Nine times out ten, he puts that chance away, especially with the form he's in. That happens whoever you are.
It’s been said he doesn’t like to give young players false hope. I don’t believe for a minute it’s a message to the owners who will back him. I don’t agree with it either but I believe this more than worry it’s a little dig.
We will beat teams such as Southampton/Palace/Everton playing this way, its the games against the likes of Liverpool / City that we will really struggle who high press. Results wise will get us mid table but at the moment that will be that.
3 points. Fairly drab game and Villa Park was flat as fuck. I expect better when I fly over for the match. Sing some songs you lazy buggers! Tsk!
I felt it was a game we controlled entirely, but not in a dynamic way. I felt we were outmatched physically in terms of height and power by Palace, but stymied those advantages well. I watched their game against Liverpool and they're incredibly poor to watch. There's no flow to the play and it's all diagonal balls over the top and percentage free kicks and corners. It was no surprise that the game was quite turgid.Tactically they attempted to keep our full backs pinned by pushing 4 high when in possession. It struck me that they'd not particularly seen us post Gerrard, which is how they beat us at Selhurst Park, by finding runners in big gaps vacated by full backs or between out of position centre halves. We played some very controlled football, but there wasn't enough in the final third. You got a real safety first sense about it all and that's fine, as long as you stay controlled to the last. And we did, despite the crowds protestations. It was good to see us playing out from the back until the last, under no real danger despite the Holte being antsy, right up to the end. There was no panic as under Arsenal.Certainly we can add a lot more going forward, there was a real economy of chances, but McGinn and Watkins missed opportunities that ought to have been taken. As much as it was excitement free, with only minor sparks of passing fluidity, it was entirely risk free too. At no point did Palace look threatening. The game was strangled. There's a lot of tactical strings to Emery's bow. I'm excited for the push toward the end of the season and even more so for what we can do next when he gets a chance to add. We're top 5 under him so far with Gerrard and Smith's squad.

We had one central defender on the bench yesterday, and he ended up playing in midfield. An injury to Konsa or Mings after that and we’d have had nothing.

We haven't played well all the time but have either won playing ordinary or created enough chances to get something from every game - Cit-eh aside
