He’s well justified in being one of our top earners.

Those wages are quite grotesque in the current landscape of food banks.

They are, but then so is all football wages in the top leagues and they have been for many a year. But we could just sell him on and not compete with the other teams.

I think it's almost certain we'll be selling him if he has a decent season, just for a bigger fee than we would otherwise have got.  I used to think qualifying for the CL would make a difference, but it doesn't (Isak joining Liverpool for example).  Let's hope we win something while he's here.

Now with a 100 million + release clause, I would think.

Fantastic news. In his first season, I said we should be looking to build the team around him long-term. He's a special talent.

It's well worth the money to keep him at the club, hopefully for years to come.

Absolutely, but you might as well be a Bedouin complaining about the sand.

Hes an amazing player - and not at his ceiling.  Hes shown character in coming through his recent bad form - and its a lot quicker than players like Bailey.

We could build a core around him, konsa and kamara for the next 5 years and there will be few better in the world.

At the very least it will hopefully mean that if we sell him we get 90m +

I wonder if part the reason we had to move bailey and ramsey on was to release the wages for this

Basically, a cash bonanza for Villa after next year's World Cup.

Maybe if we win something and get into the CL then this one might stay? Who knows

Off after the WC. Possibly regardless of whether we qualify for the CL.

I don't know.  Morgan strikes me as one of the brighter footballers (he's certainly articulate), and it's not like his career as been a single straight line going up.  He's had struggles.  He's had bad loans. He knows what happens when you're forced into a system that doesn't suit you (you get sold to 'boro for £1m).   My guess is that he knows he's on to a good thing here, with Emery and in our system (which gives him certain freedoms that suit him well), and he would have to be convinced he'd get similar if he were to be tempted to move.

He certainly has the talent to play at pretty much any level, but if he stays in the England squad, and we're in Europe and challenging for trophies (winning one would be nice), then I don't see him moving on too quickly.  He'll be almost 24 at the end of the World Cup next summer, that's still pretty young, career-wise.

I'd be surprised if we don't get at least two more years out of him. But unless we become a title-challenging side in the next couple of years, I don't see him being here much beyond that.  Every player is replaceable, but a bit like Jack, it would be almost impossible to replace - like-for-like - the very specific stuff he does for us.

Isn't the point that it doesn't matter what he wants if we need to sell him?

Blimey, just signed a new contract and we are already selling him.
