It seems a bit of a fuss over nothing to me, yes they've removed the 'course record' from the front page. But every athletes individual result is as it was, your time, your pb, your age grade. And if you want to find a course record, then it is still there on it's own page under event history, along with every single winner sortable by date or if you want to see the course record then by male or female winners time.

It's not just the course records, there were loads of other stats as well. But the fact that they've left all the course results up as you say, rather negates their argument of "it's not a race guv, and the results are off putting to new runners." As I said before, I do think they were caught between a rock and a hard place, but the answer wasn't really to just pull all the stats and then lie about the reason for doing so.

But anyway, what's done is done, and it's still a great event. I'm using your plan both as a plan for my half marathon Jon, but also on my next push to get sub 23 minutes for the 5K. I showed it to my PT and her words were "this person knows his stuff." So thanks again mate.

Always good to hear positive feedback and of course hear about athletes success.

“Athlete”! 😂

Did a 16K long run today, didn’t enjoy it. Possibly a combination of going a bit hard at my 5K park run yesterday, and/or not fuelling properly today. Feel absolutely dead on my feet tonight whatever it was. How on earth do people run marathons and longer?!

On the marathon tip, the ballot for New York opens this week.

On March 1st 2023, started jogging again after a fair few years of just sitting on the settee - i try to go out running every other day (knee and ankle pain dictate this)

I have enjoyed it and I am feeling fitter, but I can still only run for between 30 - 40 mins.

Are there any running experts on here, that can advise on how to build up my running time to an hour?

Practice! Gradually increase the distance and you’ll be fine. You will be surprised how quickly you improve. When I first started in May 2012 I couldn’t run to the corner of our street. By the October I’d done a half marathon.

As Richard says, just gradually increase your distance.

The biggest thing I’ve learned is that you need to mix it up. A long run, a shorter easy run and some interval training in the same week and your stamina and speed will increase no end.

An old work colleague popped up on Strava in May last year as he was doing a couch to half marathon training. His first run was a mile and took 14 mins, which as most know is a fast walk more then running. I think he was following Apple + training plan but sometimes would just do core training, yoga, intervals, rest week, etc. By the end of the that month he was doing 3 miles at 12minute miles.

By the end of the year he was pretty much doing half marathons but his first official one was the Portsmouth in December. His time was disrupted as his running partner got injured and he walked her to a station. So he did an unofficial one on Xmas day at sub 2 hour pace.

End of Jan he did an "easy" 4 mile warm up run before a 5km park run which he did in 23minutes.

He is now planning for the Worthing half.

After more than 25 years i decided to start running again today. Im 52 years young and after a knee injury last year my weight has hit 95kg (15 stones) and i'm only 5 7 and a bit tall. I ran/walked 3.12k, it took me forever (over 28 mins). I really struggled but enjoyed it, my youngest ran with me and talked the whole time!, i couldn't talk i was blowing that much. The only worry was my heart rate topped out at 199 bpm at one point.
My plan is to do 3k every day fast walking and running where possible

Same age as me. Just take it easy to start with, and build up gradually. Rather than doing that 3K every day, maybe do a structured couch to 5K. If the first few weeks are a bit easy, skip a few and go straight to week 4 or whatever you can manage. If you're mainly walking to start with, everyday is great, but if you're doing more running I'd leave a day inbetween to recover. And don't worry about how long it takes you at this stage, getting out there is far more important.

You set off in May 2012 and finished a half marathon in the October? Had they not packed everything away by then?

Thanks for all the advice, as I am 60 in a few months have to be careful, as I don't want to over do it, and collapse at the side of the road (although I do run past the ambulance station so that is a comfort)

I went out yesterday and ran for 45 mins although there is a hill that I try to run up that seems to be like climbing Mount Everest (hopefully I will get to the top of the hill in the next few months)

I must admit I do really enjoy the running, and feeling far fitter and lighter than i did in February 2023.

Nice one Sid, good for you. 45 minutes is a decent effort and if you can do that you can probably do a 10K.

Me and my eldest lass did our longest ever run together yesterday, 18K. It went much better (and faster) than last week's 16K as I got some proper energy down me this time.
