I was imploring him to take Maatsen off to restore some order to our left hand side.
Maatsen was having a mare.

That attempted header back to the keeper from the halfway line was special!

His lack of awareness for the bloke he was marking to get a free header to score the first, his charging into the same bloke for the penalty on top of his multiple fuck ups in a train crash of a performance will live long in the memory.

Yet, in the semi final, the game was crying out for Maatsen to play.

We didn’t play well as a team and we didn’t utilise our attacking threat at all.

He really struggles against teams playing 3-4-3. Not sure why that is but I hope he figures it out pretty quick.

Man Utd have lost 20+ games this season. He shouldn't need to look too far to see how it was done.

Was a poor defensive effort for their first goal too.  Great going forward, but I think Digne is the better player overall.

Pace on the wing and balls over the top when they press. Look at what Bailey did against Palace in the Semi final when he was allowed on for example (less when he came on at their place because he was tasked to be a wing back instead). But Emery has drilled one style into his players and has his faves unfortunately. The one style works more then not but the not is when a team presses high with an overloaded midfield which you get with wingbacks.

Does seem to be some players "need" to come on when on the bench. We have had matches when people have stated we need to replace Digne with Maatsen at half time. I've also seen us concede similar goals at the back post with Digne allowing his man to get away from him.

I'm not stating he shouldn't have been subbed or Digne shouldn't have started but the whole defensive display across the team was atrocious apart from pre-red card Martinez and I don't think a change of full-backs would have made much difference.

I wish he'd looked before yesterday.

Basically, he’s a really good coach, but I think this season has definitely shown Emery’s not so far ahead of sone other premier league coaches as I once thought.

I think Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton all have excellent managers

If Emery was Newcastle manager, we wouldn't be disappointed in missing out on the final day.

You know the lack of awareness and appreciation for what Emery and his circle has brought this club is quite frankly staggering.

There might be coaches who out do him on a given day and he may not always set up as we think it should be - but Jesus Christ, three successive years in Europe and a squad worth a fortune etc.

Doing all of this with several major injury crisis and getting us 7th in his first half season with a poor to average team?

Come on guys, catch a grip.

It’s not either or though is it? I think most people on here think he’s an elite coach and are more than happy with the progress but are more than capable of realising he does get it wrong on occasion. Unfortunately for us this year that’s been in our big matches. But that’s life, I’ve long since given up worrying about it for days on end, August will be here soon enough and we can start the merry go round all over again.
