Basically, he’s a really good coach, but I think this season has definitely shown Emery’s not so far ahead of sone other premier league coaches as I once thought.

I think Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton all have excellent managers

He’s miles ahead and has the trophies to back that up. He’s a fantastic coach who in the last few years and despite the massive injuries we’ve had has pulled this club up the league and into Europe on a regular basis.
I wouldn’t swap him for any other and I hope he stays here for a long time. He’s also put his staff together and they all sing off the same hymn sheet. I have total trust in Emery and the club as a whole when it comes to recruitment and every other aspect of the club.

You know the lack of awareness and appreciation for what Emery and his circle has brought this club is quite frankly staggering.

There might be coaches who out do him on a given day and he may not always set up as we think it should be - but Jesus Christ, three successive years in Europe and a squad worth a fortune etc.

Doing all of this with several major injury crisis and getting us 7th in his first half season with a poor to average team?

Come on guys, catch a grip.

It’s not either or though is it? I think most people on here think he’s an elite coach and are more than happy with the progress but are more than capable of realising he does get it wrong on occasion. Unfortunately for us this year that’s been in our big matches. But that’s life, I’ve long since given up worrying about it for days on end, August will be here soon enough and we can start the merry go round all over again.
Some big matches.
In other ‘big’ matches, we’ve won. Man City, Newcastle, Forest at home in the league. Bar a draw with Juventus, we won 5 out of 6 of our home CL games, including being the only team to put three past PSG.
My biggest villa relate concern isn’t Emery or his tactics, team selection etc, its post Emery Villa, which looking at his managerial career, could be after next season.

Point taken RaB re: some matches. I also worry about post-Emery Villa but I think it’s a longer time frame than you’ve said despite the past, he’s been given everything here I think more so than in any other role even PSG, I really think he sees this as the place to cement some more history.

It is his Cash at RB every game.
His absolute faith in Torres to the exclusion of Mings.
His pushing Rogers to the Right Wing to accommodate Assensio and leave us with no pace with neither providing any defensive support.
Yes what he has done is miraculous, but when he gets it wrong he gets it badly wrong and more concerning is his apparent inability or unwillingness to correct it.

Pau Torres PL

Tyrone Mings

If Mings had have played last season instead of Torres, then we'd have likely won the league instead of finishing 4th.

Yep it’s remarkable we didn’t get relegated last season.

Thanks Percy, I would like to think that it won’t be necessary to bring these stats up again in the Ming’s v Torres debate.

But I doubt it such is the willingness to select him and defend his selection.

He's raised our expectations so much that we now criticise him for failing to give us what he's given us to dream of.
Agree totally. Know folk are frustrated, but we have improved every season under him. We’re doing things now that, when he came, people were saying were impossible with most of the current squad.

It’s not been perfect, but bloody hell this guy is good.

I'm worried that the fact we haven't won anything will lead to a premature departure for Emery, in that he may get frustrated with PSR and join a club that's allowed to cheat.

For all the misgivings mentioned above, like all managers, he has his blind spot(s) but what he has done is incredible. It's such a stretch to keep up with the cheats, Newcastle benefitted from that decision over the weekend so how's that for fine margins?

I really thought this was the season that we would break the trophy drought, now I believe it will be next season.

Yes if he is here towards the end of next season that will be his longest spell as a a manager at any a club. 3-4 years is quite a long time for any manager these days. So…. No messing about, let’s actually win something next year!

The eye test suggests Torres has regressed on the ball this season too. Gets caught on the ball frequently. Don't think he has been the same player since Luiz left, they used to combine really well with Torres stepping into midfield to give us a three in there. That rarely happens these days. Needs to hit the gym this summer.

3 games Mings had to start he didn't for me and it cost us our season. We need Emery to get over his Torres love affair, and quickly.

For me the two main mistakes Emery made were the overuse of Rogers and the underuse of Malen.

Number 2 and 3 on my list lol. Malen has been criminally under used and much like Torres, Rogers should have been benched for 3-4 games to rest. He's played on empty and suffered for it.
