Three with an option for us to add a fourth according to most reports when he signed it.

I wonder how many times we'd need to qualify for the CL before they stopped talking about the 'big 6'?  I don't think once would do it?  Maybe a few times.  In a row.

The way I saw it, the big two used to be Scouse and Manc Reds, then Wenger forced Arsenal into the mix before the Roubles forced Chelsea into the big four. Not sure when Citeh joined the ranks and whether it was before or after Spurs because they didn't get into the CL until at least 5 years after they became soaked in oil. At least all the other teams have won something during the period they joined in.

Back in the 80s and ITV hype the supposed big five were Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal Tottenham and Manchester United.

Rankled with Villa supporters then!

Well, we haven't really been fashionable since the 1890s.

Oh I don’t know. I read a match report of the 1948 cup tie in which Man Utd beat ‘the mighty Aston Villa’ 6-4. And after which some people said it was the greatest game since the 1897 cup final (Villa 3 Everton 2).

Up there with Bacuna being asked a question and answering it honestly while showing zero disrespect to us. Still, some will find a way to get outraged.

...or we react to what evidence we have to hand and change our minds when we see more.

The evidence of a Meaning Evil headline. Surely we should know by now what they are like.
It's a shame as John Townley is clearly a fan and in my opinion has significantly improved the Villa reporting standards there.  But clicks are their income, so sometimes I guess he has to appease his overlords.

I'm sure most of us have to do stuff at work that we aren't fully comfortable with, but he doesn't have to work there.

He wants to get a start in football journalism, it's a fantastic way to start for him.  There's usually a big difference between his pieces and the generic clickbait articles that come up on 'Villa Live' which he doesn't have any control over - like the John Fashanu pile of bullshit.  I'm sure he'll reflect on the Bailey headline and wish he'd written it in a different way.  In the meantime, I'm prepared to give him a break as he's written some decent pieces about us.
