Tbf Chris  the longer the window was going and all we saw were players leaving and no newbies were coming in, then misisng out certain players and ending up linedlof and sancho the warning signs were there

That’s not quite true but more importantly those inside the club should have been closer to events.
The problems have been the result of multiple transfer windows not just this summer.

As early as mid June we were talking about how flat it felt, how the messaging was off and I think I even said it felt a bit like the latter Lerner years. The whole summer people thought there was a problem. The only issue there is that by the summer it's far, far too late. Making the decision now, quickly, gives a chance to replace and rebuild.

If we'd sacked him in June I'm pretty certain things would've been a lot worse. If the noise of this being amicable is true I suspect that's when planning for his successor started but him going during the window was never an option.

Yeah, i’d think it would cause even more chaos if you sacked the transfer guy immediately before (or during) a transfer window and brought in someone else who was completely unprepared for it.

Olabe said he was off last winter, didn’t he? Seems plausible that discussions have been ongoing for a while but we’ve tried to minimise disruption.

Obviously, but they would have known the impact of his transfer dealings long before June.

The concern is that it might run on longer than this season though.  It was becoming apparent in the second half of last season that time was beginning to catch up on the nucleus of players that were at the club before Emery arrived and although this season has only just begun, those concerns are still there.

We're probably looking at a big rebuilding job over the next few windows, so things might take longer to get right.

I think that's unfair.  They cannot magic offers for players from nowhere and clearly we needed income before we could spend.

The error, in my opinion, was basing the business plan on having champions league money every season.
