surprised Tielemans isn't starting. Clearly Bailey and Diaby will be asked to use their pace to get behind the Newcastle back line. Solid bench

-
That's a nice strong line up!
-
Diaby and Bailey, can't say we aren't going for it.
-
Good to see the kids on the bench.
-
Better font choice and overall design on the team graphic. Confidence has gone up just because of that.
-
Don't like it. It should have been Tielemans instead of bailey starting. Far too risky selection playing them up there.
-
Good to see the kids on the bench.
It is, but also kind of necessary. Would look a lot stronger with Moreno, J Ramsey, Buendia, and Dendonker on there. That said, from what we saw in preseason I wouldn't mind any of those there today getting a run out.
-
Diaby and Bailey, can't say we aren't going for it.
Yes, more of an attacking line-up than I expected.
-
Blast them a new one, then shut up shop!
-
Don't like it. It should have been Tielemans instead of bailey starting. Far too risky selection playing them up there.
Agreed. Exact same line up including subs I went for.. .apart from Tielemans and Bailey.
-
Worst thread title ever.
-
Bailey? FFS!
-
Worst thread title ever.
Where's that Ulster fry-up?
-
I think I'd rather start Bailey and have Tielemans to come on and shake things up if things go wrong. Not sure I'd be filled with confidence if we're losing and have to look to Bailey to change things.
-
Worst thread title ever.
Disagree, sets it up nicely for the post-match thread (if we win).
-
Worst thread title ever.
Where's that Ulster fry-up?
Ulster fry-up? FFS!
-
Would have started with Tielemans for Bailey, but otherwise happy with the team, good bench.
-
Anthony Gordon looks like Paul O'Grady's half-brother and Watkins is twice the player Isak is. Come on boys.
-
Worst thread title ever.
That's really inviting a whole season of increasingly worse thread titles now.
-
My new home training top arrived an hour ago....its a sign
Best form of defence is attack and thier defence are huge but slow. Could be another tactical masterclass.
We also have have plenty of variety off the bench
Come on you villa boys
-
Said it many times last season - Unai loves Bailey.
-
Worst thread title ever.
That's really inviting a whole season of increasingly worse thread titles now.
Yep. Job done
-
Ooh, I haven't been to a party for a while. I've brought a Watney's party 7 :)
-
All so 2022. We need classic.
-
What time is PWS on?
-
Very strange selection, seems to be a 433. If it is then I really dont understand moving McGinn from a position he had a field day against these last year.
-
Time for Bailey to start delivering.
-
Eek, have a bad feeling. I mean, what is the first day of the season for if not to violently burst Villa fans' optimism?
-
I don’t tend to watch highlight reels on YouTube but that one Sky just put on for Diaby was very good.
-
Don't like it. It should have been Tielemans instead of bailey starting. Far too risky selection playing them up there.
suprised he hasnt started Tielemans for Bailey.
Bailey better have a stormer
-
I suppose Bailey has been involved in some important goals and assists but he looks like me trying to play football with the kids on the municipal pitch. Useless, chasing shadows and likely to break an arm or an ankle.
He'll probably have a blinder now.
-
I suppose Bailey has been involved in some important goals and assists but he looks like me trying to play football with the kids on the municipal pitch. Useless, chasing shadows and likely to break an arm or an ankle.
He'll probably have a blinder now.
Yep, he now needs to shit or get off the pot.
-
Surprised daiby and Bailey - think one might ah e been on the bench if Beundia hadn’t exploded -
-
Really happy Torres isn't at left back, not so happy about Bailey. Hopefully I'll be eating some custard with my humble pie.
-
Surprised daiby and Bailey - think one might ah e been on the bench if Beundia hadn’t exploded -
His injury is worse than I thought!
-
I wonder if Diaby might play slighter deeper in the 10 role and drop into spaces. We shall see.
-
It's weird we've spent £60-odd million on centre halves and neither is currently displacing Mings or Konsa. Fair play to those two.
Anyway, good to be back watching football. UTV.
-
Good atmosphere up there. We need to shut their crowd up nice and early.
-
Would've preferred a box midfield today or at least McGinn out wide.
If it's Diaby on the left he's going to need to track back constantly as we'll be on the backfoot a fair bit with Almiron and Trippier that side.
Fair to say I'd be happy with a point today. Good thing is you look at both teams and it looks very evenly matched back to front so when was the last time you could say we arguably had as good a team as one that's just finished 4th in the premier league?
-
Win please.
-
Good atmosphere up there. We need to shut their crowd up nice and early.
All I could hear was the Beatles …
-
If you were a neutral this would be the most exciting game of the weekend, I think.
-
Fuerza Emi!
-
Nice touch, Fuerza Emi.
Same shit co-commentators, who talk utter shit.
-
Nice touch
-
This overblown noise-fest is everything I hate about modern football
-
That Tonali has an impressive nose to face ratio.
-
Emery already told off.
-
That Tonali has an impressive nose to face ratio.
His gums to teeth ratio is huge, too.
-
Sort it out!
-
Fucks sake. New season optimism lasts a long time...
-
That didn't take long ffs
-
Bollox.
-
Can someone change the title of this thread? It's asking for it.
-
wheres the defence
-
Damn, they've started really well.
-
FFS!
-
They’re going right at Bailey. I think he’s too deep for how we play.
-
digne get your head in there ffs
-
They look good. Testicles
-
Saw the line up and thought fuck, west up all wrong.
-
FFS. Dreadful start, we’ve been shire all over the pitch.
-
Fuckers. And Bailey at fault.
-
Fucking Bailey AGAIN
-
Good save Emi. We're getting battered at the moment.
-
Bailey started shit
-
Bailey is fucking wank.
-
Slack to leave Tonali alone like that.
-
Poor from Bailey. Let Gordon go. Lousy!
-
This is ominous. Great save EMI
-
On Luiz, he tried to stay down for a free, by the time he got up he lost his man who shot
-
Either they are miles on the pace or we are miles off it.
Bailey - what is the point
He better make some changes or else it will be half a dozen
-
I don’t recognize this team..
-
No one on Tonali. And nearly a second.
-
Another great save by emi.
-
And gives it away again. Sub him off now, waste of a shirt.
-
Fuck sake. The last thing we need is to play up the media fucking love for those pricks by rolling over like this
-
Why was Watkins jogging there? Should have went with Diaby on the run.
-
We've give the Sky build up and commentary what they want só far. Wake the fuck up.
-
Fucking hell, didn't realise Dougie was booked too.
-
Tonali will probably score three goals this season
-
Bailey off, Tielemans on please.
-
Cash and Bailey down that side is very easy to exploit - Ashley Young covered a lot of that stuff up 2nd half of last season.
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
gooallll
-
DIABBBBBYYYYY
-
Tonali will probably score three goals this season
Trust us to let him adapt to the speed of the 'best league in the world of the UK™
-
Get in!
-
Get In!!!!!
-
Have we just not turned up or are Newcastle actually steaming?
-
Get the fcuk in!
-
YESSSSSSSSSSS
-
Ha ha.
-
Rubbish
Not switched on at the back.
Don't seem switched on anywhere.
I've muted the sound of my stream as it's been a wankfest since before kickoff. Next step will be to throw my phone into the lake
-
We turned up then 😂
-
GETTTTT INNNNN!!!!!!
-
Oh get in!
-
AHHHHHHH!
-
Smashed it - BOOM
Shot defending by them this time
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ive missed this over the summer :)
-
The lake can wait!
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
FFS!
I mean YÉeeeeeeeès!
-
Blow it up now ref, I'll take 1-1
-
Great decision by Watkins.
-
Great stuff. what a fantastic placement.
-
Right now stop fucking around and funeral these.
-
Rubbish
Not switched on at the back.
Don't seem switched on anywhere.
I've muted the sound of my stream as it's been a wankfest since before kickoff. Next step will be to throw my phone into the lake
Fucking hell mate. Disappointed in you in that you are not throwing an octopus in someone’s face.
-
Brilliant goal. good build up and lovely finished!
UTFV
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
FFS!
I mean YÉeeeeeeeès!
Ha
-
Right, when our midfield arrives we might win this.
-
Well after a shocking start we’re back in the game.
-
Atmosphere there has completely died.
-
Diaby class finish there
great move to be fair
hes goning to score a few this season
great Emi kept us in it
-
Sick of Alé /Allez/ Oyé already.
-
The tippy tappy goal kicks still need some work
-
Still really bloody sloppy.
-
FFS, 2-1. Isak.
-
Sick of Alé /Allez/ Oyé already.
It’s a bit shit
-
Jesus fucking mary.
-
FFS
-
Get in. Diaby looks special.
-
Atmosphere there has completely died.
Yep, love it.
-
wtf shite
-
That is surely offside.
-
From the BBC Speek You're Brains comments:
Why has Emery played Mings and Konsa when we have Torres and Diego Carlos? Confused.
Stephen
I don't know where to start with that.
-
must be an ooffside there
-
Axl reaching for that octopus…..
-
FFS.
-
FFS
-
That'll be later, mate 😂
My commentary just unmuted itself on its own. Jimmy Nail prattling on.
I hate Newcastle. Come on Villa!
-
that high line again
-
Damn.
-
That's miles offside surely
-
That has to be offside
-
VAR gives the goal
-
Fucking hell
-
Looks well offside in the replay.
-
How sloppy are we being at the back here?
-
shite defending there
-
Same bullying Newcastle as last season then.
-
Has to be offside.
-
VAR gives the goal
DAMN.
-
Now we'll see what we're made of.
-
The only two who were on side were the two involved. Well timed runs
-
was cash not fouled being screened?
-
Wankers
-
This high line against better teams is going to kill us. We've got to be cuter than this.
-
Looked off
-
Fuck this
-
Crap so far
-
It’s not offside by the rules. Fucking shite. We have been incredibly sloppy so far.
-
we can still score goals here tho
-
At least three players standing offside including the one who passed to the goal scorer. What are these fuckers looking at?
-
Feels like we haven't gotten the ball down and passed it at all yet.
-
we need to toughen up, soft and slow. Pricks.
-
VAR is utter shit. Quite a clear foul on Cssh, which prevents him from challenging for the ball. If you're going to look at it, do it properly. They won't though will they! Crap defending for the goal and three offside.
-
At least three players standing offside including the one who passed to the goal scorer. What are these fuckers looking at?
I'd love to know. I no longer understand offside.
-
I'm so relaxed with Unai as manager. I know we will spring into life and score goals.
The power of Unai!
-
Sounds like they might have learned from the last two times we played them and passed rings round them.
-
That goal wouldn't have stood at the other end.
-
We’ve been well off it here. Need to sharpen up or this game is gone.
-
At least three players standing offside including the one who passed to the goal scorer. What are these fuckers looking at?
I'd love to know. I no longer understand offside.
It's been over complicated and has lost meaning (at least for me). The ref has given us fuck all so far.
-
was cash not fouled being screened?
Looked like it to me, surprised the ref hasn't looked at that because he was blocked by a guy who was miles offside.
-
That goal wouldn't have stood if we had scored it.
This.
-
Bailey is shit.
-
Digne seems very wound up already
-
I’m with you, as the ball is kicked it’s quicker to count players who I think are onside.
-
Bailey is shit.
Yep. Bailey off, Coots on.
-
Bailey and Cash both need to be replaced.
-
Bailey is shit.
He shouldn't be starting for us.
-
was cash not fouled being screened?
Looked like it to me, surprised the ref hasn't looked at that because he was blocked by a guy who was miles offside.
I don't know why you're surprised the ref hasn't looked at it. It's us.
-
Bailey inspecting the turf as usual.
-
Bailey is as strong as a three year old
-
Seriously, what the fuck does Bailey offer?
-
thats a foul
-
Bailey has been poor so far. Just really quick to go down, usually after trying to do too much. If he kept it simple more often he'd improve a lot.
-
Ollie with a chance
-
typical watkins
not good enough
-
The centre of our midfield needs to get a grip. They are playing around us at the moment.
Oh shit. Tyrone is down and Ollie misses another sitter.
-
think we need to move McGinn in the centre to support
-
Why is Bailey even still here? He's been shit for almost the entire time he's been here, it's like playing with 10 men.
-
Should be 2-2 there. Poor finish from Watkins but a good break.
-
falls to diaby thats a goal
-
Come on Ollie
-
Watkins FFS man.
-
Oh Ollie!!!
-
Watkins- not good enough
-
falls to diaby thats a goal
Fall to anyone.
-
Bailey has been poor so far. Just really quick to go down, usually after trying to do too much. If he kept it simple more often he'd improve a lot.
Bailey has gone donw as easily as Gordon, the difference is they get a free kick for it.
-
Mings looks in a lot of pain
-
Poor effort Watkins.
-
Knowing our luck this will be Mings out for 6 months,
-
Watkins- not good enough
Yep. Lacks the killer instinct
-
Ming's fucked?
-
Mings looks in a bad way.
-
Clear foul on Cash, stopping him from stepping out and completing our offside trap. It's completely deliberate; we caught them offside a thousand times at VP and they learned. It is of course a foul interfering with play, but refs don't understand the game.
Yet more football the right way from everyone's second team.
-
Are they holding his knee?
-
FFS watkins - thats not good enough
-
another injury
-
Poor.
-
No foul Hinchcliffe, you penis nosed wanker. He smashed him in the back. Tyrone's knee is fucked.
-
this co commentator is annoying twat
-
Mings struggling here
-
Bailey has been poor so far. Just really quick to go down, usually after trying to do too much. If he kept it simple more often he'd improve a lot.
Bailey has gone donw as easily as Gordon, the difference is they get a free kick for it.
Probably because I'm not really looking for it specifically but I've not noticed that from Gordon. He's been useful fro them though.
-
That is the exact reason why Watkins needs replacing if we want to be an elite club...
-
Not normally good when they bring on oxygen.
-
Isak has possibly put Mings out for the season by the looks of it.
Geordie bastard!
-
Are we cursed with early season injuries???
-
Tyrone's injury looks nasty.
-
falls to diaby thats a goal
Fall to anyone.
except Bailey
-
The usual suspects slating our players. The same people who were adamant Luiz was 'shit'.
Honestly. Get behind the team.
-
Great looks like a serious injury for Mings
-
falls to diaby thats a goal
Fall to anyone.
except Bailey
Even Bailey would have finished that. After the obligatory 6 touches...
-

Yet more football the right way from everyone's second team.
I agree totally. VAR are looking at completely the wrong thing. Remember the Man Yew game when this was given against us? No consistency whatsoever.
-
I had Mings in my FF squad, as well as Timber and DeBruyne, so this is probably my fault.
-
god fucking damnit, fuck off.
-
Great looks like a serious injury for Mings
If we didn't have terrible luck we'd have no luck at all.
-
Why are they not showing what happened to Mings?
-
Tyrone's injury looks nasty.
The usual.
We sign some decent players, everyone gets excited....and then we lose key players to serious injuries.
Can see it like clockwork. Going to be a baptism of fire Pau going in v this lot. We'll concede another at some point.
-
The usual suspects slating our players. The same people who were adamant Luiz was 'shit'.
Honestly. Get behind the team.
It's a live match thread. Cut the I'm a better fan bollocks too eh?
-
This is why you have top class backup centre halves.
Let’s hope the management/recruitment team realise that if the same happens to Watkins* there’s major problems
* not that Ollie is exactly Gerd Muller
-
The usual suspects slating our players. The same people who were adamant Luiz was 'shit'.
Honestly. Get behind the team.
It's a live match thread. Cut the I'm a better fan bollocks too eh?
agreed
-
Good thing we've got plenty of centre backs.
-
It's probably gonna be one of those innocuous ones that's a serious one

-
Bailey has been poor so far. Just really quick to go down, usually after trying to do too much. If he kept it simple more often he'd improve a lot.
Bailey has gone donw as easily as Gordon, the difference is they get a free kick for it.
Not just Gordon falling over his own feet & the ref blowing before he has bit the deck. That idiot with a crossword shaved into his hair too... Guimares? (Sp?)
-
That is the exact reason why Watkins needs replacing if we want to be an elite club...
agree . needs 3 chances for every goal
-
We can still win this. Plenty of time.
-
The usual suspects slating our players. The same people who were adamant Luiz was 'shit'.
Honestly. Get behind the team.
Behind the team but we need a better player than Bailey and Watkins if we are to move up as a top 6 side. Also this is the match thread, the h&v equivalent of a drunken rant you don’t remember tomorrow
-
Mings stretchered off, Torres on.
-
Leg getting strapped up rather than his back, hope it's not as bad as the one Carlos got exactly a year ago as we need Mings leadership at the back particularly v direct teams.
We will certainly miss him for rest of this game.
-
Why are they not showing what happened to Mings?
They did. He tried to shoulder barge Issak (I think), and his knee just seemed to give out
-
This is a serious injury for Tyrone. He's in tears. Hinchcliffe, you wankstain. No foul! Tosser.
-
Mings looks in real pain there. Awful to see. Fair play to the Newcastle fans for applauding him off. Didn't expect that.
-
Mings gonna be out for a long time.
-
Hope Mings the merciful is ok
-
Fuck Isak! He knocked Mings off balance.
He knew what he was doing.
-
Wasn't a foul at all.
-
That is the exact reason why Watkins needs replacing if we want to be an elite club...
agree . needs 3 chances for every goal
Diaby will be playing CF by end of season I reckon. Can just tell he has that extra quality to his game Ollie dosen't quite have consistently.
-
What with this injury and Trippier's Hollywood production free kicks, there'll probably be 30 minutes added on time
-
Gutted for Tyrone. Two serious injuries now in a matter of days. Could only be Villa.
Sure Pau will o a great job though.
-
Yep looks like another one for the ACL collection ffs
-
maybe we will go after Laporte after all
-
Digne booked.
-
Gutting to lose Mings...
-
This is a serious injury for Tyrone. He's in tears. Hinchcliffe, you wankstain. No foul! Tosser.
FFS, gutted for Tyrone if it's a bad one as suspected.
-
Let's hope it's not serious
-
yellow card for what
shite ref
-
Yep looks like another one for the ACL collection ffs
Will need another CB if that's the case as three CBs is too light for our schedule.
Anyone got Bednarek's mobile number.....
-
this week has been devastating.
-
Aston Villa - for that time when one season-ending injury isn't enough.
-
We've gone from not knowing the starting 11 to barely giving a starting 11 in the space of a few days. Nightmare.
-
What a homer of a ref.
We'll have someone sent off second half.
-
awful to see mings going off like that - looks serious.
Dont see that Isak did anything wrong there to be fair
-
Right, a tenner on Ollie Watkins being decapitated by a passing seagull.
-
This ref is fucking awful, 2 shit yellow cards for us and giving them everything.
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey. He’s been fucking garbage!
I’d hook him NOW.
-
Mings is a real leader. Absolutely gutted.
-
baptism of fire for torres, newcastle are playing 100mph football
-
Mings gonna be out for a long time.
15 months when he injured his knee for Bournemouth.
-
Right, a tenner on Ollie Watkins being decapitated by a passing seagull.
Statement of the century! I’m gone 😂
-
Digne booked.
Yet Gordan kicks the ball twenty yards away at our free kick and doesn't even get spoken to.
-
Is it his knee or his right ankle? That Twitter clip looks like his ankle gives way.
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey. He’s been fucking garbage!
I’d hook him NOW.
I desperately want him to be brilliant though.
-
Our midfield 3 just haven't turned up yet.
-
Mings looks in real pain there. Awful to see. Fair play to the Newcastle fans for applauding him off. Didn't expect that.
The ones that hadn't legged it down to the concourse for a crafty Newkie and a pie. But yes fair play.
-
Is it his knee or his right ankle? That Twitter clip looks like his ankle gives way.
I thought he might have jarred his knee?
-
I just fucking despair of our luck. It's absolutely insane.
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey. He’s been fucking garbage!
I’d hook him NOW.
I desperately want him to be brilliant though.
We all do, it isn't going to happen though.
-
We'd be miles better with Tielemans in the middle, and McGinn in Bailey's spot. He'd be better getting forward and also offer some support to Cash.
-
Got to keep the score close now to give us a realistic chance.
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey. He’s been fucking garbage!
I’d hook him NOW.
I desperately want him to be brilliant though.
So long that he has got a hole in his arse. Bailey will never ever be brilliant.
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey. He’s been fucking garbage!
I’d hook him NOW.
I desperately want him to be brilliant though.
We all do, it isn't going to happen though.
Not all the evidence so far. I can understand why people get frustrated with him. If he just stayed on his feet and made the pass he'd be so useful for us.
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey. He’s been fucking garbage!
I’d hook him NOW.
Good work, he'll score now.
-
Such a good squad and we're playing the Championship standard Bailey from the start. Bit of a head-scratcher.
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey.

I'd say Tielemans where Diaby (who sort of seems to be doing what Ramsey was doing) is and Diaby where Bailey is.
-
Philogene for Bailey
-
Not all the evidence so far. I can understand why people get frustrated with him. If he just stayed on his feet and made the pass he'd be so useful for us.
Disagree. He hasn't got any real pace, never takes his man on, and offers no work rate or protection to his full back at all.
-
Olsen on for Bailey will improve us.
-
Midfield needs to impose itself. Bailey continues to infuriate and that’s putting it mildly.
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey. He’s been fucking garbage!
I’d hook him NOW.
Good work, he'll score now.
On this occasion, I think I’m safe from the commentators curse. Just infuriatingly sluggish and half-arsed in everything he does!
-
37% possession. Rope a doping the Barcodes!
-
We'd be miles better with Tielemans in the middle, and McGinn in Bailey's spot. He'd be better getting forward and also offer some support to Cash.
I'd say Tielemans where Diaby is and Diaby where Bailey is.
Either/or really. I think we're getting done physically down the flanks though.
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey. He’s been fucking garbage!
I’d hook him NOW.
I desperately want him to be brilliant though.
He isn’t. Stop deluding yourself. He is rubbish.
-
How the fuck was that a foul?
-
Well in on Gareth from the Office Matty!
-
Diaby with a chance
-
Diaby side-netting
-
brilliant move close by diaby
-
Impressed with Diaby so far.
Match has been weird since the Mings stoppage.
-
wrong choice there
-
I’ve finally seen why there is so much animosity towards Bailey. He’s been fucking garbage!
I’d hook him NOW.
I desperately want him to be brilliant though.
He isn’t. Stop deluding yourself. He is rubbish.
I think you might be assuming that I think he's good? lol
-
The ref needs to get a grip on them leaving a boot in, every time they press on us they make sure if they don't win the ball they give the player a knock.
-
Cash will be in the book soon at this rate
-
Newcastle are still dirty fuckers
-
trippier fuck off
-
Gordon is a moron
-
10 mins added time
-
Somebody needs to give that Claire Balding-alike a good kicking.
-
A clear trip on Dougie there.
-
Why isn't trippier booked for that given Luiz was booked for complaining?
-
we've been half asleep for most of this game and we're still in it and we're playing better now. We can win this in the second half.
-
This ref is fucking dreadful.
-
we do look the better team
-
There’s a still frame of Mings’s knee doing the rounds on Twitter, that’s a bad one.
-
Why isn't trippier booked for that given Luiz was booked for complaining?
Colour of the shirt?
-
we do look the better team
We've not been great, but Newcastle look pretty dreadful.
-
I just fucking despair of our luck. It's absolutely insane.
It's like we're not allowed nice things by the footballing gods :'(. Tyrone could miss out on the Euros next summer if the injury's bad enough (assuming Southgate would have picked him!).
-
The thing that's pissing me off with these is that every time they attempt to make a tackle there's a shove along with it so even if they don't get the ball our player is off balance and has to take an extra touch.
-
Going back a bit, what was Luiz complaining about, that got him a booking?
-
bailey get a grip ffs
-
Dr. Rajpal Brar, DPT
@3cbPerformance 14m
Tyrone Mings injury. Look at his right knee, prototypical ACL tear position while trying to change direction(and on video, looks like there’s a quick buckle). Hoping to be wrong here, hate to see this.
-
get him off NOW !!!
-
Bailey yet again.
Get him off FFS
-
Going back a bit, what was Luiz complaining about, that got him a booking?
It was something leading up the the first goal, he felt he'd been fouled but complained too much or something.
-
Gonna lose my shit if #31 starts the second half. Hope they’ve got that Italian kid on speed dial! FFS!

Poor Tyrone. Will be a massive miss for us
-
Going back a bit, what was Luiz complaining about, that got him a booking?
He got fouled in the build up.
-
we need more physicality in midfield. Doguie and Kamara bullied to much
They have taken there chances cynically, we had two where we should have done better.
The right side has struggled - bailey and cash big question marks.
-
Fucking hell Bailey. Get him off, FFS.
-
Not going to lie, I have given my support to Bailey as I feel there are reasons for his shit form, but I think there are going to have to be a set target for him to start to show his true ability or we have to move on. He has been piss poor today. Losing runners, losing the ball, losing my will to live, etc...
-
Emi booked.
-
My God, Emi
-
what was wrong with that villa free kick there
-
What the fuck is Martinez doing!?
-
3 villa players back ffs
-
Emi wtf?
That could be red after var.
-
Well that was bizarre. Almost like he got bored.
-
We need half time, some wisdom from Unai and some calm.
-
Newcastle are really dislikeable
-
Newcastle are really dislikeable
Agree especially as my ****** of a bil is a Cannock magpie
-
Bailey is Emery’s blind spot. And Olsen.
-
what was wrong with that villa free kick there
To me it looked like he gave a free kick to them for 1 of our players blocking the run, which, after their 2nd, is the clearest evidence you need to show the ref is a c**t.
-
Newcastle are really dislikeable
Yes.
-
that noel gordon is a wanker
-
what was wrong with that villa free kick there
Offside I think, the exact same situation that occurred at the other end a short while ago, when the goalvwas allowed to stand.
-
They have a booking.😳
-
HT 2-1
-
We haven't played well at all, but at least we're still in it.
-
what was wrong with that villa free kick there
Offside I think, the exact same situation that occurred at the other end a short while ago, when the goalvwas allowed to stand.
digne never looked offside
-
Newcastle are really dislikeable
Yes.
Especially Clare f**king Balding.
-
what was wrong with that villa free kick there
Offside I think, the exact same situation that occurred at the other end a short while ago, when the goalvwas allowed to stand.
foul on the edge of the box
digne never looked offside
-
Newcastle are really dislikeable
Yes.
Isak had always struck me as a decent sort. Other than that though, bunch of bell-ends.
-
Well, that was mostly shit. What an anti-climax.
-
Sloppy at the back and punished for it.
I don't want it to sound like a pile-on but Jesus Christ, Bailey has been awful.
Special shout out to him for that pass direct to Isak on about 30 minutes.
Get him off FFS.
Emi has also got to be really fucking careful now too.
-

fair enough , exactly what they did to Cash with the goal
-
Tielemans for Bailey is a very very very obvious half time substitution.
After awful first 10 minutes I actually think we've been o.k but we badly need some control in midfield, odd to see an Emery team not playing game at its own tempo.
Diaby looks like that long hoped for attack upgrade, not sure Ollie has the quality to link up effectively with him so that's the next issue but can look at that next summer.
Remain hopeful but we can't be going 3-1 down to this lot.
-
Newcastle are really dislikeable
Yes.
Isak had always struck me as a decent sort. Other than that though, bunch of bell-ends.
Isak is a superb player. He is the exact player who would be perfect for our team...
I was gutted when Newcastle signed him.
-

Indeed, it was Watkins who was offside in the middle when the free kick was taken, just as Isak was for their goal.
-
Coutinho will come on at 70 mins and score the winner. Or get his leg broken and red carded for his trouble. Both seem equally as likely.
-
They are Allardice era Bolton. A horrible team to play against .
-
Mental Half. Gutted to lose Mings. I thought we weren't alive to Newcastle at the start of the game but we've grown into it without ever bossing it.
Watkins should have scored, Dougie could have done better with his header from the corner, Bailey needs to come off.
-
Not much better than Bournemouth 12 months ago
-
We've played ok I think and Diaby looks a real threat. The high line is a blessing and a curse and today we've been caught out by it.
Bailey clearly isn't good enough for where we want to be.
Tielemans for Bailey at h-t.
The loss of Mings probably for some time is the worst thing that will come from this match.
-
Tight game, both sides absolute mansions of shit, they got away with one more so they're winning.
Being let down by individual moments really, most of them from Bailey, but Cash and Watkins nominated for worst supporting (Ollie's just having one of his 'only buildup' games, it's like tantric striker play).
We're so cursed with injuries - I really really hope for the best for Tyrone but it looked bad.
-
We knew that Cash is a weak link, Bailey is a fanny and that Watkins misses chances.
-
What do you reckon had happened to Mings?
-
Not much better than Bournemouth 12 months ago
Except Newcastle are a much better side
-
Not much better than Bournemouth 12 months ago
It's infinity billion times better than that.
-
Good to see Torres come on and inside a couple of minutes send one of their players to fetch the paper, advance halfway up the pitch and play a lovely pass.
-
The Mings injury takes prominence over everything in that half for me. Gutting.
-
hope Watkins shows up this half
-
Not much better than Bournemouth 12 months ago
I mean back then we lost terribly to a team who were everyone's favourites to go down and despite exceeding those expectations they still finished 16th.
Like them or not but Newcastle deservedly finished top 4 and have good players all over the park and can win in different ways.
We are still in it and the disruption with the serious injuries isn't helping either although Pau has looked composed on the ball which is nice to see at least.
-
We need Tielemans on. He's got that quality the game is missing, and will enable us to put some pressure on them. Bailey has been abysmal. As usual.
-
Not our finest half so far. Their 2nd a mile offside. I haven't missed the diving, play acting or general crapness of officiating and commentary. Still in it but team looks bit off it so far. Bad injury to Tyrone too.
-
Hmm - seemed to lack the calm and composure we have had normally under Unai.
We have been bullied by them, which hasn't helped, and having Mings crocked for the foreseeable means that could be an issue this season.
Mings is a big blow - unfortunately, similar to last season we make a couple big signings but then lose a couple of players through injury. Seems to be very much 2 steps forward 1 back in the squad building front.
How Andy Hinchliffe gets work I have no idea.
Still well in this - but our squad has taken a real battering this week.
-
Cliche but it’s early days yet.
-
Leon Bailey still isn't very good then
-
Good to see Torres come on and inside a couple of minutes send one of their players to fetch the paper, advance halfway up the pitch and play a lovely pass.
Yes what a turn that was. Lovely bit of skill.
-
Not much better than Bournemouth 12 months ago
FfS, don't talk shite.
-
2 bad goals to give away but we should really be winning this. We look the much better footballing team but in front of goal it’s that lethal edge that we badly need.
Look good in possession but that injury to Mings is a proper kick between the legs. We have to invest there and if that’s at the expense of anywhere else then so be it.
What have we done to deserve these injuries? Still, we are still in it and if Bailey comes into the game then we have a chance.
-
Mings - gutted for him, but now we get to see Pau.
Bailey - waste of space. Emery must see something in training, but my goodness he’s bad.
Cash should be on a yellow as should Kamara.
Emi better be careful especially if we need to time waste at the end
-
Cash responsible for them being onside for their second goal.
-
Bailey looks like he's taken a tranquiliser or something.
-
Can't believe how uninvolved mcginn is.
Watkins is very quit also and missed a glorious chance.
We are still in this but think we will get a red card at some point
-
Newcastle are exactly what they were last year - ugly and effective. We had a poor half but could easily have scored 3. Fine margins. I'm sick to death of us having these injuries, but Torres has looked very very assured so far in a tough introduction to this league.
-
Both free kicks that lead to the goals, were totally unnecessary, Watkins, Luiz and Diaby all missed 3 great chances.
-
The more I see it the worse that decision to let their 2nd stand is, Burn completely takes Cash out and despite watching it multiple times none of the officials saw a problem with it.
-

I’m hoping Bailey goes out of the game.
-
Well I went in to this game thinking Cash and Bailey need upgrading and that half did shit all to change my mind.
-
Terrible first ten minutes. Just appalling. After that, we got a bit of control. Mings got injured & the game became slow & scrappy. Already made my feelings about Bailey known. But he needs swapping for Philogene-Bidace. Especially after he tore all of their full backs a new on4 in America....
Shout out to to the ref for being a ******. Im not sure if there is actually a new initiative to allow contact but looking at that bleach blonde haired ballerina tumble over his own feet & the ref give foul after foul, along with that Brazilian with a battleships board shaved into his hair, it seems they can fall over & get decisions after having their safe space invaded, yet they are allowed to leave a foot in, or push & pull our players when they miss the ball & the ref allows it... Not to mention Cash being blocked from running back to make all 15 of their players who were in offside positions, to actually be offside...
******.
Granted the Martinez situation is debatable & with their fucking mouths whining at the stadium like its them thats been hard done by, this ref is just the man to crumble further under fan pressure & try & redress the balance as the home fans see it...
Again, ******...
-
Well I went in to this game thinking Cash and Bailey need upgrading and that half did shit all to change my mind.
Bailey, definitely. Cash has qualities, but not sure he is 100% suited to this team under Emery.
-
The gulf in quality between Diaby and Bailey is huge. About a division, probably.
-
Not much better than Bournemouth 12 months ago
FfS, don't talk shite.
I agree with John.
-
Incredibly unlucky start to the season.
-
Ref’s a baaaaad homer.
-
The gulf in quality between Diaby and Bailey is huge. About a division, probably.
Yep. It's that stark.
-

Champions League versus Championship.
-
Can't believe how uninvolved mcginn is.
Watkins is very quit also and missed a glorious chance.
We are still in this but think we will get a red card at some point
After he ripped them apart at our place they’re doing a job on him so far.
-
My half-time comments as usual - we will slaughter them, we blocked them their own half. We will welcome them with Tielemans and moves.
-
Ref’s a baaaaad homer.
Unbelievably so, can't fucking breath on Lady Dive
-
Good to see Torres come on and inside a couple of minutes send one of their players to fetch the paper, advance halfway up the pitch and play a lovely pass.
No real excitement about that move from that idiot Hinchcliffe, but as soon as Tripper moves the ball to the side a little as McGinn is running past & he practically ejaculated live on TV in that whiny little high pitched voice of his...
He's almost as bad as listening to Hendrie commentate on games...
Both are the reason the mute button was invented.
-
Tielemans on for Bailey
-
Tielemans on good stuff
-
Tielemans on for Bailey. Only the most predictable substitution ever seen.
-
at least Diaby isnt a Bailey , for peope who thought the german league makes everyone look good.
-
They're dirty, physical c**ts. Why couldn't it be one of them that did their knee?
-
Tielemans on for Bailey. Only the most predictable substitution ever seen.
Only surprised UE didn't start with Tielemans.
Today shows for these type of away games you need to get a grip on midfield and then work out counter attacks rather than other way around.
-
Tielemans on for Bailey. Only the most predictable substitution ever seen.
Bailey has a bad back , awww what bullshit , better than saying he was useless.
-
Sad for Tyronne Mings. I fear we might get a red card. (Digne)
Hope Emery settles this because we've been sloppy at times.
-
Cash booked
-
We need Tielemans on. He's got that quality the game is missing, and will enable us to put some pressure on them. Bailey has been abysmal. As usual.
Stupid to have selected him to begin with. Every man and his dog knew this first half was about winning the midfield.
-
I dont think we will finish will 11 players on the pitch
-
Not much better than Bournemouth 12 months ago
Absolute shite, whats next in your repertoire of bollocks insulting the managers personal appearance again?
-

Enough thanks. Everyone is entitled to an opinion even ones you disagree with.
-
Not really watched the first half, but seems messy at the moment.
Gutted about Mings - especially if it is his ACL. However, that’s 2 ACLs in 3 days. Seems a bit of a coincidence?
I just hope we can get a draw here
-
whats with all the getting the crowd going by barcode players , thought they was the best loudest fans in the world.
-
Cash getting mugged off constantly by Charlie Dimmock.
-
Almiron is rapid. Left Luiz for dead.
-
Martinez is going to get himself sent off here.
-
I dont think we will finish will 11 players on the pitch
I’m afraid of this too. This ref is itching to show that they are clamping down.
-
We need a couple of their players to have a fight with each other.
-
Almiron offside before those corners... these officials are shit.
-
Yay! Gordon booked.
-
Diaby is pure quality...
-
Tielemans on for Bailey. Only the most predictable substitution ever seen.
Only surprised UE didn't start with Tielemans.
Today shows for these type of away games you need to get a grip on midfield and then work out counter attacks rather than other way around.
Agree, we were all over the place.
-
We're short of ideas here.
-
Game over
-
3-1. error by Konsa
-
fucking awful
-
Bollocks.
-
Well that was really shit by Konsa
-
Well that has fucked it, so much for the pre match predictions
-
Jeeezzzzzzzuuuuuuuss
-
Bollocks
-
Game over
-
Gerrard out!
-
Appalling from Konsa. Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.
-
What a bunch of bullshit.
-
Konsa put his foot over the ball, GRRRR.
-
thats how you finish as a striker
-
FFS Konsa.
That's that then. Our shit run up there continues.
-
We look like a side thst lost a key cog in the team 48 hours before kick off to a sickening injury, and then got another early in the game.
The ref spent the first half an hour giving them everything.
We've been awful since. The second goal should be a foul on Cash by Burn.
Emery will sort it I'm sure. But we've had a truly awful couple of days, and probably the hardest away game you can imagine to start.
-
3 dreadful goals to concede.
-
Oh well one thing holds true: make sure you lose some of your pre season friendlies.
-
Absolute fucking wank, up there with all our other dreadful opening day performances. Utter, utter shit.
-
We’ve been so fucking sloppy today. Really poor.
-
Dammit.
-
Good save from Emi, this could get embarrassing.
-
FFS.
-
Crying out loud.
-
Rubbish from Konsa.
We need him to step up now Mings is out for ages but he could be losing his place instead.
Game over.
-
Ok, I’m glad I’m not watching
-
That was an abysmal mistake from Konsa :(
-
Fucking jawdie c**ts.
-
Complete out of ideas we are3 1 down and at walking pace.
-
mcginn been pants too
-
I reckon our involvement in the Conference League is definitely impacting our League form.
-
just absolutely sick to my stomach and having a hard time coming to terms with this unfortunate start to the campaign. :-\
-
Isak is about a country mile ahead of watkins
-
We made Gordon look like a 50m player
-
I reckon our involvement in the Conference League is definitely impacting our League form.
😂
-
It's weird we've spent £60-odd million on centre halves and neither is currently displacing Mings or Konsa. Fair play to those two.
Anyway, good to be back watching football. UTV.
Hmm.
-
We are not creating anything. Midfield has been crap this half.
-
Absolute fucking wank, up there with all our other dreadful opening day performances. Utter, utter shit.
The opening day just doesn't like us, and our result is always inversely proportional to how optimistic we are beforehand.
-
Miles off it today.
-
Far too complacent the first 15 minutes and we’ve never really recovered. Only likely positive aspect is that it might be Bailey’s last start for a good while.
-
We look like a complete rabble this half.
Horrible to see.
-
Chance Almiron. Getting battered.
-
Come on Villa get a goal :(
-
Carlos looks like he's coming on.
-
I reckon our involvement in the Conference League is definitely impacting our League form.
Doing a West Ham.
-
SJM off for Carlos.
-
we're just too soft - maybe we do need a defensive midfielder.
-
Newcastle now look like scoring every time they go forward. Could have had another two since the third went in.
-
Carlos coming in?!
3 at the back ...
-
Far too complacent the first 15 minutes and we’ve never really recovered. Only likely positive aspect is that it might be Bailey’s last start for a good while.
Don't be too sure of that.
-
Not sure why we're bringing on a centre hall when 2 down?
EDIT ah to go three at the back
-
And there's a chance missed.
-
cash championship
-
Well, you can have all that pre-season hope in the world until reality punches you in the face...
-
Terrible miss from Cash. Had to score.
-
Great chance for Cash but missed.
-
Oh FFS Cash
-
This really isn't going to be our day.
-
What hope have we got if we're gonna squander so many sitters.
-
So fucking cursed today.
-
They've taken their chances, we haven't. It's that close at the top level.
-
Cash and Bailey are not good enough.
We needed a RB upgrade this summer and haven’t got one
-
I hope we stay up.
-
Need to have a go at dan burn, the guy is a big lump playing full back if diaby or cash can get one on one with him we can find way back
-
Iv suppose he needs to give Carlos some game time, with Mings being knacked.
-
Fuck the geordies, jimmy nail, Brian Johnson (sorry AC/DC), Alan shearer and my ****** brother in law
-
What hope have we got if we're gonna squander so many sitters.
yep, awful in front of goal,
-
Unai masterclass coming.
Also, The Moose is really good.
-
Cash and Bailey are not good enough.
We needed a RB upgrade this summer and haven’t got one
cash is good enough for bench , bailey is good enough Wrexham
-
What a seriously fucking shit day this has been
-

Can't help but note that everyone else on the list is shit.
-
The thing is they have taken the chances we haven't.
Bailey, Cash, and maybe maybe watkins just probably not at the right standard
-
Iv suppose he needs to give Carlos some game time, with Mings being knacked.
Possibly thinks we're rattled by the bad injury to Mings. Take the loss and move on, rather than getting thumped 4 or 5-1.
-
Cash and Bailey are not good enough.
We needed a RB upgrade this summer and haven’t got one
A centre forward with more than one trick might help too.
-
They look totally at ease now.
-
The annoying thing is we've had plenty of time to do something and haven't.
-
If we've written this off then give Archer 20 minutes please.
He scores a consolation and that might be the making of him at this level.
-
Our midfield has looked like it did under smith and gerrard
-
I'd probably settle for a point now.
-
We're missing Ashley Young
-
We will be much better at home and against the vast majority of this league. Today has been shit for much more than the result. Newcastle will one of the hardest places to come for every team in the league
-
Our midfield has looked like it did under smith and gerrard
How about you get behind them and stop slagging them off?
-
Feels like heads have dropped now and we don't seem to have anyone to gee us up a bit.
-
I hope the players don't give up as quickly as some on here.
We have well over 20 mins left. All they have to do is get one and you never know.
-
We are at the stage where really fine margins are important. We've missed 2 sitters and can't continue to do that if we want to move up. That is going to cost 100m pounds to sort out. Or we might get lucky.
-
I'm not sure that bringing Carlos on was the substitution to get us back into the match.
-
use Pau ffs
-
Our midfield has looked like it did under smith and gerrard
How about you get behind them and stop slagging them off?
Like you did Bailey first half? :P
-
4-1, Wilson
-
Monty we were a different team 2.5 years ago. That list was good at the time.
-
this ref is so poor
-
fucking fuck off
-
Our midfield has looked like it did under smith and gerrard
How about you get behind them and stop slagging them off?
Like you did Bailey first half? :P
I was taking the piss.
-
sigh
-
What a fucking nightmare
-
It's alright, we'll stuff them on the return leg.
-
Wait what, WHAT?
-
Fuck me. Thank god we didn't sign Barnes eh, I'd hate to lose the work rate we get from Leon Fucking Bailey instead.
-
I hope the players don't give up as quickly as some on here.
We have well over 20 mins left. All they have to do is get one and you never know.
Mate, the players have given up judging by that 4th goal.
Where's the pride gone?
-
Ah this is painful.
-
How is that not off, am I high?
-
Utter shit
-
I’d take a draw now
There I’ve said it
-
Wilson coming on for Isak and scoring himself is exactly the sort of depth we lack in the final third.
Pretty sure he scored as many as Ollie in the end last season.
-
4-1 probably flatters them but we've also been well second best today.
-
Wow what an absolute shambles.
-
We don't look ready at all
-
There's still about 40 minutes left with added time.
-
The defensive play today has been fucking amateur.
-
hes offside
-
Really not as good as we thought we were. This is poor.
-
I was really looking forward to the football starting back up again.
Struggling to remember why, now.
-
I reckon the injury to Mings has really impacted the players. That’s two bad ones in the few days for a very close knit group. But Mings is such a massive figure at the club on and off the pitch. We look lost without him.
-
How is that not off, am I high?
Barnes looked a country mile off
-
4-1, Wilson
Put £10 on him to score next. Easiest £100 ever.
-
Offside. Again. No lines. Play on.
Bollocks.
-
Id take the draw now
-
nothing like putting a hole in your balloon before you’ve even put air in it.
-
Who is the captain with McGinn and Mings both off?
-
Pathetic performance from manager right down to players. Sheer negligence from Emery and the board not to strengthen this side more with more games.
-
Wilson coming on for Isak and scoring himself is exactly the sort of depth we lack in the final third.
Pretty sure he scored as many as Ollie in the end last season.
I like Watkins, but the Jawdies have two strikers better than him.
-
Who is the captain with McGinn and Mings both off?
I think it's Luiz.
-

You can't let your heads drop like that though, in any case we were dreadful with him on the pitch as well.
-
Where the fuck are the lines?
I'm angry now. They are better than this. This is a terrible result. Terrible.
-
Yes I was gutted when Barnes went to them. Always looked good against us and usually scored.
What a start to the season.
-
This is mid table at best unless they are genuine title challengers.
Pope has had what one save? Emi had several.
-
Emi saves us from a 5th
-
big mistake by Unai starting with Bailey
he needs 3 players ASAP
newcastle sitter missed
save
-
It's a poor defensive performance for sure. I think we are seeing some players not being up to snuff - Cash is certainly one, Bailey (obv) is another. But, actually, we started poorly and never really picked it up; which is down to Emery.
-
I didnt see this coming - we look completely shell shocked, and under prepared
Things I thought we had seen the last of it - this is an embarrassment.
-
they had to score there.
-
Jesus. Has Mings’ injury fucked us before the season even started?
Gutted
-
I was really looking forward to the football starting back up again.
Struggling to remember why, now.
Feeling the same..
-
Big time reality check for us.
This has turned into an absolute nightmare.
Newcastle are good but we have made them look very good. Pedestrian all over apart from Diaby who has been the only bright spot.
Nearly a fifth. Joke defending.
-
Another goal that looked offside to me but, looks like most of our players have given up as much so e of us fans!
-
I honestly didn’t think that displays and shorelines like this were possible anymore. Who know what we do now.
-
And another let off
-
4-1 flatters us
-
Philogene coming on soon
-

It's really tough to see and I agree on the leadership. However we can't just write off seasons because key players are getting bad injuries as believe it or not but other sides get plenty of them and have to cope.
We certainly need a new CB in next two weeks, hopefully one with leadership skills as I think Konsa's going to shrink without Ming's presence alongside him.
-
And now we have a week of the media fucking creaming themselves about Newcastle and all at our expense
-
Jesus Christ this is fucking disgraceful.
-
off the line by watkins
this is shocking now
-
Good save Emi.
-
Trying to put a positive spin on this and think should we be losing this bad to a good team like Newcastle, the answer is no we fucking shouldn’t.
-
Concede another and we're bottom of the league
-
Konsa's mistake killed us.
-
Losing Buendia and Mings with similar injuries in 3 days seems like a massive coincidence.
I’m glad the window is still open, because my god - we need to improve here. This is dreadful.
-
How dare we be optimistic, this'll teach us a lesson.
Sigh, Emery gone in November and relegation battle to look forward to?
Hopefully we can count on our usual donation of 3 points from the Toffees, and just write today off. When things go wrong for us, they properly go wrong.
-
4-1 does not flatter them, it bats eyelids while persuading them that they are Barcelona 2010. We have missed absolute sitters at crucial moments and gifted at least one of the goals, and the ref has been awful in key moments. It's in the key moments that this stuff matters the most.
I am looking forward to playing these cloggers at home and smashing them again, because they are the most limited 'top 4' team I've seen since Moyes's Everton.
-
We were ok first half but the second has been woeful.
-
To all the Mings doubters, this just shows how important he is to us. We’re a shambles at the back.
-
kamaras had a mare too
-
Who is the captain with McGinn and Mings both off?
Ant and Deck
-
4-1 flatters us
What?
-
Should be 6
-
Bottom of the league tonight.
-
Hope there’s another 100m in the transfer kitty because Zaniolo ain’t gonna help this. This is probably the most unfortunate way to start a season possible.
-
4-1, Wilson
Put £10 on him to score next. Easiest £100 ever.
One day, you might let us know about your bets before the event happens. It'll be easiest money ever, for us all.
-
There's no shame in losing to good teams but this has been a total capitulation.
Not acceptable regardless of some mitigation with Mings' injury.
-
4-1 flatters us
What?
It does, they could have had 8.
-
Wilson coming on for Isak and scoring himself is exactly the sort of depth we lack in the final third.
Pretty sure he scored as many as Ollie in the end last season.
I like Watkins, but the Jawdies have two strikers better than him.
Add in Almiron who hit double figures last season and them signing Barnes with his 12 goals for relegated Leicester.
I admire the optimism in people predicting top 4 but we simply don't have enough players in final third who are credible scoring threats, Bailey with just 5 goals a season certainly isn't going to cut it and he'll be back on the bench after today's effort.
Add in Buendia out until March, Archer not really been fancied and Duran injured for all of pre season and very unproven and we are far too light for a side actually in european competition.
We need someone else in on top of Zaniolo seemingly being signed as a Buendia replacement.
-
We'll remember this. For good reasons.
-
Too many below par today. Looking forward to getting Moreno back in the side too. Newcastle have been good but we have been really poor.
-
4-1 flatters us
I said at the start play like this and they will get half a dozen. They still might.
No use having 300m midfield (can only play 3 of them) if Cash and Bailey are starting.
-
Kamara has had an absolute nightmare.
-
This is like watching Arsenal under Emery at the end of his time there. Defensively all over the shop and not the slightest clue what to do about it
-
Kamara having a stinker this half.
-
That was woeful from Kamara. Running all that way and giving a pass like that? Fuck me
-
We'll remember this. For good reasons.
❤️
-
Diaby and Cash off, Phil and Philogene on.
-
I don't think Newcastle have been great. A lot of there chances are from our mistakes.
-
Thinking of beating the traffic.
-
Nevin wanking himself blind over Tonali. What's the betting he'll never play this well again and sink without a trace, a la Macheda.
-
At least the police horses are safe tonight.
-
See how fast they counterattack compared to us.
-

You're right, let's hope we can mix it up with Brentford and Brighton.
-
Thinking of beating the traffic.
Thinking of going to bed.
-
Been defensively awful, but there are mitigation in that our leader at the back has had an awful injury, and we've suffered for it. I would imagine the next week will be spent on defensive shape.
-
4-1 flatters us
What?
It does, they could have had 8.
It would be double the score if it wasn’t for Emi’s saves
-
This is like watching Arsenal under Emery at the end of his time there. Defensively all over the shop and not the slightest clue what to do about it
You'll be saying "good ebening" next.
-
Nevin wanking himself blind over Tonali. What's the betting he'll never play this well again and sink without a trace, a la Macheda.
Hopefully, he'll be their Didier Six.
-

And finishing.
-
5-1, Barnes
-
Jesus wept.
-
emery out 5
-
We've picked up 7 points at Old Trafford since we last won at Newcastle.
5-1.
-
Pau fucking up there
-
We are bottom of the league I said we are bottom of the league
-
Shameful, absolutely shameful.
It's like last season was a dream.
-
Embarrassing now
-
Fuck off Emery
-
And there's the inevitable Barnes goal against us.
-
I fucking hate football.
-
Oh for crying out loud. We’re doomed.
Dreadful performance across the board.
-
Thinking of beating the traffic.
Beep! Beep!
Make it stop
-
Puke.
-
We're leaving it a bit late to make a comeback here
-
Pau has had a nightmarish debut. They’ve been utterly shameful today.
-
Firmly spanked.
-
This is even worse than last time. And we had Olsen in goal for most of that.
Absolute fucking shambles.
-
Furious.
-
This is uber shit. Really poor at the back and in the defensive midfield positions. Still 4 minutes to go. Our worst opening day defeat ever.
-
We've never been this bad under unai
-
Should be 6
It probably will be
-
Just why the fuck weren’t we on for Barnes? Fuck it. Day 1 and all optimism has gone. I thought we’d get a draw… what a disaster
-
I fucking hate football.
Innit.
-
Reality check
-
What a fucking nightmare!
-
When was the last time we weren’t cack on the opening day?
-
I think I’m going to try fishing or train spotting
-
This feels like Brian Little’s last season. Loads of optimism, new signings, start the season playing like drains.
-
I wasn't expecting much from the result today, but performance wise I thought we'd be closer to them. The injury didn't help but we've been so poor you'd have to think it's an anomaly and we'll be back on track next week.
-
Let's just see shall we?
-
When was the last time we weren’t cack on the opening day?
Didn't we get a freak result under Lambert once?
-
Shit are we going to be bottom.
-
When was the last time we weren’t cack on the opening day?
2020/21, beat Sheff Utd 1-0.
-
I think I’m going to try fishing or train spotting
Same.
-
Urgh.
-
Obvious from first 5 mins we get tonked
-
I think I’m going to try fishing or train spotting
Same.
I might take up dentistry. On myself.
-
When was the last time we weren’t cack on the opening day?
Didn't we get a freak result under Lambert once?
Stoke 1-0. Dreamland
-
Defence terrible.
Emi made five or six great saves and we’re still 5-1 down.
-
3-1 then.
-
Reality check. Big style.
-
I don’t care who the coach is or who the players are this is unacceptable.
Traits from pre Emery where we’d choose the easy option and give in. I hope it shows Emery we are nowhere near top 6 and have characters susceptible to this.
We need a goal scorer, another centre half and a midfielder capable of doing the dirty work to get anywhere near it.
If we have ambitions to compete then I’d like to see some decisions made in the next few weeks.
-
When was the last time we weren’t cack on the opening day?
Didn't we get a freak result under Lambert once?
We won at Bournemouth the season we got relegated. Rudy Gestede.
-
Death, taxes and Harvey Barnes scoring against Villa.
-
Humbling. Thanks for the company everyone.
-
I feel absolutely sick to my guts after that.
-
We might as well save wasting everybody's time and whack it in our own net. Every fucking goal eminently preventable. The kind of performances that have in the past got struggling managers the sack. I think one or two might be about to find out just how angry Emery can get.
-
Bloody hell that was poor. Defensive disaster!
-
Horrendous. They should be utterly ashamed of themselves.
-

Yep a few gave up there. Diabolical.

Seconded
-
Obvious from first 5 mins we get tonked.
Correct. I messed up my gs's on 5-1 and 6-1 though. Honestly this result was very predictable that I should be £800-1k richer right now.
-
Emery is not blameless picking that team.
-
That could probably have gone better in one or two respects, if I’m not being overly critical by saying that.
-
Shit are we going to be bottom.
The only way is up!
-
Emery is not blameless picking that team.
We were arguably the better side in the first half. I don't think team selection was the problem.
-
Emery is not blameless picking that team.
He isn't and not replacing Ashley Young at RB is on him too
-
Do Spurs want Watkins?
-
Emery is not blameless picking that team.
Expecting Bailey to do any defensive work in the midfield was a serious gamble. They went at him every time they could.
I’m really trying to convince myself the wheels won’t come off. The defense shape with 2 6’s was astonishing.
-
Do Spurs want Watkins?
No, they’re after a striker.
-
Wouldn’t swap positions with these geordie ******. I’d stop supporting Villa if the Saudis bought us!
They play hungry hippo football like Leeds did for the last couple of seasons. Sour grapes or not, think we’re a better team.
-
Death, taxes and Harvey Barnes scoring against Villa.
Back him every time. Very good player who we really should have bought. 10+ goals every season
-
Emery is not blameless picking that team.

We conceded less when Bailey was on though.
-
Emery is not blameless picking that team.

Playing Bailey was a mistake. It's as though Unai felt we could go toe to toe with them.
When has Bailey ever done well away from home?
-
That could probably have gone better in one or two respects, if I’m not being overly critical by saying that.
On the plus side, nobody's mentioned the badge/crest for hours.
-
Three ACL injuries in a calendar year is pretty amazing
-

And yet we were worse in the second half when he was off. Probably completely unrelated, but the second half performance had nothing to do with Bailey.
-
At least we know Emery will be fucking furious and working on fixing it already
Gerrard would be out on the piss with his gangster mates having forgotten the whole thing
-
Reminded me of our exploitation of Lverpools high line in the 7-2 game. Not sure whether it means anything in the entirety if the season but adjustments will need to be made.
-
We will be fine. Only one game and this manager won't let days like this happen too often. This time next week it will be normal service resumed.
-
At least we know Emery will be fucking furious and working on fixing it already
Gerrard would be out on the piss with his gangster mates having forgotten the whole thing
He better be, there’s a lot to fix. Monchi had better pull his finger out too, 3 players and £100m minimum needs spending.
-
Emery is not blameless picking that team.
We were arguably the better side in the first half. I don't think team selection was the problem.
Yeh Bailey in front of Cash was great.
-
I think, I hope, that we are about to find out what Emery is made of. Brings to mind the Toon pasting we took when our manager told the players to make their own way home.
-
Disappointing , fitness wise and organisationally the last 30 mins we were all over the place. Don’t think you can underestimate the impact of Mings injury on them. Affected them for the rest of the game, a few scrambled minds out there and his loss will be huge on and off the pitch.
Long season to come. We have the right manager and structure. We’ll learn from this and improve quickly as the team gels.
-
Why the fuck didn’t we go for Barnes?
“He doesn’t work hard enough”
*Leon Bailey starts*
-
We only lost 2-1 with Bailey on. We lost 3-0 without him.
Think about it.
-

I hope we don’t try and pin this on the Mings injury, that would be a cop out.
-
People having digs at Watkins who kept going, created the equaliser and was better than most of the team is interesting …
Kamara gave up, Tielemans was atrocious and the defence was even worse. I think we will bounce back though. Been a tough week and need to get behind the team at Villa Park next week.
-

Agreed. If losing a player, however influential leads to capitulation then we are in huge trouble. This is where you expect others to step up not give in.
I hope this is a blessing in disguise and Emery takes no prisoners. We’ll be fine and Emery will
sort it but he’ll need the cash to do it.

To be fair though they've lost two team mates to really bad injuries in 3 days. Yes someone should have rallied them and shown some better leadership skills after Mings went off but all in all pretty awful circumstances they've found themselves in. Shouldn't be used as an excuse for a 5-1 drubbing mind, but hopefully we can just write today off and get things back on track next week.
-
In footballing circles you damage limit at a 3 goal advantage - should have been a lot better in defence but early days
-
We only lost 2-1 with Bailey on. We lost 3-0 without him.
Think about it.
I agree, Bailey isn’t the problem, so I don’t get all the angst.
I think the biggest issue today was Cash getting the run around.
-
We haven't played well at all, but at least we're still in it.
This was at half time.
-
Full time.
I think I’m going to try fishing or train spotting
Same.
I might take up dentistry. On myself.
It’d be more fun.
