Whatever happened to our proud motto of "I told you we'd lose"?

Alive and well here. Ever since I saw the Saudi game against The Rangers where they were playing the ball around beautifully I knew they'd be well prepared. Their next game against us in the US was more an experimental exercise on their side, not that we didn't destroy them first half. It was the best 45 minutes we played pre-season and even then we went in at HT 2-2 due to sloppy defending which since has become the norm.

I'm expecting Unai to now stick with Carlos and Torres, he'll want them to build up a strong partnership and I think they will. It's his tinkering with the midfield that concerns me more. Square pegs in round holes..

This is Unai Emery we're talking about. He's brilliant and we have largely been brilliant since he arrived. We will return to being brilliant, starting on Sunday.

Moreno and Ramsey destroyed their right hand side at VP so big blow not to have either around. Digne did his best and set up the goal but Moreno is better at both ends.
I also think for all the stick he gets someone like Donk to come in for games v physical midfields is still an option we need, he also started the Newcastle home game and completely nullified Joelinthon.
We got bullied from the start yesterday. Odd watching us since Emery come in and not have control/tempo of midfield area for at least a chunk of the game.
No way Donk was matchfit though. Tielemans as a starter would have been a better option of those available to play.

I think that this might happen from time to time, a great shellacking, due to the risky strategy we employ, but that strategy will yield more results and achievements than alternative, more conservative approaches.
And, I'd add, that with this manager I think such adversity as that which we're faced with today will get turned into a - hopefully - very useful learning experience. Whereas in the past these big scores have left teams reeling, I'd like to think that this guy is different.

Saturday felt different to Leicester though. In that match, we were mostly on top and actually played OK, it was just 4 pieces of individually shit defending that gave them 4 chances and goals. Against Newcastle we were just dire all over the pitch. Everything was wrong and they could have scored 8. That's harder to put right than just cutting out daft mistakes.

Newcastle are ten times the team that rabble was, though.

From another decent manager…an opinion about the team he watched at the weekend that impressed him the most.

I’m always wary whenever Ferguson starts praising us.

I agree with him. I watched the rerun yesterday and honestly we are a total pleasure to watch. The speed at which we move and pass is enthralling. We just got done by not getting the hi line right.

It was only the 5th goal where you could argue the high line was a contributing factor to the goal, but the players had completely given up by then.

1) Sloppy defending with everybody on the edge of the 6 yard line.
2) Badly defended free kick
3) Fuck up from Konsa gifting the ball to Isak in the area
4) Just bad marking of Barnes and Wilson

It might be typical Fergie kidology if he thinks Newcastle are more of a threat to Man Utd.

Then again, at the moment I’ll take it, like him or loathe him, he knows a thing or two.

I still maintain that at 1-2, I still fancied us to pull it around and possibly even win, blind optimism maybe, but i thought we were playing good football. But the Konsa error killed us and like you say Risso we fell apart defensively (from the midfield back) after that, although if Cash had buried tgat one who knows.
