Well, I never expected to read someone defending last summer's transfer activity with such passion. The window itself was a bit of a mess really, and I would say that the success of the season lay much more with the resolve it gave Emery and the senior players to collectively get their s*** together; and it worked very, very well. I wouldn't want another window like that however.

Absolutely, if you need a big refresh it's better to be doing it with money in the bank and with a fairly strong team despite the handful of outgoings. I still worry it's going to be too big a change though, Liverpool is a very recent example of just how difficult it can be. Lets not forget they apparently had a terrible summer window 2 years ago, before winning the league. Stability and familiarity are wildly undervalued in football.

My Scouse mate was scathing of their recruitment, they needed a centre half, had Guehi in the bank, but spunked Rogers money on Wirtz, who as he says plays in the same position as their best player, Szoboszlai
