PL16 W11 D3 L2 since losing to Liverpool nearly 3 months ago.

Repeat that form* in the second half of the season, and we'd have 82 points.

*I'm allowing for one more win, loss and draw in the additional three games.

Since MON left this is our 11th PL season. After 20 games we already have more points than we managed in 6 of the previous 10 full seasons.

Big selection decision I thought today to stick with Bailey and particularly Diaby. Rewarded with a goal for each.

I’d like to think for the vast majority of those criticizing Emery it’s momentary and emotional. But unless you’re fucking off your head, when things calm down it’s almost impossible not to be highly complimentary of what he’s done and achieved in just over 12 months.
Eh? Who has been criticising Unai Emery?

Is it Cooper's Injury and Sickbeggar?

Very true, Diaby passed up a bunch of chances but especially second half played so much better than recently.

and now 17 from 8, which means in a month where we've looked tired, not been at our best, had people proclaiming we'll struggle to stay in the top 5, etc we're still going at better than 2 points a game and are still right up at the top of the form tables. This isn't having a go at anyone or trying to pick fights, just pointing out that if you take a step back we're still in a fantastic position and still right in the title race.

also worth noting that there's been a lot of criticism of the defending but there are only 3 teams who've conceded fewer than us.

We've played 7 league games in December. Our 8th game was Mostar.

That's actually remarkable, I presumed we'd be alot lower than that.

Yeah, for some reason I thought your post was from before the game, doesn't really change my main point though which is that sometimes when we have a bad day people need to take a breath and think about how far we've come. I know BE decided to make a bad bingo joke of it but it's true that 12-18months ago no one would've predicted this and given how many of the players are the same that does need to be. I know match threads are emotive but that negativity leaks out into the whole forum far too easily and you end up with threads like Durans and Diabys getting full of comments about how they're not good enough.

Newcastle have also conceded fewer. The big thing though is that only Man City have scored more. Although 5 goals for Liverpool or Spurs could change that. Or 8 for Arsenal.

Like our overall form, goals conceded is very, very different between home and away. At home, the 8 goals we've conceded is only bettered by Newcastle and Liverpool. Incidentally we're four points clear at the top of the 'home' table. Newcastle are second, which surprised me.

Away from home, the only teams who have conceded more than our 19 are Sheffield Utd, Fulham, Luton, Forest, Bournemouth and West Ham. Newcastle are second bottom of the 'away' table, which is a crazy disparity from their home form.

42 league games in 2023, 85 points. Only Man City had a better year.

Wasn't it 93 versus 85 for us, with Arsenal in 3rd with 81?
