And to be truthful we were wasteful against Abu city. 1-0 was not good enough, only 4/5 nil would have counted.

Against Arsenal we were perhaps a little fortunate to win 1-0, against City we were unfortunate to only win by 1-0.  Same result, but entirely different performances.

True, and I'll take the two 1-0 wins over a 4-0 win and a draw.

5 if we make a rare appearance in the 4th round of the FA Cup! Which will come straight after our 2 week break post Everton game.

Hark at Mr Positivity here with his talk of <checks notes> 4th Round FA Cup games. Madness.

There's a FOURTH round?

Our 32nd win of 2023 in all competitions. A new club record for wins in a calendar year. Unai is doing alright for a bottler.

re some of the concerns over recent performances - Liverpool, who are currently top, have put in some really piss poor performances of late and been fortuitous to get all three points. You can't just sail through winning every game that comes your way. I think that is being forgotten a bit lately.

And, i know it's boring because it is said so often, a sign of a good side is that it still wins, or gets at least something, even when playing badly.

We have been without Torres - who is absolutely vital to how we play - and Kamara for three games now, and Teielemans has been out too, and we've played SEVEN league games in december plus a trip to Bosnia in the middle.

To finish the year on 42 points is absolutely incredible, what an insane job he's done. We now have a transfer window about to open, no European distractions for a couple of months, and only two league games in January. Perfect timing for us to freshen things up.

The guy is a miracle worker.

Yeh. Very simply, thank you Unai Emery for restoring our love for this club. Just brilliant.

After a decade of setting club records for being utter shit we're now creating regular club records for being fucking ace and have spent over a year being one of the best sides in the country. Some of the criticism of Unai and the players has been ridiculous.

I’d like to think for the vast majority of those criticizing Emery it’s momentary and emotional. But unless you’re fucking off your head, when things calm down it’s almost impossible not to be highly complimentary of what he’s done and achieved in just over 12 months.

Yeah, frankly he currently has some underperforming players who should be doing better, and while it is up to him to get the best out of them, well, it's not like he needs to prove anything on that front. Also - most unlike his predecessor, he hasn't shifted blame for a result onto the players for one syllable this season. He remains the best.

Yeah, the missing players are key not only because they are better than their replacements by a factor of about 5000, but the replacements are still getting used to Emerys system next to players they haven't played with very much.

Same thing happened at the beginning of the season with Torres & Digne dropping in, until they all got used to each other & our defence tightened up.

These replacements wont really have the time to get accustomed to Emerys system as the first choicer's will come back into the fold & we should tighten up again.

And these injuries & suspensions came at the wrong time because as you mention, we have played a lot of football in December & despite a few hiccups, we have managed to get through it all pretty effectively...

We got through our most demanding month mentally and physically second in the league and in the knockout phase of a European competition. That’s something beyond our wildest dreams.

Unai Emery: “It’s difficult. It’s a lot of games for the players – too many. They are at risk of some injuries”.

“I can give my opinion. It's difficult for the players. Lots of teams have players injured and maybe more than normal…”

14 points from 7 league games in December.

PL16 W11 D3 L2 since losing to Liverpool nearly 3 months ago.
