Re, Lineker, not that it makes right or funny, but I imagine if we scrolled back to forum posts in the Other Games thread when he was Arsenal manager that some of us may have "textually impersonated" him in the same way without anyone batting an eyelid.

I dont think there's any harm meant from Lineker. He seems to have a pop at the right people when he needs to and he's not the kind who's going to tweet it over and over again.

It was Jim Davidson style childish and pointless

It's always puzzled me, is his surname one of those coincidences where a name will pop up in different place e.g. Lee in Ireland and Hong Kong. Or does he have a random British ancestor (or Emerys here have a random Basque ancestor)?

Sack the scouser on Thursday night and appoint Emery Monday morning.. how about that for doing business?

I’ve a feeling this appointment was further down the line than we think.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Unai accepted on Thursday, so the past few days have been just finalising things

The timing is good with the World Cup break coming up. Unai will have a good five plus weeks to work with most of the squad to get his ideas/tactics across. No doubt some friendlies will be arranged to keep up match fitness.

Which of our squad are actually going to the World Cup? Martinez, Cash and??

Maybe Mings and Luiz?

Would Lucas Digne be fit enough and be selected for France?

Doubt he'll be fit enough.

Bednarek? Could Buendia play his way in?

Couldn’t be happier, probably the most successful manager we’ve ever appointed, our owners have shown they still have ambitions to compete at the top table, he will feel the love in the home game against United and be one of us, welcome Unai to the greatest club in the world.

He's going to realise just how lucky he is when he walks out against Man Utd. The atmosphere will be cracking!

What style of play does he advocate
dont confuse me with formations,
Pays it deep, though the middle, out from the back, counter attacking, wide and expansive ?

4231, but quite a defensive / deep version of it I think (I know you said no formations but still).

From what I have read he is prepared to adapt to different game situations, he can set the team up to play long periods without the ball and counter attack, as well as possession based.
His teams are very well organised and coached. He does employ the high press to try and gain possession up the pitch. He definitely plays out from defence.

Disgusted however at  his interviewer,Sid Lowe's tweet tonight,.'.his going to Villa is really disappointing,on many levels' What a complete arsehole.

I kind of like Sid Lowe so for now I'm going to interpret that the most generous way I can and that is that he feels it is disappointing for Villareal to lose their manager mid-season and further proof how far La Liga is falling behind the PL.

I like Sid Lowe too and, knowing his passion for Spanish football, that's my take on it.. Not worth getting too worked up about.

Dougie I reckon if he carries on like he is

Bednerak, Martinez, Cash are all going I think.

Possibly Coutinho, Buendia?

Mings and Watkins probably missed the boat now.

This should have been the appointment to succeed Dean Smith.
Delano have put in place a great 4231 (ish) which just needed tweaking with a couple of additions.
The building blocks were in place, and we needed someone to take it to the next level.

Gerrard came in and dismantled things and tried to rebuild to his system using the same players, hence square pegs in round holes.

The playing staff haven’t really changed from Deans time, so, hopefully it won’t take much to get them back firing
