I think you will also find that everyone’s use of English is poor on this and post match thread.

Losing Buendia is though for me is a huge huge blow for us this season.

Agree.  It’s been mentioned before but his pressing and defensive abilities high up the pitch are integral to playing the high line.  If Buendia and McGin aren’t hassling their players then it is easy for them to pick passes over/round the high line.

Re: the high line, he’s not going to give up on it. In fact, it’s a tried and tested tactic that works for us more often than not. My worry is that we continued with it for all 105 minutes. Even when they were beating it once every 3 minutes and we had a really slow defender up against really fast attackers.

If we are going to move forward this season we absolutely need;

A new centre half capable of leading even on loan.

A replacement for Cash.

Ditto Digne although I’ll wait for little Alex.

Someone to challenge Watkins.

A new back up keeper.  Olsen just no. 

And now possibly a replacement for little emi.

We are still starting games with a midfield that cost £17m.  Watkins cost £28m plus add ons and that’s what you get a 12-15 striker in this league with as many misses as goals.

A ‘Ronnie Johnson’ style signing on a 1 year deal would be perfect if Mings is out for much of the season but can we find such a player?
We do still have 4 centre backs but much will depend on whether Carlos and Torres can be the players they were in Spain in the premier league. We should be sorted for European games with those 2 though. I fear a bit for Konsa without Mings next to him and Chambers is only back up really.

As shit as Cash was yesterday we don’t need to replace him but we did always need a good natural right back to compete with him even before yesterday.

Yes, as pre season went on it became more obvious that we needed another centre forward. Still the case.

A better back up than Olsen has been a must since the Stevenage game and if we don’t do something it will cost us.

The Italian lad from Gala will be fine as Emis replacement for the season.

Our midfielders are of high quality which makes yesterday baffling. All 4 were shite, Kamara the least bad.

In addition;
If there’s any way we can ditch Bailey and Traore and buy another forward to replace those I’d go for it. Coutinho I’d give till January, if he hasn’t shaped up by then he never will.

It's a very good point. It was a clear tactic to foul at set plays on the edges of the game. The second goal is a blatant foul on Cash which stops him tracking the run. Newcastle were good at the dark arts last season too.

The commentator said some about officials “raising the threshold” for fouls this season but it only seemed to apply for Newcastle and we still got pulled up for every nudge.

At the VP game we did very well avoiding their press by playing longer to McGinn who held it up for the runners from midfield. We didn’t seem to even try that tactic regularly yesterday. Strange.

I think McGinn should have been doing that.

Saying that I thought  the main issue was starting Bailey. It looked a little too ambitious in a game like that formation wise and I would have had Teilemans in (he was shite when he came on I’ll admit though).

In hindsight we could even have had Konsa right back and Cash further up a bit deeper than where Bailey played.

Moreno and Ramsey destroyed their right hand side at VP so big blow not to have either around. Digne did his best and set up the goal but Moreno is better at both ends.

I also think for all the stick he gets someone like Donk to come in for games v physical midfields is still an option we need, he also started the Newcastle home game and completely nullified Joelinthon.

We got bullied from the start yesterday. Odd watching us since Emery come in and not have control/tempo of midfield area for at least a chunk of the game.
