Apart from Sanson for McGinn (and Digne for Targett if he is signed in time), I'd go with the same line up from Monday with Coutinho off the bench. Let them try and get revenge first.

Oh and I'd be making sure all the players know that they have to get onto the officials from minute 1. No meek acceptance of decisions again. Draw attention to things.

Marcus Rashford has been in terrible form, looks disinterested and has been getting stick in the press .... that's 0-1.
They didn't get a penalty on Monday, and Fernandes has been in terrible form, looks disinterested and has been getting stick in the press .... that's 0-2. (0-3 if he smashes the ball in the net again in celebration and VaR decide to award him a second goal.)

So we need to score at least 2 to get a draw, 3 for a win.

A difficult one to predict because var and dodgy refs usually have the edge over us when playing these and others like them.
Obviously hoping for a win, but won't be surprised if controversy decides this one again at our expense.

I'd start Coutinho. Should get 60 minutes out of him. THink it would massively lift the crowd at the start and could be similar to when we signed Bent and he scored on his debut v Man. City.

Digne will start if signed in time which looks very likely now.

Fancy a 3-1 win.

I think it would be a brave ref that gives them a dodgy pen on Sat. I'd imagine the atmosphere will turn pretty hostile if he does.

No chance Coutinho starts imo. I don't know anything but he's been out for ages. Needs to be phased in.

After Monday I'd actually take being beaten by the footballers rather than the officials via VAR.

Having said that we are good enough to get the win but I have a nagging doubt they will play better than they have for a while. Villa Park will be a bear pit and add in the presence of the new player a moral and deserved victory is in the offing.

2-0

Has he been on the bench for Barca or totally frozen out? He will at least have 3-4 training sessions with us.

Don't think Digne has played for Everton since November and I'd expect him to start once the signing is confirmed.

This is the fucking game. For the first time in 26.5 years I'll walk back out of Villa Park having seen us beat these twats in the league. It's happening.

I think we're vastly superior in the midfield with our pressing, passing and mobility and without their best player, McTominey, I think they'll be even weaker.

Gerrard to have them fired up, the crowd to be fired up, early goals and we run them over like a fucking train.

Martinez

Cash
Konsa
Mings
Diane

Dougie
Ramsey
Sanson

Countinho
Buendia
Watkins

Smash these fucks into next week.

Coutinho with all 5.

An Irwin penalty for them. After a VAR check..

Is Ronaldo back for them? He'll find a way to score despite half-arsing it and eye-rolling at his shit teammates.

I'm surprised. You've been smirking about his arrival for the past week!
