Hysteria - plain and simple.

Jesus.

Some posters on here would rather resign from all cup competitions than risk three points in the league due to our players being a bit tired.

Yes, but there are plenty of people on here arguing against things that people didn’t say, so I thought I’d join in.

There was a Villa fan on TS claiming he’d have preferred to win the CC than stay in the PL this year - holy fuck! I guess we want different things

I am actually fed up of it all. We have something fans have been crying out for (as long as I can remember to my childhood days) great owners, a top manager and a round badge and it's just moan, moan, moan.

Some seem to have short memories about the lows we have been on recently or the fact that we went 27 years without beating them at home. Yet it's moan, moan, moan that we didn't beat them twice in  the space of 5 days.

My point is, if we aren't patient now and aren't going to let this manager build something at our club with these owners then it's just not going to happen for us. This is our chance. But negativity always holds us back and I hate seeing it on so many threads so early in this manager's reign.

Errr…are you suggesting that there should be no critical view on a match where the current manager made a right hash of it?

But as is quite often the way, people like you are getting their knickers in a twist about things that haven't been said. There was no good reason to play Olsen instead of Martinez, none whatsoever, and it played a huge part in us losing the match. Of course there's never any guarantee of winning a particular game, but you have to give yourself the best chance. I'm very happy we've got Emery, and I'm sure he'll be a big success but Thursday night's team was shit, and there was no real need for it. We've got one game left then a month off. He could have used the game to hone his message for the first team, instead we're going into a difficult away match on the back of a hugely demoralising performance and result.

Good luck Risso.

Most of these nutters are having arguments with voices in their own heads.

Spot on in every respect. Everyone’s happy to have Emery as manager and optimistic he will be successful. That doesn’t stop a very widespread and justified disappointment about what seems an unnecessary choice to play a weaker team than we could have on Thursday.

I hardly think it was a hugely demoralising performance Risso. Now who's getting their knickers in a twist?

Completely agree. I’ve tried to ignore this place a bit since Thursday. I realize we have come off a rough last few months with a manager in charge created a less than harmonious environment. But he’s gone now. And our owners who have spent hundreds of millions went out and got a proper top manager. We have a superb club, stadium, facilities, lots of good players. Yes of course we need to improve in some areas. But the amazing feeling form the weekend for some was completely eradicated because he played a less than full strength side in the league cup. All of a sudden the knives are out for him. I just don’t get it. Of course we all want to win something. It’s been forever. But for the first time we have staff at the club that given time and patience will legitimately build a solid squad and team from the ground up. I just want to judge him on more than a game or two and one bad defeat that actually could have been avoided if the keeper didn’t make a really bad mistake. The side we put out did enough to win that game.

I must have missed the posts where “the knives are out” for Emery.

If you don't think losing 4-2 after leading twice and your keeper giving one of the worst performances ever is demoralising then you're one of the people Percy is referring to above.

He has to be given the time and space to be allowed to watch all of his players in a competitive environment.  The fact that Olsen and a few others were poor gives people the chance to ave a pop, but I trust Emery's judgement and am sure that we won't be doing the same in the FA Cup.  He will have learnt a great deal from that defeat.

I know I’m probably asking the impossible for this site but is it not possible to just accept that others are allowed to see things differently rather than going round in circles? Nobody is going to change their mind despite the brilliance of the arguments put forward by both sides.
