We got a pasting - at home - from a side that went on to get relegated last season.

You’re correct of course, I’m just struggling to shrug it off like others
Honestly wish I could but that manner of the defeat is just too much for me

I mean if we didn’t have the best goalkeeper in the world it could’ve been double figures.
His face after number four went in was the Grealish face I saw a few times it was the ‘what fuck am I doing here playing with these idiots’ face

I’m just depressed by it all

Yeah, and then went on a mad run like it had never happened.

Yep exactly. A pasting happens sometimes, we just need to make sure we respond in the right way and win the next couple.

I do think the Mings injury had a massive impact on us - not just the obvious, ie not on the pitch any more, but mentally.
I agree, he’s a huge character, a natural leader and is one of our best players. Absolutely gutted for him, the squad and us fans.

I know they are well paid professionals but some will be affected by his injury and pain he showed during the rest of the game, and some will be turning up at BMH today, but I’m really hoping that in a few weeks post op starting a very long recovery process when he’s back in the building they will show positive again, even without him on the pitch.
Many called us a one man team with JG, and many may now with Ty missing, but it really is a massive hole to fill for Unai and team, given his pace, organisation, motivational , ariel and directional skills on and off field.
This is something that wouldn’t have had to be planned for with the 4 CB’s we had so the first real massive test for Unai, to see who comes in and how we progress defensively from it

We beat the shit out of Geordi Arabia just a few months ago. It doesn't seem to have done them any harm.

My view is we're a work in progress. We're also Aston Villa and we don't do consistent improvement. Even during Saunders' time. The second half of last season was unnaturally good but it would be mad to think it will just carry on without some ego-deflating crashes along the way. We'll be okay though.

I also blame everyone who's booked accommodation in Athens. Whatever happened to our proud motto of "I told you we'd lose"?

There is talk of the final being moved ...

Exactly. Which is why I’m not remotely worried. Man U lost 7-0 to Liverpool and qualified for the CL and won a cup. It happens. We have the best manager for this because he isn’t going to toss out some sound bites. He’s going to pick everyone up on the back of this game, on the back of two massive injuries and get us back at it. But he’s human too and you could see how much Mings injury itself, let alone two in 3 days really affected him. These are real people too not just footballers. There is natural emotion tied to all of this. We will get through it though. I’m convinced of it.

We lost out most vocal on-pitch voice to an awful injury in one of the loudest away grounds, when we were already 2-1 down.  The result against Newcastle will no more define our season than losing 4-2 to Leicester did last season.

I very much hope it will be our worst result of the season, but losing away to a team that qualified for the champions league is not a result that makes us a bad side overnight.

If anything, I hope it helps Unai eliminate any complacency that might have started to creep into some of the players after our European qualification last season.

I can see this is going to be a very long week.

That's because we have 8 days between the games.

Funny, cos I imagine some of his teammates and supporters were asking similar of him when he raced out of his goal and took down "Miggy" Almiron.

It's not shrugging it off as much (although I can see why it might come across like that). It's more a case of not dwelling on it. It's gone for me now, it's on to the next one.

Not overly concerned long term as the Manager will analyse and insist on those players watching and learning from that game - as they made a lot of individual and collective mistakes.

The Mings injury, once we all knew how serious it was, must of effected the defence and coordination of which Ty is the major influencer.
A new guy coming in at CB against a team on the up at home and we were always going to be under the cosh.

We will get better, we will buy  / loan more players and i feel Everton could be punished

Something that is creeping into our game, and I include the preseason fixtures...we are shipping goals when before we were very mean in this regard.

Saturday felt different to Leicester though. In that match, we were mostly on top and actually played OK, it was just 4 pieces of individually shit defending that gave them 4 chances and goals. Against Newcastle we were just dire all over the pitch. Everything was wrong and they could have scored 8. That's harder to put right than just cutting out daft mistakes.
