Can't he come back and coach us instead of Gary Mac?

Apparently the News of the World may be interesting tomorrow.
Is there a review of The Clash playing at The Odeon?

Check it out (http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/notw/public/home/)

I would, but you have to pay to read this shit online.
-
That's what I thought. No way I'm paying them money.
-
If it's good it will be everywhere before long. I can wait to read it for free. I find it funny that they think their stuff is that good people would want to pay for it.
-
Looks like they are trying to milk every little penny out of the British public ... who in there right mind would pay to view news of the world , the guardian maybe but NOTW ... Talking about Andy " twat " Gray... what has he done now has he robbed yogi bears food ?

Who knows? It's the way of the world, scandal sells.

Rupert Murdoch is not stupid. He will make online news profitable.

Admittedly I'm posting whilst having had a few glasses of wine. Personally, I dislike the use of the word stupid. My preference is along the lines of 'less educated' or 'not having had the benefit of a good education'.

Not having the benefit of a good education ? , My ideology is that regardless of the person having a good education or not , Its down to the person him or her self to educate themselves , The excuse that i was not educated properly or i went to a poor school is futile in my eyes . Gaining knowledge is effortless in this day and age its down to the will of one to educate themselves .

To be fair i like a wee bit of wine now and again ... though its normally before i indulge in something heavier ...

Bent's shagging Steve Bruce's daughter?!
The legend that is Lil Lee lives on! Don't know if it was true but you wouldn't want his left overs would you?
-
Bruce obviously did the best he could to move on his daughter's boyfriend to a top club!

While I understand your point that info is easier to access now than ever before, you're failing to realise that not everyone was brought up with the ideology of bettering themselves through education.
And going to a poor school is obviously the main reason why some people are poorly educated, that and other causes, poverty, undiagnosed learning difficulties, etc. You're being unfair.
Judging by your irregular use of punctuation and capital letters, you're not too well off in the education department yourself.

Bent's shagging Steve Bruce's daughter?!
The bloke who sits next to me at the match, his daughter works at some hotel to the north of the city. Newhall or something ... bear with me, I'm from the sunnier side of the city, so am not so familiar with that part of town.
Said that Bent is currently staying there (has installed his mate in the suite next door). Said that amongst other things, he's a very polite chap, has about 50 boxes of trainers in his room, and that his Mrs is drop dead gorgeous. Bruce's daughter doesn't strike me as all that.
Oh, and Kyle Walker is staying there too, and apparently is very shy and respectful. Apologises for just wanting a piece of toast for breakfast rather than the extravagant riches one gets offered at posh hotels. That sort of chap.
-
Newhall is the usual stop - lovely hotel and set in Newhall Valley which makes a nice run from my house when the weather is up to it. Never seen Bent about though. Funny if he is knocking off little Bruce, he must be sick of all things Villa related ending up inside his family circle.

Yep.
I'm mildly dyslexic, but worked my butt off, had to attend 20 minute classes in the Special Needs room to improve my skills. You can send your child to the best private school in the area, but ultimately it's up to the child if they want to improve and perform getting good results etc...
It's a combo of both. Of course going to a good school will give one an advantage, but you've still got to put the effort in etc...
You can still be 'clever' just not necessarily in an academic way.

And yet often the most intelligent people are the last to boast about it. The best read posters on this site would die a thousand deaths rather than show off.
And I bet you can't guess who I'm talking about.

You could go to Newhall any night and find Benty hanging out the back of it.

This is from tomorrow's Daily Mail. I assume it's along the same lines as the NOTW.

I presume they're running equally sordid stories on all footballers who get up to this? Not sure I read that he'd done anything illegal here - what's their point?

I think their point is sex scandal [using those words loosely] + celebrity = potentially increased sales. Any Andy Gray story at the moment is topical.
-
He does seem more than a bit of an arsehole, doesn't he? My cup of sympathy for him isn't exactly running over.
-
Dave can you put the NOTW article up?
-
Sorry but there is nothing unique in Gray's life story on various relationships mentioned in the article. I have one or two friends, hardworking talented captains of industry, who have similar track records.
-
This one looks half decent.
I would smash it.

I miss Gray and Keys on Sky, pair of cocks but their coverage was top notch
30 minutes would not have been enough time for "what a weekend" tonight
-
He's been too successful for his own good; his ego got out of control.
Working class guy who was unable to handle earning 7 figures a year.
Ugly fukker as well !
-
So was this a case of being fed duff info in the end then?
Had a flick through the NOTW while in Asda - couldn't see anything Andy Gray related?
-
You'll never see Andy Gray in ASDA
-
He's been too successful for his own good; his ego got out of control.
Working class guy who was unable to handle earning 7 figures a year.
Ugly fukker as well !
What a strange thing to say.
I don't think it has anything to do with him being working class, or the money he earns - he's been earning huge (for the average man) wages for 35 years now - and coped sufficiently well for him to become the face of television football in this country.
It is purely about him being a tit.
-
It's on page 14 , story about him asking a 17 yr old girl if she's a dirty bitch and if she was a virgin along with other too disgusting to print things at a villa old boys function, her dad went looking for him but gray had scarpered by then!
-
It was surely just friendly banter.
-
If you hAd a 17 yr old daughter and a man in his 50s asked her if she was a virgin and a dirty bitch before making lewd sexual comments to her would you see it as friendly banter , Damon?
-

He's joking.
-
He is.
-
sorry eastie, I was being sarcastic. That is my default setting.
-
No problem Damon , I did think you were serious at first, gray is an idiot and this article only enhances my views on him.
-

Really, so if he was earning £30k a year in a Dundee cake making company, he'd be the same bloke ?
He wasn't in the football era that made such money - he's made it at Sky and even then, not from day one.
He was VERY good at his job, which some ( including you) seem to have forgotten.
-
I don't think he was very good at his job, he was a patronising git who pandered to the media teams, especially Man U.
-

-
Well I dont condone everything he has done/said but I like him! I ve met him a few times and hes always been great and despite a lot of peoples opinion he loves the villa!
But I d smash his mrs

No, I can't see a single thing to suggest that his problem was his working class background leading to him being unable to handle making a large amount of money.
He managed it very well for 30 years.
I've not "forgotten" he was very good at his job, either, I didn't like him, and I thought he was poor at it.
-
I don't think he was very good at his job, he was a patronising git who pandered to the media teams, especially Man U.
Why did you watch him then ?
Because if you want to watch Premier League football in this country, you don't (didn't) have much of a choice?
-
Frankly, I'd simply like to remember a striker who helped making supporting Villa in my early-teens a pleasure.
Other than that, his is a story that could be told by plenty of a certain type of man who happen to have the fame/wealth/je ne sais quoi to attract a certain type of woman. It is not unique to the spheres of football or TV.
-

I watched cos I am interested in football. Amazing, eh? That might be the weirdest post I've ever read on here.
-
My first real football hero, hence the 'Oh Andy' ( You're the greatest the Holte end say).
He is a sleezeball according to various people I know that have met him but I thought he was excellent on Sky and I'm not enjoying their coverage as much without him. On the other hand that hairy handed c**t Keys hated the Villa and I am pleased he's got his desserts.
-
Agree about keys, I found his live interview on talksport quite fascinating - talk about digging his own grave! Grade 1 tosser!

Aye of course going to a a school that is located in an rough area is obviously going to poorly educate pupils due to the idiots that disrupt lessons . ... Poverty has got nothing to do with it .A kid in Africa will grasp the opportunity given to them if they had the same opportunity to learn , here the snotty little bastards have got it too easy .
My initial point still stands regardless of your upbringing or what school you attended no body has an excuse anymore (unless they suffer from learning difficulties ) .
And my mistake i did not know that it was required to be punctual in a forum , i should check up on the Internet rulebook on that one ...

Its called not caring about the way you type on an Internet forum .... why should i type punctually , what have i got to prove ?

I dont think education has got anything to do with his demise, his ego was way out of control, ego is like blowing a bubble gum bubble, keep blowing and eventually it bursts and you end up with it all over your face

Why you ask , well its pretty simple you go on the Internet to have fun , find information ,let loose etc etc , its a cyber life , life away from the real world people do as they please , if the same rules applied in real life as on the Internet then life would be as mundane as the real world is currently ...
So for somebody to lash out over ones literacy skills over the Internet is embarrassing on behalf of the accuser .

So you're actively choosing to look less educated than you actually are?
Well, if that helps you 'let loose' then best of luck to you.
As it happens, I don't think anyone really cares too much about accurate spelling and punctuation on this website. But if you happen to using one of your posts to slate educational standards you would probably want to make sure you're fairly bulletproof in that area.

Less educated ? i think not , this is how i am in real life why should i allure myself into something i am not ? , I am not some boffin who has a degree at oxford .I portray myself the way i am and the way i was bought up. Life is too short for people to be condescending on others.

Having only read the first and last pages of this thread I'm guessing the NOTW exclusive was that Andy Gray had a habit of being late for grammar lessons. The little rascal.
Punctuality is the virtue of the bored.

chortle

Unintentional comedy gold there.

I don't recall you having a go at Andy Gray before this erupted, it amazes me how all of a sudden people like you turn on someone who was in your living room for 20 years ( apart from Paulie, who has always hated him).
His private life is that, his private life.
He was excellent on Sky in my opinion and ensured that football was communicated to the masses far better than anything that the terrestrial stations dish up.

I'm sorry, but poverty is a major factor in some children under-performing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-11309250 That is one of many, many sources you'd find on this matter. Your point doesn't stand, it falls on its arse in the light of scrutiny. Or using google for 30 seconds. Isn't educating yourself using the internet amazing?
And, no, obviously there is no internet rulebook but when you're banging on about how no-one should have an excuse for not being well educated, you might want to make sure your use of grammar doesn't make you look foolish.

I tend to agree
Someone famous says something they shouldn't have when pissed
Whoopee do
is it any different to ashley young exposing himself on webcam?
-
I agree with this:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/jan/31/charlie-brooker-paranoid-about-snoops
"We've entered an era in which private conversation is impossible. Ever since Gordon Brown was caught calling Gillian Duffy a bigot, the tape's been left running. Paranoia is at an all-time high. MPs can no longer talk to their own constituents without suspecting they may be undercover reporters. Celebrities can't listen to their voicemails without wondering if they have been transcribed and passed to the newsdesk. Football commentators can no longer yap like oafs in their downtime. Everyone has become a reality show contestant nervously awaiting their own Shilpa Shetty moment."
-
To a certain extent, Deej, but the issue with Gray and Keys was that it was in the work place. It's not just a normal private conversation when you ask a junior employee to put something down your trousers.
-

Yep, if I was caught doing something like that then I would expect to be booted out. The fact he was the voice of Sky live football only adds to it.

I love it how all these women find him such a low life save for the fact they loved to shag him and presumbly help him spend his money. It's like those old black and white 'horror' movies, where the poor, defenceless woman says to the husband, 'yes I am just going down to the extremely dark, cold, scary forest to find our dog.'
He is a cock end who has been found out, but the women he has been with enjoyed it while it lasted. Save for perhaps Suzanne Dando who deserves every sympathy for putting up with him for 6 whole years coz she is a Goddess.
And as for Keys, never have I wanted someone to spectacularly fall from grace as I have done where he is concerned. First rate prick who won't be missed. Perhaps he could have a walk on part as a werewolf in some upcoming Hollywood blockbuster.
-
I have gradually come to dislike him more and more over the last 15 years or so, I haven't suddenly turned on him. He's better than Tyledsley or Motson but that's not saying much.
-
As for standards of grammar and spelling on this site, I tend to find people can get away with writing poorly if they are trying hard, and have something interesting to say.
Or if they appear to be a teenage girl.

Something interesting to say? Who was that then?
-
I remember seeing him outside Bobby Browns (there's one for the Birmingham Memories thread) one saturday night, I think it was his second stint with us.
He was whispering rather pissed up and loudly into this girl's ear "don't you know who I am?"
Obviously not Andy, else you wouldn't have to ask.

Should be a good game, I hope this doesn't affect her... If she can ask the ref to send Holloway off in the first minute as well that would be great.

Signed by TalkSport alongside Keys.
Start next Monday .........
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/feb/08/richard-keys-andy-gray-talksport
If Talk Sport could just sign Colin Murray and Alan Green as well i'll be able to start enjoying 5Live again.
-
Ah, Talksport, the radio station with an audience share of 2.3% among normal people and 100% among the key idiot demographic.
-
Isn't TalkSport another Murdoch company?
-
What's happened to Mike Parry,i quite like his bizarre ideas and rants?
-
Isn't TalkSport another Murdoch company?
I thought so too but UTV Radio bought them out.
Massive, massive chance for the two guys there.
Keysy's been brave and gambled, and Grayo's saying, there y'are son, it's yours on a plate, fill yer boots, and Keysy's gone, no problem son.
Bang, that's how it's done.
-
What's happened to Mike Parry,i quite like his bizarre ideas and rants?
Me too !
They'll fit him in somewhere else I guess.
Alan Brazil followed by Andy Gray hmmmmmmm, there's a whole lot of porridge going on here.
-
Following on from Chris's post, can we start a rumour that Alan Green said something sexist to get him off Radio5? Alternatively BBC just make the decision based on his utter shiteness
-
Surprised talksport see it as a major coup- to sign 2 unpopular presenters is hardly a major step forward for them - keys in particular is a nasty snide bastard and that's being kind to him, I will not be listening to their trash.
-

I am ready to accuse him of fondling my penis at knifepoint, if that will help
-
"Didn't 'e do well!!"
-
Marvellous. We aren't subjected to Talksport over here, which means that I'm safe from having to listen to Gray's witless interpretations of the laws of the game.

Listen to Radio 3 mate.

Listen to Radio 3 mate.
The reference is a bit lost on me I'm afraid. You might have to explain.
-
The nearest you get to edgy banter on Radio 3 is when Andrew McGregor does his CD Review on Saturday mornings, and makes bitchy remarks about the tone and pacing of operatic productions.
It's compulsive listening once you get used to it.

Not an Andy Gray or an Allan Green in sight also.

Kill two birds with one stone,'' Jamie Redknapp and Alan Green in spit roast shame''. Pretty unbelievable i know, but worth a shot to get rid of them both.
-

I'm still struggling to see your point. Are you saying that I shouldn't want good insightful punditry, and should be happy with the much being served up by Gray for years?
-
Is this the same Talksport that was on their high horse about the pair of them!
-
According to Adrian Durham show (which I do enjoy) Mike Parry has left the station for pastures new.
-
Atleast if he's on radio 'Keysey' won't have to wax his hands.
-
The first show should be interesting to listen to, I wonder if they will go for the shock jock reputation or whether they will be reserved!
-
Two more reasons to avoid TalkSport.
Weren't/aren't they another branch of the Murdoch empire?
-
More non-radio personalities parachuted in. Could be a good listen if it goes pear shaped.
Bad news is that Irani, Goldstein, Gough and Cundy are still employed. Ye gods!
-
Irani and Gough in particular.
What a pair of numpties !!
-
Irani especially.
-
I find Gough worse than Irani I have to say, he is possibly the thickest sports presenter I have ever heard, and that is being kind.
-
I'd rather listen to someone boiling a dog.
-
Irani.......a bloke from Bolton who supports Ure at football, then Wigan at RL, and today says if Spuds move to the Olympic stadium he would get 4 season tickets......the mans a c@@@.
Goldstein, i have to turn him off, never heard a bloke who is so up himself.
Gough.......disappointed in him tbh, great cricketer, a bit desperate to be a "radio star".
Hawksbee and Jacobs....brilliant.Jacobs is brilliantly pessimistic,a breakdown on national radio.Best show on radio by an absolute mile.
-

Gutted that Porky has left, was hoping he'd be moved to replace the tool Irani on the breakfast show. Can't see him turning up anywhere else.
-
Mike Parry - a man of high principals, unlike pricks like Durham & Co who suddenly have climbed down off their high horse! Mike will return in another media format to share his wisdom with the masses!
-
I really don't like Talkshit but I do think Danny Kelly is a decent presenter. I also like SVC.

Was with you all the way until you got to Hawksbee and Jacobs. I can tolerate Jacobs but Hawksbee is grade A twat. In fact, Hawksbee strikes me as a stereotypical cockney in that he thinks he's funny, and tries very hard to be funny but never is.
If you listen to their show you'll find that they spend most of the time talking about what's coming up next and asking listeners to phone in on various inane topics to cover for the fact that there's very little in the way of content.
Still, each to their own. There are a few presenters I like: Danny Kelly, Collymore, Parry, Graham, Townsend, (when he was on) and Danter (even though he's a nose.)

Think you're being harsh on Hawksbee. He has to rein in Jacobs alot when he goes off on his paranoid rants, and he's pretty quick witted,i think apart from Baker and Kelly,he's the funniest football presenter around.
-

Whilst agreeing with the general perception, I'll defend him on that one. There's no RL club in Bolton and consequently I know a few Boltonians who follow Wigan RL. Indeed, many people in the west of the borough - Westhoughton, Blackrod, parts of Horwich - traditionally have closer ties with Wigan than Bolton. The other RL club that has a following in the town is Leigh, which incidentally is where Irani was born.
-
Goldstein also supports Man Utd,born in London though, was a complete waste of space on Soccer AM

Of course it's all a matter of taste, but to me Paul Hawksbee is the nearest you'll get to a genuine football fan on Talksport. He also has a fine pedigree when it comes to writing having scripted for the Two Ronnies, Frankie Howard and TV Burp. Impressive stuff when you consider his colleagues, some of whom would struggle to write their own name.
-
Ten pages in and no one's mentioned that Andy's Gray's biggest crime is that he fucked off from The Greatest Football Club in the world a staggering three times!
He's a grade AAA c**t and yet still has devotees amongst our masses.
As for hawksbee and Jacobs, well one of them the most sycophantic suck up I've ever had the pleasure of turning off my radio. They make my fuckin blood boil grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
-
A friend of a friend was an apprentice at Villa when Gray was there and has a story of when before training Gray came into the dressing room after spending the night rogering some floosy. He then proceeded to wipe around his cheesy knob and rub his foul smelling fingers all over the young lads nose and mouth. What a lovely man

I'm not really interested in his antics off the pitch. For around 2 years he was the best and bravest centre forward I have ever seen in a Villa shirt - he was often carrying injuries aswell. I consider myself fortunate to have seen him - particularly 76/77.
His sale, along with John Gidman, arguably enabled Ron Saunders to build the best post war side we've ever had. So his Villa legacy cuts both ways in my mind.
-
Talksport know that people will tune in to listen to these 2 so not that much of a surprise.
The only pair on that station worth listening to is Hawksbee and Jacobs, they don't take themselves to seriously and just have a larf. The rest think they are some sort of oracles of footy. Irani is a thick as shit though and hasn't got a clue what to say next. In summary Talksport = 90% shite.
-
I find Gough worse than Irani I have to say, he is possibly the thickest sports presenter I have ever heard, and that is being kind.
Irani is a witless baboon, but listening to Gough struggling with the basics of the English language is excruciating.
He seems to struggle with knowing when to use "which", "when", "what" and "who"
Every time I hear him say "a player what'll score them goals", I wince.
-
I actually liked listening to Mike Parry. He was so fucking crazy it was entertaining.
-
BROADCASTER Mike Parry has revealed he quit his job with TalkSport just days before two disgraced Sky Sports presenters were given his daily radio slot.
Andy Gray and Richard Keys have been signed to present the flagship daytime show on the radio station.
From next Monday they will fill the 10am to 1pm slot occupied until last week by Mr Parry, who lives in Gosport.
But the former News columnist, a life-long Everton fan, said he could not think of anyone better than ‘my old mate and Everton centre forward’ Gray to fill his shoes.
Mr Parry said: ‘Andy gets my blessing. He’s one of my footballing heroes and I’m delighted he’s going to be doing the job that I can no longer do.’
Mr Parry said he quit the station last Thursday. ‘It was over a contractual dispute which has been dragging on since last summer after the World Cup,’ he said.
‘I’ve had lots of job offers which I’m considering. I’d be mad to quit a job like that and not have something else in the pipeline wouldn’t I?’ he added.
TalkSport moved for Gray and Keys two weeks after they were engulfed in a sexism storm which began after they made disparaging off-air comments about a female referee’s assistant.
-
Personally I think Hawksbee & jacobs are quality along wiht Danny Kelly
The rest of them are tossers especially Micky Quinn, whenver he's on it may as well be Talkscouse
-
think i've mentioned this before but about 10 years ago i got talking to a bloke in a pub who while watching sky on the telly let loose a stream of abuse when Gray appeared. Turned out he was married to Andy Gray's ex-wife
The tales his regaled me with of Gray's behavour would keep the NOTW going for a year. I think its a miracle he lasted this long before getting the push.
-
Personally I think Hawksbee & jacobs are quality along wiht Danny Kelly
I used to love Danny Kelly when he worked with Danny Baker, and still quite like him now, but now he's running shows himself, it lets him indulge in his biggest failing - his tendency to talk over people the instant he thinks up a funny quip.

Agree about the talking over bit, he is good on a Friday with Stuart Robson who is probably the best of the "old pros" so to speak
Baker and kelly upfront was proably the funniest thing i have heard on the radio.
They had a subject once that was "what did you or your dad make in yr clubs colours"
They had a bloke ring up from Dundee whose dad made him a plywood bowtie in the clubs, Baker and kelly pissed themselves and asked how he managed to wear it and the bloke said "my dad attached it to my neck with a leather strap but that used to affect my breathing so he then nailed it to a broom handle"
I nearly crashed the car

Will Asda advertise on the new mid morning show then?
-
My favourite Danny Baker call was one from someone that said that only half of his class could fit in the school swimming pool for the weekly swimming lessons.
The other half of the class had to go onto the playground, in their trunks, and dunk their heads into a bucket of water.
If I can find the clip I'll post it, it was truly brilliant.
-
There were so many funny moments
there was another quality one where a team used to play next to the london to Brighton road (the A whatever) and one of them hoofed the ball into the road where it landed in the back of some blokes convertable Triumph Spitfire without the driver noticing so he just carried on driving towards Brighton

Talk Sport Radio, which is really popular with taxi drivers and other men who work alone, has hired England's most infamous sexist broadcasters for a weekday mid-afternoon show. Demographic profiling truly is an unfathomable art....

How is Danny Baker by the way?
Great story on H&J a few years ago, about how you avoid any contact with anything associated with your biggest rivals.
Like the Spuds fan who refused to take the 1st prize in a raffle because it was a JVC recorder, but the winner was the Villa fan, who broke down on the motorway, with his family in the car, and refused to have his window replaced by a driver from AutoWindowScreen as at the time they sponsored Blooose, so he waited there another 2 hours to be seen by another company.
That Dundee Utd bow tie story is fantastic by the way.

Glad to hear that Danny Baker is back on the mend.

The Sky vaults are probably full of stuff like this, & it only gets wheeled out when the powers that be need to.

Someone at Sky obviously doesnt like Richard Keys as they have dredged out some 11 year old "racist" remarks, and some injudicious comments about O' Leary, JFK and Harry Bassett:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2011/02/12/sexism-row-pundit-richard-keys-shock-racist-slur-on-black-player-115875-22919246/
Sexism row pundit Richard Keys shock racist slur on black player
Shamed football pundit Richard Keys described a black player as “choco” in an outrageous racist outburst.
Keys made the shocking remark while rehearsing for a Sky broadcast with ex-footballers Graeme Souness and Ray Wilkins.
Referring to black David Johnson, a potential Scottish international, he casually called him “Choco Jocko”.
The presenter, who quit in shame in a sexism storm last month, did not realise he was live on a test channel.
It means Keys will walk into his first day in his new job at TalkSport radio station tomorrow having to answer serious questions about racism.
Last night anti-racism groups in the footballing world condemned Keys.
The disgraced pundit, whose sidekick Andy Gray was sacked from Sky Sports for sexist comments about female linesman Sian Massey, was discussing Johnson’s ineligibility to play for Scotland in a Euro 2000 play-off when he made the comment 11 years ago.
Keys explained the situation saying: “Obviously Johnson, who they’ve (Scotland) courted for some time like the Welsh, hoped to get involved and it transpires he has an English mother which means he can only play for England apparently.
“He was born in Jamaica and has played for them.”
Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins starts asking a question, saying: “Is it, is he not?” before
Liverpool and Scotland legend Souness interrupts and says: “He looks like a Jock doesn’t he?”
Without hesitation Keys replies: “Choco Jocko.” The sick joke is met by embarrassed laughter from others.
David Johnson, now a Nottingham-based football agent, said he was “very disappointed” to hear of the comments.
He added: “If I’d have heard him say that at the time I would have been absolutely furious.”
Ged Gebby, chief of Show Racism The Red Card, slammed Keys’ remark, saying: “There’s been a huge improvement in relation to racism in football in recent years, but individual comments are still being made, week in, week out.
“For a commentator to be making this kind of comment is outrageous.”
Keys was rehearsing at Sky’s West London studios before a UEFA Cup evening of matches when his remarks were fed out on a testing channel for a football interactive service.
The racist comment came nine days before the crucial European qualifier at Hampden Park in Glasgow, which England won 2-0.
But Key’s insults are not reserved for former Nottingham Forest player Johnson, 34. The foul-mouthed pundit also turns on former Leeds manager David O’Leary. When a pre-recorded audio clip of O’Leary talking about his team’s chances in a UEFA Cup clash is played Keys puts on a mock Irish accent, saying: “I’m the father. They’re young boys, Andy, young boys.”
After pausing to laugh he adds, “He says the same s***e every week.”
Ex-Wimbeldon manager Joe Kinnear is next on his list. When the issue of a vacant coaching job at Blackburn Rovers is mentioned Graeme Souness says: “Joe Kinnear will get that, won’t he?”
Keys, talking about ex-Wimbledon manager Dave Bassett – nicknamed “Harry” – retorts: “Don’t be daft – they need a proper manager.
"Joe would be like Harry Bassett.”
Keys, 53, then lays in to Sky viewers – the people who pay his wages.
Describing how to use the new interactive service, he says: “Press the help button at any time for information you fools.”
Explaining the process later he says: “Remember you can push the help button at any time for more information and if you can’t work this out you sad b******s shouldn’t have this kit.”
The latest scandal comes less than three weeks after Keys was forced to step down as a Sky football host.
He came under pressure from bosses after he and Andy Gray mocked female
assistant referee Sian Massey off-air.
The pair suggested she did not know the offside rule.
Three days later a leaked video showing Keys making vile, sexual comments about Jamie Redknapp’s ex-girlfriend Louise Glass was posted on YouTube and he resigned.
Keys said last night: “I absolutely refute any suggestion of any racism.
"This was off-air and 11 years ago and anyone who knows me knows that Ruud Gullit, Dion Dublin and Ian Wright are not only my past associates but some of my best friends.”
A spokesman for Sky said: “He is no longer an employee.”

Talksport should sack him

He's not a racist, some of his best friends are black.

Apart from the offensive remarks, what does that hairy fool know about football anyway?

I think the O Leary comment is actually quite funny. It did get ridiculous how pig face continued to refer to his players as 'babies', 'kids', etc.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Talksport are owned by UTV who don't have anything at all to do with Sky.
-
I like Alan Smith co commentating. There was only a mere wobble in his voice to describe the Rooney goal. I fear Gray might have drowned in his own Gizz had he still been at the helm.
-
From what I heard they didn't take any calls from the public at all, just an endless procession of "personality" interviews full of platitudes and cliche's.
Fans will be pleased to know that it was like a three hour version of the Last Word dull-a-thon. Without the bells, whistles and lovely colours though, but reasuringly as humourless and dry as it's TV equivalent.
-
A friend of mine at TalkSport says that they only employed them because Mike Parry quit. And Mike Parry only quit because he understood - mistakenly - that they had already been hired to replace him.
-
They were excellent - well played lads.
PS. A mate of mine met Cyril Regis a few weeks ago - he's still mates with Big Ron.
Not many on here will like that.

Because many don't forgive and forget - I don't know why not.
It's not just on here mind - it's human nature regrettably.

Perhaps the main difference between the two examples is that BFR is a bit more likable that Keysey and Graysey. For the former, it seemed more like a slip of the tongue (even though there had been one or two shockers prior to that). For the latter, it just seemed to be confirmation of what we already knew, ie they were/are a pair of hateful individuals.
All three deserved to lose their jobs. I don't think BFR has worked on TV since and hasn't been considered for a major role in the top two divisions. I can believe that he isn't racist on the basis that both Regis and Batson still have a lot of time for him, but it was an incredibly stupid and offensive thing to say. His pissweak argument -like Gray and Keys- that he didn't know the camera was still rolling didn't make it OK back then either.
-

Most people on here have a lot of time for both Cyrille and BFR.
-
Richard Keys was good doing those tile adverts today.
"Get down to Wickes for 33 per cent off ceramic wall tile, only £14.56."
-
I didn't think Big Ron was racist then and I still don't now.
He did a lot for black players in the game, He wouldn't have if that was how he felt. I know he hasn't really worked since but I think he'll be fine
-
BFR was never maliciously racist. Just an old sod, out of his time, who doesn't appreciate how offensive his comments were. Like a lot of peoples Granddads I would guess.
-
Tim - are you taking the piss in your odd back slapping well done lads comments of 2 grossly over paid men that are over grown oafs with little personality and much publicised misguided views? Well played lads? Seriously - they are on over 200k each to chat about sport on the radio. Even Darren Gough manages it. Amazing.
As for your comment re Ron and not many liking it - again - what? Most on here I would think are still very fond of Ron and his days at Villa.
-
So does Ronnie Irani. Sorry, I can't stand him.
-

Twunt. Thinks he is funny because he has a Bolton accent and is an Essex man. Makes him cool you know. Knows nothing about anything outside the top 4.

Good, that's that sorted then.

There's nothing odd with saying what you think, its just that what you think is a load of cobblers.
-
How is Danny Baker by the way?
Great story on H&J a few years ago, about how you avoid any contact with anything associated with your biggest rivals.
Like the Spuds fan who refused to take the 1st prize in a raffle because it was a JVC recorder, but the winner was the Villa fan, who broke down on the motorway, with his family in the car, and refused to have his window replaced by a driver from AutoWindowScreen as at the time they sponsored Blooose, so he waited there another 2 hours to be seen by another company.
That Dundee Utd bow tie story is fantastic by the way.
Funny that. there's a thread in off-topic started by lee about Autowindscreens which I refuse to read because of its link to that lot. Any company linked to that lot will never see a penny of my money, nor will i respect its position in anything it does.

\\oh and wouldn't get into an unt's shower as it was a triton one.

But surely by refusing to shower you run the risk that people might think you're a Bluenose?
-
But surely by refusing to shower you run the risk that people might think you're a Bluenose?
Tthe quandary was mulled over but as they live in the Little Aston end of Four Oaks I thought that highly unlikely.
-
Anyone know if Sky Sports shows previously hosted by Gray & Keys have had a drop in viewing figures since the sacking/resignation?
-
Welcome back Andy and Keysie.
Yes, they way they've risen above adversity, and struggled their way back to the "top", after a full two weeks without a job should be an inspiration for all other unpleasant, petty minded, bigoted relics.

You have feelings on the subject of 2 blokes that have been paid millions to abuse their position and then walked into another job like their old mates? Worrying Tim.
-
Not to forget that they were rubbish at their job too. That's my biggest bugbear about them. It seems that TTV is one of those that likes smug, lowest common denominator punditry. Which is totally fine, but just don't expect everyone else to accept it.
-
It's difficult to get the balance right, though. I always used to like Peter Brackley with Ray Wilkins on Football Italia, plus James Richardson (whose stuff is still very good these days) as the presenter, but I can see that those three probably wouldn't be right for Sky's coverage.
-
I think they were the best I have seen Paulie in terms of knowledge and presentation skill. Wilkins always seems to have a calm sense about him too.
-
What's coming through is that they were clearly hated before this erupted and it's just venting old feelings - negative ones, and not a lot to do with recent events....
Almost all non pint drinking females that I know think it's funny - they arent upset one jot!
It was funny listening to Keys taking up the 'how low ' competition today mind !!
-
bloody hell Tim. I know each to their own opinion and all that, but those two are just nasty pieces of work that have taken advantage of all and sundry, aside from their bigoted or prejudiced views. Remember, what we heard was just them being sloppy. You know full well they've probably said a lot worse and never been caught. They are exactly the type of people that should be called out, which it seemed they were until Talksport had them join their old boys network instead. You don't have to hate them, but tell me they aren't the types of people you'd endorse either.

I think "well done lads" and calling "andy and keysie" shows where TTV is coming from toronto.
-
When Keys did that appearance on TalkSport, I didn't imagine at the time that that was his job interview. Anyway, fuck Keys and fuck Gray. They've found their ideal location in that cess-pit of a radio station. If it means I never have to listen to them again, even by accident, then that's fine by me.

Where am I coming from then ?
I just don't have the venom against them - I think they're typical middle aged blokes who took their jobs for granted - however have done more good than harm during the past 20 years.
Neither in their jobs or private lives they are not perfect by a long chalk.
Villa fans sang 'Andy Gray my Lord' at Blackpool, nothing said about that here, well, I haven't seen it !
I do not condone their actions OJ.

They've acted as the face of the most pernicious entity in the history of association football. What good have they done?

Who was co-commentating on the fulham game last night? Dull as dishwater, at least gray injected some passion and excellent post match analysis. As for keys I don't like the odious little man but to be fair, he was an excellent anchor man, only surpassed by stelling for me.

Couldn't disagree more. Keys was fucking useless and Gray hasn't provided any decent analysis for 10 years.

A mate of mine told me that, when he was Villa manager, Big Ron's end of training session 5-a-side games usually took the format of "blacks v whites".
Better than shirts v skins, I suppose or bibs vs shirts.
I still love him though

Too right they have, they've been the figureheads for the "wrongest" part of a game which has gone very wrong indeed.

Ron said this in a fans forum when he was still Villa manager.

What I dont understand is why SKY felt the need to pay so much for their analysis.
Lets be honest if im going to watch Sky on a sunday afternoon it's because I want to watch the game not not because of expert analysis.
If at half time there was just a cardboard cut out of Lord baden powell and a bloke who was in the chorus of "Cats" then I would still watch it.
A bit comparible to BBC's evaluation of Jonathon Woss which was about 5.5 million miles away from everybody elses

Maybe, jut maybe we disagree - is that OK ?
Do you subscribe to Sky TV or Virgin ?
Maybe you don't. Maybe you are too old, bitter and twisted to embrace new ideas, new thinking, new anything - pernicious eh, man, that's exceptionally bitter.

It might have been "new"once but Keys and Gray have been trotting out the same tired old formula for 20 years now.

I simply questioned your assertion that they'd done more good than harm in the past 20 years. It's OK if you can't explain what you meant, there's no need to get het up about it.

To be fair, we used to play that at school in the playground as well.
i remember one, probably ahead of his time but we just thought he was gay, teacher telling us it was racist, to which one of the black guys said "No way Sir, it's great thrashing them white bastards every day."
Not sure this adds anything to the debate but it's strange what you suddenly remember!

I know, and it does need changing.
Enough so that Sky set their two former employees up !
Let's hope Sky utilizes an opportunity to freshen their service up.

It was obvious they were set up but i don't think they're going to be a massive loss to Sky, although i enjoyed The Final Word after the games on a Sunday on the occasions that i watched it.

Same here Dave, we had similar matches at school in the playground. Sometimes it was year v year too. Everyone shook hands and was mates with each other after the game anyway.

Yep, we split the teams all sorts of ways.

Clever ****** v Those in car maintenance
And, of course, Villa V Anyone else

i dont know how you can change the formula that much,
you just watch a match on the telly then a few blokes talk about it for a bit, thats it really. with maybe a few gadgets thrown in
some pundits you like some you dont, thats life i suppose.
for me the worst one by far is Ray Wilkins,
the most boring bloke in the world, always on message, always tows the ex profesional footballer line, and always says nothing of any interest.
he is the football equivalent to a talking Buzz Lightyear, you know exactly what he's going to say, just not the order he's going to say it in.
also the most overated footballer of all times.
but then some people like him, so it just goes to show, you cant please everyone.
[john e standing down] see what i did there ?

Ron Atkinson never shut up about Dion Dublins dick !!! He was either totally envious or realised why his misses had secretly been having her "me time" on the Soho road .........
-
The show didn't get any better today but at least they took calls from the public. I dipped in and out for the three hours but each time they were talking about Chelsea last night or Spurs tonight. They need to vary the content.
As a TV anchor man Keys was fine, but on radio you need to make up for the lack of visuals with rhythm and colour in your speech and he just hasn't got it. It's like one, long drawn out conversation with absolutley no levity whatsoever.
It won't go on like this, the producers will have to shake it up.

Dwight Yorke in his autobiography said something along the lines of Ron was racist in training but he put it down to him being old fashioned.

funny i like Wilkins, he is a genuine bloke, (i met him once) its a bit refreshing to have a bloke that does make some observations without over egging it and will admit when the replay shows he called it wrong
-
A copy of Gray's alleged resignation letter has emerged, although its authenticity is in considerable doubt:
I'm so sad to be leaving a company that I've served for over 20 years and a job that I've loved doing.
However, as I'm sacked anyway, I might as well tell you the story about my friend that I was going to tell on air next week.
You see, she got a job as a teacher of physical education to a group of teenage boys. One day she notices a boy in the field standing alone at one end of the field, while all the other kids are running around at the other end having fun. She takes pity on him and decides to speak to him.
"You ok sweetheart?" she says.
"Yes Miss" he replies.
"'You can go and play with the other kids if you want" she says.
"It's best I stay here Miss. " he says.
"Why?" asks the blonde.
The boy replies: "Because I'm the fucking goal keeper"
Yours sincerely.

Wilkins is OK - just a bit too London focussed for me and a tad boring.

Listened in to much of the Keys / Gray show today, I have to say it was very slick, entertaining and full of "people in the game" ringing in for a chat. Let's see how long they can keep the momentum going
-
Back in 1996 my now wife was at a funeral of a woman. Gray's girlfriend was best friends with the deceased. The wake was back at the family home with drinks and nibbles. Seems the drink got to Mr Gray and he was seen doing 'gambols' in the front garden. As you can imagine this didn't go down very well with the mourners.

Gambol was one of Gotham City's crime lords. He was the head of a black mob in Gotham City. ;)

Are you from the Midlands? Just asking because it seems a distinctly Midlands term and when I've said it (very rarely admittedly) in front of people from different parts of the country, they haven't had a clue what I was talking about.
Anyway, its a forwards roll.

It's a bit like islands and roundabouts .... we tend to call islands, islands.
In the south, they call islands, roundabouts.
Andy Gray lives near an island.

not acording to all those at Blackpool singing his name last weekend

I thought the Sky commentary on the Spurs game was pretty good. They acknowledged, correctly, that Spurs had played well but didn't work themselves up into a ridiculous frenzy. Watching that on ITV would have been unbearable.

Well, unfortunately, we do seem to have a fair number of twats supporting us these days. I bet the vast majority singing were under-16 and never saw him play... they just like to think that they are sticking it to "Political Correctness". They will be the same bunch singing 'hilarious' homophobic chants next time Matthew Upson is against us.
