We all want the club to compete, we're playing against elite clubs Bayern, Juventus & a lesser extent Celtic in an elite competition for the first time in 40 years. The prices will reflect that. Other clubs have been in the CL for decades & their prices reflect that. It's not a straight comparison.

You could argue there's a balance between getting maximum revenue & rewarding loyalty but the club are obviously targeting the former & it's no coincidence the article in the Athletic was released today.

There is no excuse for our prices - Newcastle were in the same position last season, and charged significantly less.  The club could charge £20 less per ticket and it won't make that much difference to the PSR position.

Lots of fans (myself included) are already having to make choices about which games to attend this season, and with these prices a trip to watch the Bayern game will mean as a family we won't be able to afford at least a couple of league games.  Is Heck that confident we will sell out against the likes of Bournemouth, Brentford or Southampton?  Yes we will probably sell out the CL games, but don;t be surprised if we have thousands of empty seats at other matches as a result.

Empty seats in the lower Witton Lane against Arsenal would point to the fact you are correct.

They'll have been sold, but just not taken up. Couple in front of me never do the first couple of home games every year.

The block next to the away fans was half empty. Not a few seats here and there but half of one block empty. I presumed they were GA+ seats.

I'm getting more messages from other fans about this than I have about the actual football.

It's utterly opportunistic shite.

I hate when the club gets bad press, but for this it's well deserved.

Article in The Athletic;

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5744092/2024/09/04/aston-villa-refuse-request-from-fan-advisory-board-to-cap-champions-league-ticket-prices/

"Aston Villa refused a request from their own fan advisory board (FAB) to cap the price of Champions League tickets with the cheapest adult entry now starting at £70."

Presuming accuracy, interestesting context points of info in the article

"For comparison, the cheapest Champions League final tickets at Wembley in June were £60."

"Before the start of the campaign and following consultation with FAB, Villa agreed to limit the price increase on an adult season ticket to five per cent, with all but one Premier League club freezing their prices."

Presumably decisions not to have the usual 4 pricing bands and not categorise the fixtures are income maximising attempts,

We all want the club to compete, we're playing against elite clubs Bayern, Juventus & a lesser extent Celtic in an elite competition for the first time in 40 years. The prices will reflect that. Other clubs have been in the CL for decades & their prices reflect that. It's not a straight comparison.

Interesting points here. We are about to find out the depth of Villa fan pockets.

Interesting way to mark the anniversary last year of taking away the free League Cup game, charging £30-£38 and putting an embargo on the low attendance...

By comparison, as a Union Berlin fan I paid €75 for a 3-match Champions League 'season ticket' last year (i.e. €25 per game, carriage and presentation souvenir pack included).

Pricing in England really does need looking at.

I'd like to take my nephew to his 1st ever game,  but with the likely hood of only getting 2 seats together being the most expensive at £97 (for child means I won't be . Absolutely disgusting prices for an under 18.

1 potential fan & one 40+ yrs as a regular potentially lost fan.
