window and brought in someone else who was completely unprepared for it.

Olabe said he was off last winter, didn’t he? Seems plausible that discussions have been ongoing for a while but we’ve tried to minimise disruption.

Obviously, but they would have known the impact of his transfer dealings long before June.

After the FAC semifinal would have been doable. It's not like the new guy is going to start with a blank piece of paper (metaphorically).

The concern is that it might run on longer than this season though.  It was becoming apparent in the second half of last season that time was beginning to catch up on the nucleus of players that were at the club before Emery arrived and although this season has only just begun, those concerns are still there.

We're probably looking at a big rebuilding job over the next few windows, so things might take longer to get right.

I think that's unfair.  They cannot magic offers for players from nowhere and clearly we needed income before we could spend.

The error, in my opinion, was basing the business plan on having champions league money every season.

Was that the business plan though, surely they’d have worked through scenarios for each of the 3 European eventualities.

I’m not sure we would have been any better off if we’d qualified for the Champions League either as that’s all future income, our fines and restrictions from UEFA have all been for historic breaches so anyone thinking this summer plays out differently would be very much mistaken.

But our revenue fir this financial year would be very different and it is this financial period that will have restricted transfer activity 30/6/25
To 30/6/26.

But the restrictions are based on our historic breaches 23 and 24 calendar years (?) so even with increased income this 25 calendar year I’m not convinced we’d have ended up being able to strengthen in the way we wanted to even with CL qualification.

Bearing in mind Vidaganays comments the day before the Utd game makes me think whichever way it went we were in trouble for fines and sanctions. I suppose the advantage of CL qualification would have been we could show increased revenue at calendar year 25 and maybe have exited UEFA sanctions earlier. As it is Europa League still gives us the opportunity to exit next summer assuming we go deep in the competition and massively improve our League status.

Aligning the PL and UEFA compliance years will also massively help with unpicking this nonsense as well.
