Reading the latest, Rogers couldn't wait to leave!

Grealish and Rogers, two local lads. Neither could wait to get a move away. I don't quite get it compared to say someone like McGinn or Watkins from a similar era who seem to show loyalty to villa and believe in our project.

The latter two clearly didn't get a better offer the club would agree to (that's not to denigrate them, we all choose a better offer when we see one, even if we weren't looking for one).

Rogers has benefited from the way Unai improves players, who's to say he will be the same at Chelski. Grealish went to Man City a brilliant player and was turned into a robotic image of his former self. There is no loyalty in football anymore either from players or clubs we just have to adapt and get on with it.

Well, I never expected to read someone defending last summer's transfer activity with such passion. The window itself was a bit of a mess really, and I would say that the success of the season lay much more with the resolve it gave Emery and the senior players to collectively get their s*** together; and it worked very, very well. I wouldn't want another window like that however.
Nothing wrong with doing well despite the mediocrity of our activity during last summer's window, however.

I simply count keeping good players as an aspect of the transfer window, which is why I was confident that we’d have a good season at the end of it.

I know that foresight is not an exact science, but I’m surprised that hindsight isn’t.

Like Grealish though he'll earn more money and win more medals with Chelsea which will be a major salve to not enjoying his job or being the big cheese.

I preface this by saying I think Morgan is a brilliant player, who I absolutely wanted to stay, and who played a major part in our first major trophy in a generation.

However, when discussing him last night, I realised that when watching him at the World Cup, part of me was keeping my fingers crossed he didn’t mess up, or have one of his “off days” that we’ve all seen him have from time to time. I compare that to when Jack got his England chance and just kept shouting “just give it to Jack!”, confident he’d produce.

Maybe without Claret and blue glasses I can see Morgan as a really good player, who isn’t quite consistent enough to be top class?

I can’t imagine the Chelsea fans will be as forgiving when he has his quieter games where things don’t come off.

Grealish was a different breed and the better player. He was the best player in the league at the time. We knew it and so did everyone else. Rogers isn't at that level. Great player and we'll miss him, but we've lost more important and better players in the (recent) past.

Also the SCR benefits are huge and we all think like that these days. For that reason I've wanted it to happen all summer, which is ridiculous, but that's football now.

Three of the four semi finalists started with a Villa player in the side. We've never been anywhere near that before. I remember being chuffed when Alpay managed it.
