What’s with us letting players go before we’ve replaced them? It’s like a fire sale

It seems the plan to kill competition from any outside team via PSR / FFP or whatever bollocks it is called means for most of us financial compliance outweighs real investment.

Not for a second do I blame our owners but the game ame and how it has been corrupted to favour the few

The Athletic stating that this is pretty much a done deal. Medical completed. Should be announced tomorrow.

Aston Villa’s Emi Buendia to join Bayer Leverkusen on loan

Jacob Tanswell

Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendia is set to join Bayer Leverkusen on loan.

The 28-year-old will move to the Bundesliga on a deal until the end of the season with the option to make the move permanent.

Buendia had his medical on Tuesday afternoon, with the move hoping to be announced before Villa and Leverkusen’s respective Champions League ties on Wednesday evening.

Leverkusen have been in the market for a replacement for Martin Terrier, who is out for the remainder of the season after tearing his Achilles.

The Athletic reported on Sunday that Buendia had agreed a new deal with Villa — which is yet to be signed — that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Buendia joined Villa from Norwich City in 2021 in a deal worth more than £30million (now $37.3m).

After recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, the Argentinian has made 20 appearances in all competitions but just three starts and none in the Premier League, however.

Buendia was, though, handed a surprise start for the Champions League defeat by Monaco last week.

“He has the option to leave but today we needed him,” manager Unai Emery said afterwards. “He played fantastic with his quality, his mentality and commitment to the squad.”

Leverkusen are second in the Bundesliga, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Following Sunday’s draw with West Ham Villa are eighth in the Premier League, four points off the top four.

Does that mean they can open a new thread about him on the Leverkusen forums?

I don't understand the loan unless it comes with an obligation to buy.

If it goes well then they'll buy him or we'll get back a player worth more than he would be today. If it doesn't go well then at least we've saved a bit on his wages? I agree though, I'd have preferred it if that was in there.

Or we could use him for the remainder of the season. He was our best player in Monaco (admittedly, bar is of a low nature).

Disappointed, loved his salmon leaps at the near post from corners and his through balls. We need dynamism in the squad and he's got it.

But how much is he going to play if we're realistic? He's behind Rogers, JJ, Bailey, Malen, Tielemans and McGinn for the roles behind the striker.

Aston Villa can confirm Emi Buendía has signed a contract extension and will immediately join Bayer Leverkusen on loan.

From Villa's bench to Bayer Leverkusen's bench.

Yeah, seems pretty pointless. At least he isn't helping Leeds, I suppose.
